Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

Poor campers Pseudo! Camping and lightning don't make comfy bed fellows.

We've had torrential rain (and one rumble of thunder just as it all started) for the last 1/2 hr but it's almost stopped here (Leicester)
What's fascinating me is the way the pressure is falling ~ it was 1006.7 at 12.21am and now it's 993.3

Thunder here now in North London

Northernlurker · 10/08/2014 09:59

Rain just started in York

Meglet · 10/08/2014 09:59

We're as far south as you can go. It's dead windy, but the rain has stopped and it's warm.

We'd get a tan on the beach, if we weren't still pottering about in pj's.

I can't upload photos from my phone (crashed it trying) but I swear I'm looking at a blue / cloudy sky and the sun is shimmering off the sea.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 10:12

Such a contrast to here meglet where it has gone incredibly dark. It's calm at the moment but it feels like a dramatic pause.

Ages, don't count your chickens......

Only 20 miles away from Gloria and have had the same weather (unsurprisingly). I've got to go to church soon and I'm hoping to dodge the heavy showers.

Feeling very sorry for DS and DH who are staying in the NW and are on their way to Anfield for DS's first ever footie match. He was hoping to go in his Liverpool strip but has had to go in jeans, boots and a waterproof - plus DH has (hopefully) taken a change of clothes to leave in the car. The only consolation is that their tickets are nowhere near the front - initially a source of great disappointment but maybe being so far back will give them some shelter Grin

Thanks OYBBK. Will raise a toast just as soon as it does!

FruVikingessOla · 10/08/2014 10:29

SW London. It's been very cloudy and dark all morning, rain veering between drizzly and heavy - just had a few rumbles of thunder.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 10:34

I'm keeping an eye on the temp now as I'm towards the back edge of the rain and I think the cold front will go through shortly. After that it should clear but with strong winds and the potential for sharp showers and thunderstorms will be there.

Bournemouth. Rain overnight and continuing now, slightly windy , rumbles of thunder earlier but nothing out of the ordinary here at the moment.

Hakluyt · 10/08/2014 10:36

It's going to be lovely from now on- decided against drive to Oxford.

Have huge amounts of food if anyone fancies a virtual picnic?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 10:39

That's such a shame Hakluyt, but what have you got on offer?

OP posts:
Hakluyt · 10/08/2014 10:42

Roasted vegetable salad with tahini dressing, lamb salad with pomegranate and dd's speciality chocolate trifle with a layer consisting of 5 melted Mars bars......

Meglet · 10/08/2014 10:45

You're all allowe to chuckle if we get caught in torrential rain on the beach later Wink.

I've finally gone outside for mobile reception a walk and it's really windy Shock.

GloriaSmud · 10/08/2014 10:46

Torrential rain again (same weather as Woollybacks!) and not surprisingly, our gutters are overflowing (cleaning them out ~ another job for the to do list.) Pressure now down to 992.9

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 10:47

Yum! I need to take picnic lessons from you!

Let me just have a look at when I think the bulk of the rain will clear from oxford....

I think it will be into the sunshine and showers phase by midday. Very windy mid afternoon though!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/08/2014 10:50

So far it does seem to be behaving as expected, other than the secondary low forming over Ireland. That is good :)

mummylin2495 · 10/08/2014 10:51

No rain here at all now, blue skies and sunshine !
