Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

The squall will be short lived but maybe a bit nastyish.

estofex are discussing the storm cluster around the Wash. That's the same cluster I was talking about.

That's pretty much where we are BBK. I think it's a bit of a staying in day here, but that's OK as we've just got back from a busy week away.

Showy · 10/08/2014 14:55

We're in Norfolk and all of a sudden it's got very, very dark and oppressive. Not raining currently but the sky is dark with an odd yellow tinge to it.

TheHumancatapult · 10/08/2014 14:57

we had heavy rain late this morning about 10 .30 then cleared around 12 to sun and now have more rain and thunder and flooding .am glad that live up a hill oh and stansted airport way

digerd · 10/08/2014 15:01

S.Herts

We did have sun after a 5 minute shower at 12.35 and we managed a quick dog walk at 2pm.
However, at 2. 35 a storm suddenly arrived- thunder, lightning and torrential downpour with dog frightened again .
A break atm. Sky in the SE looks light but dark in the NE.

The white fluffy clouds were hurtling across the blue sky at tremendous speed at 2pm from SW direction but I still could not imagine a storm brewing up that quickly. It has gone for now.

Showy · 10/08/2014 15:01

Thunder, lightning and rain just started (again) in W Norfolk. It's not too bad atm but we've had a lot of rain over the last few days and there's still some localised flooding and a lot of mud on the roads.

Showy · 10/08/2014 15:03

The speed of it moving over is quite impressive. It's no longer dark here. In a few minutes it's gone from v bleak to bright sky in the distance and moving closer quite quickly.

Sun shining here now too. Very weird weather today.

lovestea · 10/08/2014 15:14

The Met Office is no longer showing a thunderstorm for Oxford, but it has become very windy in the last hour, and grey clouds are scudding across the sky.
The lightning map is fascinating. Very intense moving into EA.

GloriaSmud · 10/08/2014 15:49

We've had bright sunshine for the last hour or so and the temperature's gone up to 18.8c It has been totally calm but it's become more overcast and the wind's got up in the last 15 minutes.

Adviceonseizures · 10/08/2014 15:51

I've seen reports of a possible tornado in hull on a Facebook weather page, anyone know if this has been confirmed?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/08/2014 15:53

Got out lovely and sunny for a while here in Suffolk. Do I take it this will not last?

Thelittlepapermouse · 10/08/2014 15:56

Calm and sunny again here in Norwich. Any news of what's heading our way?

oldsilver · 10/08/2014 16:02

I take it back about the wind, my plastic tardis greenhouse has gone over, I've righted and filled it with anything that might blow away. except I'd forgotten the front garden and found my big empty pots halfway down the road.

Glorious sunshine though.

Rooners · 10/08/2014 16:18

We just had a proper sudden downpour accompanied by strong wind, with bright sun at the same time, that lasted about 5 minutes. Our patio flooded briefly and then it was all gone.

Beautiful!

JillJ72 · 10/08/2014 16:23

Went for a little walk by a local lake. Felt the full force of the warm wind and dodged the downpours... Fabulous skies.

The Daily Mail has some excellent pictures here of how Bertha has affected things and the BBC has got a bit here about the travel disruption that's been caused.

Mammicar · 10/08/2014 16:36

Sunny and windy here now in south wales but no power for 35 mins and not expected back until 7pm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 17:25

Have to say given news reports and local conditions the met office were right with their warnings. The squall line was very bad timing for many people out and about. bbc reports

Crikey. I'm counting my stars we're so cut off in far SW cornwall. It's been sunny all day here. Hope everyone dries out quickly.

The British weather is crazy at times Confused.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 17:50

ok, I'm going to have a catch up now as to where things are at. I'll be back soon....

Had to rescue my greenhouse again. It's not safe out there - whilst I was doing, I was being bombarded by apples from NDN's tree Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 17:55

ok, the southern half of England, but not Wales is fairly clear now, though there are some beefy showers about.

A lot of rain through the northern half of England and much of scotland. Some thunderstorms around Yorkshire/Lincolnshire and some on the north west coast of Wales.

So for those in the south its mostly the gusty winds in places. I wouldnt choose to go for a nice walk in a wooded area if you had the squall line go through just yet as there will be weakened branches. Further north, still a lot of weather to come.
