Weather warnings for saturday

from the met office

They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

thanks for the wall cloud info.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2014 19:44

Is it going to miss me oybbk? Sad

rubyflipper · 19/07/2014 19:45

We're in Banbury and - touch wood - we haven't had any storms yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 19:47

Currently edging into Northampton travelling NE. On the torro fb page there is a report of a couple of funnel clouds.

Lovely sunny evening here in West Wales, got a bit cloudy earlier for an hour or so, but i've had my washing out all day.. Makes a bloomin' change!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 19:51

Seen some very decent pics of a good size funnel cloud in Coalville taken this afternoon. If there are any damage reports from there I'd be very interested.

A rumble here, a rumble there, some very faint flashes in the distance. Light rain. Is it going to stay west of me in S Kent? Is it much?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 20:08

Juniper I think you might be directly in line. Is it Friday again?

And why can't I have a storm? One where I'm awake and don't have to jump out of bed. Thursdays was alright but I'd like better!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 19/07/2014 20:11

Just started in East Kent.

JuniperTisane · 19/07/2014 20:11

Must admit the first one last night about 9pm was good but the second one at 2.45am just got a bleary eyed 'fuck me' when the big crash woke me up. I'd rather it was nice and civilised tonight. A nice light show, a bit of rain and all done and dusted for bedtime.

wantacatplease · 19/07/2014 20:13

Anything for SW again tonight? The lightening/thunder kept me awake last night!

springlamb · 19/07/2014 20:14

Oh flip, here we go again. Juniper where are you? It's raining and rumbly-tumble on the ne corner of Romney Marshes. And I have to drive to Woodchurch to drop dd's friend home.
AND I had to drive out in last night's 9pm storm.
Still haven't quite recovered from last night, just want to take a cool shower and put my pjs on.
Silly old golden retriever is still asleep on the patio in the rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 20:15

With regards to the Oxfordshire storm:
If you have any damage reports or hail or funnel photos please can you send them to tORRO they will respect your confidentiality. Many thanks :) ditto reports from Coalville.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 20:16

Wantacat, I'm not entirely sure but nothing major I think. Maybe a few rumbles.

LeapingOverTheWall · 19/07/2014 20:16

that massive storm in France - is the lightning in East Kent part of it? And where is it likely to go next? Will it curl round to us at the other side of Kent, or move up the coast?

Am loving the lightning strike page OYBBK - we've been following the storms all afternoon Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 20:19

It's related to it. Large storms are made up of many cells and it seems that some cells developed to the west of the main storm clump. It looks like it will go straight over the eastern side of Kent, perhaps missing Sussex?

NigellasGuest · 19/07/2014 20:27

Ah thanks Kitten for the link to Lightning Detector - looks like the main action is in Paris

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 20:30

France has had some mega mega storms (luck so and sos)

JuniperTisane · 19/07/2014 20:30

Hi springlamb. Think woodchurch will be alright. Its passing directly over the Marsh South of me heading towards hythe. Im on the edge really

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 20:30

Well done Juniper, you can't beat local knowledge :)

OP posts:
LeapingOverTheWall · 19/07/2014 20:32

I'm learning so much from these threads - so, big storms are made up of several/lots of little storms which generally move together, but sometimes bits break off? And presumably separate cells can join together? Or does it not work like that?

slalomsuki · 19/07/2014 20:34

I can hear rumbling thunder in the distance but its sunny here. Must be from the Wales crop of storm strikes on the map it can hear.

JuniperTisane · 19/07/2014 20:34

Ooo that was a good one. Nice forks.

springlamb · 19/07/2014 20:36

Thanks.
at least I got out of the outdoor watering tonight. Last night I finished in at, like 8.33 and it started peeing down at 8.35.

Mckayz · 19/07/2014 20:37

That's a shame about the open uni OYBBK.

I have given up on any chance of thunder.
