Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

Really, really bad here. Nail, thunder, wind like nothing I've known. Mum scared the windows will come in.

Hail even, big hailstones.

mankyscotslass · 08/08/2014 15:10

Thunder and Lightning here now, and heavy rain - feels fresher already! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 15:43

Very impressive galaxy. How big would you say the hail is?

OP posts:
GalaxyInMyPants · 08/08/2014 15:54

Probably large marble size.

AugustaProdworthy · 08/08/2014 16:02

Thunder and lightening here, fairly quick but heavy downpours. Still pretty humid though. ( cambs)

Perihelion · 08/08/2014 16:08

Some thunder and lightning in Edinburgh Grin
Fairly typical August weather. Warm sun and heavy showers. It feels like we've had a very sunny summer and with the schools going back on Wednesday I'm hoping for more thundery showers Wink

goodasitgets · 08/08/2014 16:30

Massive hail here, thunder and lightning

goodasitgets · 08/08/2014 16:33

Video. Managed to catch the hail bouncing off the windowsill at the end

Wow what a downpour! I live in Oxfordshire and we had about 4 drops of rain earlier and that is it.

goodasitgets · 08/08/2014 16:46

I have a rather scared husky sat on top of me. Am MN with my arms around her neck Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 16:58

I hope there was no damage galaxy.

Goodasitgets, did I spy a couple of largeish hail chunks (technical term!) in your video?

I seem to be missing the exciting weather today too (but wasn't in line for it) good job though as I was out this afternoon with no shelter.

It's looking more likely, but not certain, that the low will follow a path across from the SW to the NE midlands, or thereabouts. Looks like the worst of the wind will be to the south of it and in general the worst of the rain to the north of it. As such, at the moment - and this will probably change- it looks like the worst of the rain will be through Wales and southern Scotland and the worst of the winds along the south coast.

Please don't make decisions based on that forecast, it's very tentative and as the met office warnings reflect much of the UK is at risk from severe weather. I hope that the warnings will be refined tomorrow lunchtime, but that's a hope, not a definite!

Hot and humid here in the midlands, no rain though. Torn between wanting a thunderstorm to clear it and wanting it to stay dry as the children are playing out as they have been driving round the bend today which they love doing.

HowLongTillBedtime · 08/08/2014 17:07

Oh bugger , I am driving from Sussex to the Peaks tomorrow and coming back on Sunday , this is maybe looking a bit foolish now .

What do you think ? I do really really want to go .

mummylin2495 · 08/08/2014 17:10

Rain just started in Dorset . Is the bad weather still expected here for sunday ?

goodasitgets · 08/08/2014 17:13

Yes very large and deafening when they were hitting the windows

goodasitgets · 08/08/2014 17:13

Oops should say I'm in the NW

FruVikingessOla · 08/08/2014 17:14

It's been heavily overcast and humid here in SW London. Odd spots of rain earlier, but nothing happening so far.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2014 17:15

Potentially mummylin if you see my post at 17:03

Howlong, I think if this storm happened in the winter it wouldn't be very remarkable so it depends on what your comfort levels are really. I'm not expecting widespread severe gales, though gales certainly could feature for some, I think the biggest issue is going to be heavy rain. I'd keep an eye on the met office warnings.

Thank you OYBBK ,Perspective is the key then .

Will see how it is looking in the morning then x

FlipFlopWaddle · 08/08/2014 17:22

No rain here in S Wales and tomorrow has changed from heavy rain all day to sunshine until the mid afternoon! Confused

It's going to be fabulous anyway because I've just gone out and bought party games stuff to do indoors and vests for the girls Wink

LadyCelia · 08/08/2014 17:33

Looks like it might be hard going for anyone doing or watching the Ride London in Surrey/London on Sunday then?

dexter73 · 08/08/2014 17:41

My dh is doing it. He is convinced that the weather forecasters have got it wrong and it will probably just be a bit showery Hmm.
