Going to be an eventful few days. Have been discussing it in te Christmas weather thread but I think they need highlighting. met office warnings

OP posts:
Topseyt · 03/01/2014 15:51

I am in Essex, near the Herts border. We have had thunder and lightning, hail, biting wind and driving rain with a smattering on sunshine in the last few hours.

My youngest daughter (11) has gone to a friend's birthday bash at an OUTDOOR ice rink too!!! Rather them than me. Brrrrrrrrr!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2014 15:54

The one still out at sea is calming down. Prob just as well really!

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2014 16:00

We've got rain warnings for three days Hmm (including today)

TwllBach · 03/01/2014 16:01

It's verrrry windy here in North Wales and raining off and on too.

Geckos48 · 03/01/2014 16:04

The temperature has really dropped in South Wiltshire.

Hoping that we don't see snow this year :(

Helenagrace · 03/01/2014 16:07

The wind has really picked up again in West Sussex. The sea was incredibly high earlier but the defences have worked, although Littlehampton has seen some flooding.

We had a very wild hailstorm earlier and I got soaked just walking from the boot to the drivers door of the car.

HandMini · 03/01/2014 16:16

Thanks for the updates Kitten. I always check here first as find the Met Office website so hard to navigate. I'm in London and looks like we will be having v heavy rain overnight.

Perihelion · 03/01/2014 16:41

Oooh snow warning! ......Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2014 17:32

Interesting met office press release which reckons its been the stormiest Dec since 1969.

scaevola · 03/01/2014 17:36

Whereas Australia is apparently having its hottest summer on record right now.

digerd · 03/01/2014 17:40

I managed 3 dog walks today and despite the ground being muddy /soggy it was not raining. It did feel much colder at 3pm than at 9am. SE

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2014 18:02

My thoughts are now turning to Monday morning, and the logistics of getting DD2 to school in a village which is currently cut off from the north by floods, particularly if there's more rain forecasted. Will require a massive detour..... Poor folk flooded out, though, I guess my problems pale into insignificance really. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2014 18:25

CV if your dd doesnt make it, she wont be the only one.

I wonder how some of the schools have been faring actually, I hope caretakers have been going in - if well maintained houses have been springing leaks.....

Cindy34 · 03/01/2014 18:31

Driving through Cumbria was fun this afternoon, very wet. Local radio was warning of snow tonight.

Hope there will not be much as have a trip south on M6 tomorrow.

CaptainCorellisVentolin · 03/01/2014 18:43

Bosham in West Sussex was flooded too - gotta love a good spring tide with these winds Angry. Dinghies ended up in the road and people were bailing out. Supposedly it will be worse tonight so we are all on stand by. Feeling very lucky out house is on a little "hump"! Emsworth in Hampshire, 10 minutes from us, was badly flooded as well. Meh, we are living in our wellies for now and will try not to worry about the fence panels too much....
Got home tonight and found half a tree on my drive which most definitely did not come from our garden Confused

CaptainCorellisVentolin · 03/01/2014 18:44

OUR house!

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2014 19:15

Well, I guess DD2 could swim to school. Grin

LostInWales · 03/01/2014 19:15

They are evacuating the people from homes on the sea front in Aberystwyth and Borth tonight. I hope the homes stay safe, the prom is already wrecked from this morning's high tide.

moominleigh94 · 03/01/2014 19:25

Sky News were reporting live from Barmouth. Think quite a lot of people haven't been home since being evacuated last night; shocked at some of the damage. Glad I'm not there but worried for my family and friends, and quite upsetting to see the damage to my town Sad

My brother won't be getting to school on Monday I don't think; someone's uploaded a video of the train he catches to school being left stranded on the tracks as the waves have washed away part of the track to the front and to the back... hope the people get off ok.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2014 19:50

Thunder....

youarewinning · 03/01/2014 20:05

We have had lightening here in South Hampshire. Keep getting passing high winds and rain that passes and then another wall of it.

MillyRules · 03/01/2014 20:18

Loudest thunder and lightening right above my cottage at 4 am . I'm by Snowdon in North Wales. Huge bang knocked the phone dead and of course no internet. Thank goodness for phones.

Marne · 03/01/2014 20:45

Apparently the weather in the US ( heavy snow storms ) could be heading our way next, may fall as rain ( yet more rain on top of what we have already had ). here

Helenagrace · 03/01/2014 21:25

Think youarewinning's thunder and lightening has just arrived in West Sussex

Meglet · 03/01/2014 21:30

North Hampshire here. I can't hear any wind at the moment. I'll just check outside........breezy, not raining.

Me and DD are getting over tired due to the wind waking us up endless times over the last month. (DS would sleep through armageddon).
