It has been mild and sunny today,so much so that I was out in the fields with no coat on until it got dark. The wind was picking up again by then and is howling again now.Miraculously we haven't had as much rain as some, and have had quite a few sunny, dry days.Thinking of all of you under flood warnings and with storm damaged properties,it does seem relentless at the minute.Sad

They are evacuating the people from homes on the sea front in Aberystwyth and Borth tonight
yes it is all drama here, i was on the seafront earlier and it appeared to have been re-modelled.....then driving home along the coast road i could feel the car moving in the wind...
daughter is getting all excited about not going to school on monday as her school is being used as a temporary shelter....i am quite sure it will all be over by then.

Any news on a forecast for cumbria overnight?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2014 22:36

Marne, in a very simplified way that is what has been happening throughout. Lows or the ingredients for lows being zoomed over from Canada.

They have evacuated a mobile home park in my town as the river has burst it's bank.

mummylin2495 · 03/01/2014 23:19

Forgot to say I am in Dorset

NoComet · 03/01/2014 23:48

Was watching a video of Aber seafront earlier, sending keep dry and safe vibes to both there and Borth (both childhood haunts) and glad just for once even my dad would think it too to bounce me out over the harbour bar in his dingy.

NoComet · 03/01/2014 23:48

Too rough

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 04/01/2014 01:35

OYBBK - did you manage to get any work done today? It was distracting weather that's for sure. We had the maintenance guys back today, replacing the fence panels again - they were replaced late last year as well.

We must have had a lot of rain near my home today, even though it didn't seem that bad at work (20 mins away). The main road was quite deep in water right across it - touch and go if we'd get through it without drowning the poor car :( It was dark/light/dark all day at work and got really really cold about 4pm, but then wasn't as cold by 7pm - and very mild by 11pm - though that could have been the wine Xmas Grin

I am going into London one day this weekend, I just need to decide which day to go - Sunday would be my preference, but I'll go tomorrow if it looks like Sunday will be pouring down here as I need to help my cousin out if it does.

Mainly - I need to know if/when to book the car in to have the snow tyres put on Xmas Grin

Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey border. Might as well just give full address and be done with it Xmas Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 04/01/2014 06:31

Chipping, wait until tomorrow to go to London.

digerd · 04/01/2014 07:13

Raining here outskirts of north london but no stormy winds atm.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/01/2014 07:22

I have water running down my wall Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2014 07:29

Oh spotty :( I'm sorry.

Chipping I have no idea which is better to get wet today and then mid afternoon have it beginning to try out or go tomorrow and have wet by lunchtime.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2014 07:31

We have to head out in a few mins. It is tipping down, bit Confused about the amount of standing water we will see.

11 people killed in the US because of a huge winter snow storm there :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2014 07:33

Sorry snow people if you are feeling ignored at the moment. Risk is primarily for higher ground but it will reach lower levels too. It's hard to take focus away from the awful flooding.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/01/2014 08:00

It's stopped now the rain has stopped for a bit.

On the plus side the wind blew our fence panel back up ShockConfused

Marne · 04/01/2014 10:41

We just attempted to go out, didn't get very far Sad, it was chucking it down and the roads were quite bad, we then came to a huge flood and the water was so muddy where it had run down from the fields, no way were we going to risk driving through it so we had to come home, now we are home the rain has stopped, not sure how long for. I thought we were going to have a break from it today before it hit tomorrow? is it still coming in tomorrow or has it come early?

GloriaSmud · 04/01/2014 11:45

Marne ~ I thought today was supposed to be the better day out of the weekend but where I am (Leicester), it doesn't look like this is going to clear 'til quite late today.

As for tomorrow, it's still coming in ~ think mid-late morning when it starts moving across the country.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2014 11:47

That was helpful of it Spotty!!

Marne, that idea changed thursday :( This is extra, it is still coming tomorrow.

Was surprised to find new trees down today. We've been out and about and the floods are quite startling in places. I fear that we may be looking after my friends guinea pig longer than we anticipated.

CointreauVersial · 04/01/2014 11:59

We are in Dun Laoghaire just waiting to board the ferry back to Holyhead. Clear blue sky, bright winter sunshine, and not a breath of wind; we had to defrost the car this morning. Hard to believe it's raining in the UK.

Marne · 04/01/2014 12:02

oh no Sad, if there is more coming in tomorrow we shall be stuck, the road out side our house is starting to look like a river, hopefully our house will be ok as we are raised slightly.

I hate not being to get anywhere, we managed to get to a garage to buy some bread and we don't really need to go out but hate the thought of not being able to get anywhere if I wanted too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2014 12:09

It must be horrible to feel trapped :(

Marne · 04/01/2014 12:17

I should feel lucky that our house isn't flooded, I'm one of those people who hates staying at home ( I like to pop out at least once a day) so I have cabin fever being stuck in. People are getting cars through but I'm not risking my car (cant afford to be without it). I guess its just one of the down sides of living in the middle of nowhere surrounded by river Smile. I usually go to the sales after Christmas but havnt been to any this year, I might have to shop online instead.

Hope everyone else is safe, the sea is still looking very angry so I feel for those along the coast that have been evacuated from their homes.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/01/2014 12:27

Dp is going to play football Hmm
