Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

Stupid models seem to be bringing the storm back into play on Sunday I'm afraid so it's clear that they and therefore I haven't got a clue.

Of course. We want to camp- therefore it shall be unsettled Grin

Let's see what tomorrow brings. I love a good storm if I'm not in a tent, so it's all good!

Hakluyt · 07/08/2014 07:54

And I've invited 25 people to a picnic...........

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2014 09:16

Oh dear Hakluyt!

There does seem to be general consensus in the models this morning that a little low will form from this, with I think the greatest probability that it will go through the channel bringing plenty of rain but the winds going into France. However the track is deeply uncertain and it may still go further north.

I'm just paranoid about it heading the start of a really shitty August. All highs breaking down and same old same old low after low coming in. Remember 2009? And 2012?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/08/2014 10:20

Ha! I just saw a tweet about this, and my first thought was to check if OYBK had posted on here :)

GloriaSmud · 07/08/2014 12:02

Metoffice have issued a weather warning already for Sunday and one for tomorrow as well for some bits of the UK.

nipersvest · 07/08/2014 12:06

we're headed to north norfolk this weekend camping, we've been before and had rain, but the forecast this time is just grim.

GloriaSmud · 07/08/2014 12:25

'Tis not looking like a great weekend, is it nipers ~ Sunday especially is looking awful. The SW coast looks like it's going to get really battered by the wind Sad

HesterShaw · 07/08/2014 12:27

Waaaah! Sunday looks Very Windy Indeed. It'll be like a return to the winter Hopefully the trees won't all fall down seeing that they'll be covered in leaves. Moored boats might have a few problems too.

FlipFlopWaddle · 07/08/2014 12:48

But it's NOT FAIR!

Sad
OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2014 12:49

The words in the warning are stern arent they! There certainly is the potential for disruption. Probability is still pretty low strong winds wise, but not low enough to discard you can see that on the met office warnings matrix. If I were camping on the south coast I would absolutely be paying attention at this point because it could be pretty stormy.

I have rebooked to arrive Monday, instead of tomorrow. DP didn't fancy the thought of the wind Sunday. Feeling a bit Sad as I had got all the camping gear out but it seemed too uncertain. Meh!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2014 13:01

It will probably be pretty wet on sunday and not so much fun, so its probably not a bad decision. Its a pain if your tent breaks!

Thank you again OYBBK for giving all this info out.
You do a really great job.

Just come here to see what you are predicting for Sunday. My dh is riding in a 100 mile bike race from London to Surrey on Sunday morning and is concerned about Big Bertha affecting the race.

Oh dear, we can't cancel the party now as food/drinks ordered. The BBC forecast at lunch time gave a hazy warning Thanks for your input OYBBK. Our local forecast is still showing sunshine and showers for Sunday but the temperature will be about 10 degrees less than today. We are in Hertfordshire about 25 miles north of London. I'm burying my head in the sand me thinks.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 07/08/2014 17:33

:( we will be staying in a caravan in Hayle, Cornwall from Saturday

Looks like I better pack the willies :(

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 07/08/2014 17:35

and the wellies too Grin

wonders why autocorrect changes wellies to willies

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/08/2014 17:47

You are welcome Maud.

Dave, always good to be prepared Grin

So, we still dont know what will happen on Sunday. It could range from some rain and a bit breezy esp for the south, to lots and lots of rain and strong winds with gales along the coast enough to damage trees in full leaf.

If I plumped for one scenario or another I'd be just making it up. Until the models settle I don't know which it will be I'm afraid.

Dexter my db is doing the ride too and I'm wondering if it will happen and if so whether I can face going

LineRunner · 07/08/2014 18:06

The hot builder is meant to fixing the bit of external house wall that is already hanging off thanks to the last storm, this weekend.

nipersvest · 07/08/2014 18:38

willies! Grin

i have a rule, we don't take wellies camping, if we are camping and we need wellies, we go home Wink

Hakluyt · 07/08/2014 18:50

It's all right everyone- the weather's going to be wonderful at the weekend. I've cancelled my picnic
