I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

digerd · 27/10/2013 11:49

Wind gustiness returned and gone againConfused

CatAmongThePigeons · 27/10/2013 11:50

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare anyone, but it's worth checking if it has an electric supply (manual/online).

It may have been that ours was faulty, but I think it's worth finding out if it works in a similar way. Apologies again, it really wwasn't an intention to scare just a case of my Dh was a tit, so you can be safe.

fairy1303 · 27/10/2013 12:04

youarewinning i'm in fareham too! rounded it up to portsmouth so i didnt out myself completely!

waikikamookau · 27/10/2013 12:14

gonna put some washing out - nice and blowy

MissMillament · 27/10/2013 12:21

I'm right on the South Coast too and the block of flats I live in is covered in scaffolding. The scaffolding boards are lifting up and shifting in the wind already and I am getting quite concerned. Have asked the building manager to phone the builders but I don't know if there is anything they can do.
We have torches and candles and have charged up our mobile phones. DH thinks I'm over reacting but I dont think the wind is anything near what it is going to get like later on tonight and it is pretty breezy now.
Aaagh.

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 12:21

I usually say Portsmouth too!

waiki I wouldn't. My washing line just snapped on its metal post and took off up the garden Grin

musicposy · 27/10/2013 12:28

Even I in Chichester sometimes say Portsmouth! People look at me like this Confused if I say Chichester! Even outside the area people know where you mean if you say "just east of Portsmouth".

Herisson · 27/10/2013 12:29

I am pleased you scared me, Cat! I have made sure mine turns off so am no longer terrified, anyway!

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 12:30

I've been known to say I live near Southampton when people are talking about S'ton and New Forest way. Your right it's because people actually can pinpoint those places on a map Grin

fairy1303 · 27/10/2013 12:39

my parents are from littlehampton music and i spent a lot of time saying 'they live near Brighton' - it's not really near Brighton but NOBODY knows any places nearby!

I did live in portsmouth for a few years though and consequently would rather poke myself in the eye than describe myself as living in Southampton!! ;)

fairy1303 · 27/10/2013 12:49

I'm just about to pick up DSD from Chichester - will give a big wave and DH will think I'm nuts

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 13:07

I lived in Portsmouth too for 11 years. And fairy note I said live near not in S'ton Wink I'll say I live in Portsmouth!

Don't NC, unless your actually called fairy I doubt I'll know who you are!

Titsalinabumsquash · 27/10/2013 13:18

I didn't know there were more Chichester folk on Mumsnet! I shall stand at the school gates when they go back scrutinising everyone Grin

(Also if anyone couldn't get down past the festival theatre yesterday morning, I apologise, that was our car in the accident, if you stopped to help, you have my eternal gratitude Thanks)

ziggiestardust · 27/10/2013 13:41

It's been raining for about an hour and a half now on the Lizard, I don't think the wind has picked up any more though.

missfliss · 27/10/2013 13:55

Very gusty here in shoreham by sea ( just outside of Brighton) have secured everything we can.

octopusinastringbag · 27/10/2013 14:20

digerd I haven't pruned it, I've left it partially attached to the tree and just tucked it over the fence. I could break it off the tree and cut it up and put it in the garden bin but they'd complain about that even more. Thankfully other NDN are lovely, they have a hedge which grows over into our garden, they used to come round and cut our side of it as well, at least until we got a lockable side gate as it kept blowing open in the wind.

Helenagrace · 27/10/2013 14:20

I'm just along the coast from you missfliss. Apparently Shoreham scored the highest gust of wind in the 1987 storm - 115mphShock

Pliudev · 27/10/2013 14:38

It's already pretty wet and blowy here in SW Cornwall and all the signs are that it's going to get much worse. Amazed at all the hardy families in the local supermarket stocking up for their half term visit. I think I'd have stayed home but then I'm a wimp.

LocalEditorWestSussex · 27/10/2013 14:43

West Sussex folk - Would you like to come here pretty please and give me an update? Smile

honeybeeridiculous · 27/10/2013 14:52

Just been watching DS play footy match in south hants, was very windy , the trees were bending right over and I nearly lost my contact lenses Grin has started to rain, home now, all cosy Grin

casacastille · 27/10/2013 14:56

It's relatively calm here in Brittany. We've had a gusty shower and the sky is grey but the wind is only moderate.

I'm praying it stays that way until DD's flight from England has landed... (poor thing, I think she's in for a bumpy ride, and she's not the greatest travellerSad)
