Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

SE.

It did rain a bit this morning and at 2pm it was stiflingy muggy still.
Dog walk at 5pm was definitely fresher despite no wind nor further rain.
Only 22 degrees and much more comfortable. Smile
Hope to manage more gardening over the weekend if the fresher air continues. Yesterday was impossible to do anything indoors or out.

Dh has just watched the latest weather forecast - I think he is now coming to realise that he will be cycling for roughly 6 hours in heavy wind and rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 18:19

He will probably be best off cycling in bathing shorts then it won't matter if he gets wet Grin

OP posts:
dexter73 · 08/08/2014 18:38

Rest assured that whatever he will be wearing it won't be red cycle shorts!Grin

YellowStripe · 08/08/2014 18:38

DD2 is sailing back (ferry) from Portugal on Saturday evening - she keeps texting me in a panic but there's not much I can do from here!

HauntedNoddyCar · 08/08/2014 18:46

Db reckons he's going to cycle. I am going to go armed with hot coffee for them.

The Surrey bits are quite leafy and I'm wondering if it will cause much tree damage. Still they're wearing helmets.

Thundery here in Nottinghamshire.

BornToFolk · 08/08/2014 19:28

Just started raining here in the SE. No winds and the rain's not too heavy but it looks like it's here for a while...

DS and I are off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow for a few days Sad I hope we don't get completely rained out! The BBC site says constant rain but Metcheck is still forecasting sunshine (well, after tomorrow anyway) Hmm OYBBK In general, which site would you say was more reliable? Or does no one still really know at this stage?

misstiredbuthappy · 08/08/2014 19:45

Its been a strange day here in north wales. It was boiling and sunny this morning but this afternoon the skys been dark in places and very windy. I was at my mums at 3 this afternoon and you could hear the wind howling.

Dull now but not windy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 21:14

id say the met office is the best website, you can put in your location and its pretty good.
im afraid I cant do forecasts tonight as my shitty internet is down again. seems it cant cope with a bit of rain, so Im on my very dodgy phone signal.

BornToFolk · 08/08/2014 21:29

Thanks! It also says rain of varying intensities over the next few days Sad

That's a bugger about your internet OYBBK. I hope it sorts itself out soon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 21:33

It has Grin virgin reckoned it wouldn't be til the am but I tried again out of desperation and here I am!

MistyMeena · 08/08/2014 21:55

We are camping on the Suffolk Coast from tomorrow. Are we going to get blown away/drowned in our beds? Typical, our one week away all year

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 08/08/2014 21:56

We are driving from Staffordshire to Cornwall in the early hours tonight/tomorrow morning (setting off at 2ish) so I hope it won't be too wild!

Lambstales · 08/08/2014 22:05

Peeing down in West Sussex ATM.

We had huge flash flooding problems two weeks ago (28/7). Are we in for another bashing on Sunday? Looks like it. We are just where it will hit the coast :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 22:22

Misty I would take extra pegs for sure. It doesn't take full gales to upset a tent. I also tend to leave as much as I can in the car during wild weather.

Lambstales, I don't know if it will be on that scale, thunderstorms can have very intense rain whereas this looks more very heavy but more prolonged iyswim. It still also depends on the path of the low.

I've followed several of your weather threads OYBBK and you always seem to know better than the experts!

I'm allegedly flying out of Gatwick on Sunday afternoon and am wondering what the chances are of needing my sleeping bag for an extended airport stay Confused
Any hope gratefully received...

Chottie · 08/08/2014 22:31

I'm off to the Cotswolds for a couple of days Tues/Wed/Thurs next week. Please could I have some weather news? Thanks

DoristheCamel · 08/08/2014 22:31

Another nervous camper watching anxiously. Am off to Norfolk. The bbc app tells me they were forecast rain all dsy today.
Anyone in Norfolk able to tell me what the weather has done today?
Wondering how waterlogged the ground will be before Bertha!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 22:31

Married I suppose there might be disruption but at the moment I don't think the forecast would warrant cancelled flights. Always difficult to tell with our airports, they can be even more unpredictable than the weather!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 22:33

Chottie, it looks pretty unsettled after the remnants of Bertha have gone through. Cooler than of late with plenty of showers but not solid rain.

Really depressed reading this as I am currently on holiday in the beautifully sunny Med but returning Sunday, and I don't want to come home even more now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 22:34

I'd stay there for another week or so nobusiness.
