from the met office

They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

The sun is fully ablaze here. I am glowing a lot. Been cutting flowers from the garden and I am all aglow.

Mckayz · 19/07/2014 16:12

We have lots of rain but no thunder.

SweetPeaPods · 19/07/2014 16:19

We have had lots of heavy rain here this afternoon now a lovely blue sky. Still too warm

digerd · 19/07/2014 16:24

SE.
No more rain since early this morning. Very muggy and really want the sun to go in and the breeze to increase for last dog walk as air rather oppressive.
29 atm and clouded over for now.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2014 16:26

I'm really hot. The dc's bedroom was 29 degrees last night. We're all struggling to sleep!

mankyscotslass · 19/07/2014 16:42

No more thunderstorms since about 4.30 this morning here in Manchester. It has rained fairly steadily all say though. Are we due to get any more?

ShineSmile · 19/07/2014 16:56

Kitten, thanks! Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 17:53

More crossing the channel and seems to be growing. Estimating Sussex in the firing line again!

The storm around oxford appears to have become supercellular and has a very classic hook echo signature. Take care around this particular storm.

dd had an outdoor party today. it finished just as a massive dark grey cloud came over. all back in the car and watching cloud to ground lightening and masses of water, and hail. (only pea sized thankfully)

I think it is the storm that is over north notts/yorks now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:03

That's splendid Susan :) here we are still sunny. I think our solar energy is providing fuel for the storms further away.

If you are near Wantage see above post please.

I think the thunder and rain is over with in North Wales now. Still muggy though.

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2014 18:06

OYBBK ~ we've been travelling back from Stoke-on-Trent way and I was watching that Midlands storm coming up from the SW on the livelightning site and could see the edge of it as we got nearer home. Got to Leicester and really thought we were in for it, the sky was really dark and churning ~ it looked like a couldron, all bubbling and swirling and the wind got up. Then a few flashes of lightning, some rumbles of thunder, a quick thundery shower and that was it. It seemed to bypass us and went off Loughborough/Nottingham way ~ I was not impressed at all!

It's been estimated there have been over 36,000 lightning strikes in the last 24 hours and there are some excellent lightning pictures here on the Guardian website.

mrstiggy · 19/07/2014 18:20

Had quite a exciting storm over sheffield way. Lots of lightening and constant rumbles of thunder. The kids were so excited, mostly because we'd tracked it on the lightening map all the way up England today, it's more addictive than the NORAD tracker at Christmas!

LadyCelia · 19/07/2014 18:25

So disappointed that we didn't get anything last night (N.Surrey) and today it's been perfect weather all day - too hot if anything, I felt sorry for the kids walking round the village fete in wellies! I want a good storm to clear the air now! (and save me getting dressed to go round & water my mum's plants Grin

JillJ72 · 19/07/2014 18:29

The Oxford storm clouds are approaching us, but not sure if it will clip us on a trailing edge....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:32

Will look at non Oxfordshire stuff in a bit :) Jill, if you can safely get any photos that would be great. Please be safe though. You are looking for large scale rotation as well as any smaller rotating lowerings. Hail size if any is useful. Thanks :)

Could hear but not see the Blandford storm this afternoon - sun out now and the humidity has dropped thank goodness! It has been spectacular the last 2 days (Central south coast)

lovestea · 19/07/2014 18:34

Spectacular storm over Oxford. I have never seen so much hail and rain fall in the UK. Lots of thunder. Rain even came down the chimney!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 18:35

That's the storm that's potentially naughty :)

We are getting a bit of thunder and drizzle in Leeds but nothing exciting Sad
