Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

Yes it was on the 06z ~ it's gone now Sad

LumpySpacedPrincess · 29/12/2014 19:25

It might come back!

meglet · 29/12/2014 22:58

The rats always eat our fat balls before the birds can get them. I once saw one scamper up the forsythia, nick the fat ball, climb down with it and drag it across the patio into next doors garden Hmm.

I must top up the bird bath tomorrow though.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/12/2014 05:51

Yuck meglet!

-4 outside atm just started up my car hoping it'll defrost whilst I do my hair (sorry neighbours!)

SpottyTeacakes · 30/12/2014 06:25

Make that -5 and they haven't gritted the fucking roads. I'm so angry I nearly missed the turning to my parents because I was just skidding when I braked Angry

GloriaSmud · 30/12/2014 07:16

Lumpy ~ you're right, it could still come back. I suppose the one thing is that after the New Year, it still doesn't look especially warm (bit warmer than now, more 7C and 8C rather than the 2C and 3C daytime temperatures we've got at the moment) and looks like there will still be night time frosts, so there's still a chance.

Spotty ~ hope you're OK.
I'm amazed there weren't any metoffice warnings overnight in some areas for ice. We're down to -3.1C at the moment.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 30/12/2014 08:15

That's the spirit Gloria Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2014 08:40

Spotty - thats dreadful. I hope you are ok.
-6C here. We definitely live in a frost hollow!

-5 here and lots of white roads, thankfully main roads do appear to have been gritted, but still.... it was an opportunity to drive gently whilst admiring the scenery as I went to M&S to collect NY day pud.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 30/12/2014 11:09

Off to the big city today. Thirty mile drive. Car still covered in thick frost as it doesn't get any sun on the drive. Glad it's a 4x4, will give me a bit of confidence in the frost.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2014 11:22

Warnings may well be issued in a little bit for gales on thursday in Scotland due to the low pressure which has now formed once again in the models. Some heavy rain too.

Was actually -1 here in Jersey today when i went to do the horses at 8am :O But the fields looked soo pretty covered in frost

hoochymama1 · 30/12/2014 11:49

Thanks Kitten Thanks Thanks to everyone on this threadSmile
Still deep ice/snow here in N Derbyshire, soo difficult to drive esp on untreated roads. I can see the forecast, and in my head I know it can change, but its so deeply cold here I just find it difficult to believe this will warm up soonConfused
Its lovely though. Wish I could send some to those as wants itGrin

SpottyTeacakes · 30/12/2014 14:52

I'm ok but I'm unreasonably pissed off still Grin

Perihelion · 30/12/2014 20:27

Gales in Scotland, in January? Well okay, but can we please have some snow?

Gloria having seen your name on the weather threads for ages, I've just got it..... I've always had it in my head as Gloria Smud.....Blush.....I'm such a numpty Grin

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 30/12/2014 23:11

doh.

digerd · 31/12/2014 08:12

SE
-4 last night and clear sky still.

GloriaSmud · 31/12/2014 08:42

Aw

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2014 08:42

Rather than being just a Scottish affair tomorrow we have widespread gales with gusts between 40-50mph in many places in the UK. Some western and southern coastal areas may see 60mph on occasions.
Not especially bad anywhere but enough to make us reconsider our forest walk tomorrow in favour of somewhere where we won't get branches on our bonces!
I feel that my forecasting accuracy has slipped a little recently!

(Due to a lazy over reliance on GFS which got it wrong again!)

Been waiting for the sun to melt the ice/frost before taking dog for walk but hasn't happened as it clouded over but is still -1.5 Confused.

Cloud is thin and pale so don't expect snow.
Newspaper forecast up to 14 degrees tomorrowHmm

digerd · 31/12/2014 11:06

Back from dog walk and now + 1.3 with no biting wind Smile. Was quite pleasant but not as much as yesterday with the sun in the morning.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/12/2014 14:09

5.5 here. Still icy in patches though.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 31/12/2014 15:36

Probably not a great day for a day trip to Weymouth or Brighton then?

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 31/12/2014 15:36

Oh and another one having to confess to Gloria Smud. D'oh.
