Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

SE.
We had a bit of everything but snow today.
Very mild in the morning, a sudden downpour at lunch-time then the sky cleared, wind sprung up and it was distinctly chilly but sunny. Confused

Clear sky in the night forecast and I can see an enormous moon. Already 3 degrees outside.

OYBBK I keep popping by this thread to see if we have any chance of snow this year, we desperately want a couple of thorough snow days. If we hope hard enough will it work?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/01/2015 21:49

Some snow would be great :)

Some snow would be great

Oh, no it wouldn't!

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 07/01/2015 00:11

oh yes it would!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2015 06:58

The storms on Friday and Saturday look really fierce in Scotland, gusts perhaps to 100mph for parts of northern Scotland.

Crashing onto the thread to report it is so cold where I am (outside the UK) that school has been cancelled tomorrow! Two happy campers abandoned their homework and watched Friends reruns all evening.

SpottyTeacakes · 07/01/2015 08:07

Frosty outside but also raining Confused

leesmum · 07/01/2015 08:25

Dry(for now) in Manchester with a very pretty pink sky! Smile

I was told yesterday (by a farming friend who has lost a cow and after 3 days of searching has decided it was abducted by aliens), that we are in for a few 'rough days' over the next couple of weeks.
Hoping for much snow.

GloriaSmud · 07/01/2015 10:56

Violet ~ looking at the GFS (in my very amateur way), I think your farming friend could be right. Think there's going to be lots of weather in the next few weeks that goes between 'orrible storms (like forecast this weekend) and bouts of cold.

GloriaSmud · 07/01/2015 11:09

Not surprised about this one ~ the metoffice have given an Amber wind warning for northern bits of Scotland, tomorrow and Friday.

Newbiecrafter · 07/01/2015 12:25

London's capital fm reported 90mph gusts this morning. Is the storm expected to affect the south east this weekend? I thought it was only affecting the north so was a bit shocked to hear it on the school run this morning.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 07/01/2015 12:50

wind warnings have moved further north. we were a couple of counties away yesterday, now much further.

Perihelion · 07/01/2015 13:06

No wind warning for today, but already gusts of 49mph in Edinburgh. And christmas trees all over the roads.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2015 13:19

Newbie - the SE will see gusts to around 50mph, it is Scotland, particularly the north that will be affected most by this with gusts to 100mph+ and blizzards over high ground. Also some very high waves.
The worst of the first storm will be in the early hours of Friday, the second will be worst early saturday morning at current predictions.

Late next week looks a little interesting for potential of snow.

GloriaSmud · 07/01/2015 14:30

I saw the possible snow for next week and when I looked, thought Thursday has potential ~ 'tis off into into the future so could/will probably change though. This is one time when we could do without snow in the next few weeks as we have DD1's GCSE mock exams looming

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 07/01/2015 15:06

Nooo I have to go to guildford Friday afternoon next week for a hospital appointment the snow can wait until the Saturday!

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 07/01/2015 16:53

Oh heck. I am cross country journeying the weekend a week friday. I guess potentially i could get stuck and will need contingency plans then. Not the worst of situations but it could get a tad interesting and not helpful to normality.

worm77daisy · 07/01/2015 18:18

I am really sorry to those who have things they need to do late next week but I am excited at the smallest hope of snow.

Newbiecrafter · 07/01/2015 19:50

Thanks OYBBK.

Sounds worrying for those in the oath of the storm.

The last biggie was all set to hit and then veered off course. Is this one looking like it might do the same thing.

Really hoping for snow, but more than that hope everyone stays safe. Winds at that speed sound very scary.

GloriaSmud, hope your dd's gcse mock exams go well.

magimedi · 07/01/2015 20:14

Snow can just stay away & fuck off to the far side of fuck.

Spend a few winters (as I did) in NE Scotland & have to dig out your drive (sloping) or car every day before going to work (which meant getting up at least 15 mins earlier) & see how you love the reality of the white stuff>

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2015 20:24

Newbie, I think some parts of Scotland are going to be hit pretty hard I'm afraid.

Snow risk has once again receded next week.
