I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

The end of the world as we know it is obviously nigh.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 10:30

Herdy - they tend to do it at set times.

Vamp - you should be fine :)

Ok new thread for when this one fills up. Please usher people into it when the time comes.

met office warnings please post when they update and I'll try and check in on my phone if I have a signal.

Back late afternoon/early evening.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 10:31

fairy monday night is fine.
must go, dh getting impatient.

HissyFucker · 27/10/2013 10:35

There was a gust last night here (hampshire) that was terrifying!

I remember 1987, driving round downed trees to get to work, 10 days with no power, having to bath at friends houses.. Confused

funny enough, I'm back working in Wokingham, the same town I worked all those years ago. Wonder if I will need to drive round trees in the morning!

CatAmongThePigeons · 27/10/2013 10:37

If anyone has a gas cooker, make sure it's not electronically lit, our old one was and DH didn't think and lit it with a match to make tea. He went to work and when I came home a few hours later the house was filled with gas. Shock

It was able to open and fire up but it wouldn't close off as it needed the electric.

BuntyPenfold · 27/10/2013 10:41

Cat - crikey!

ChippingInNeedsANYFUCKER · 27/10/2013 10:47

MaryZ 'the end of the world as we know it is obviously nigh'

Yes, it clearly is, hence I have decided doing any housework today is utterly pointless - so, time for another Brew Grin

OYBBK - have a good time!! See you on the new thread later!

Have a nice day Kitten Halloween Smile

Over in the wilds of Norfolk and very sunny and cloud free.
Quite breezy and warm (in the Norfolk sense of the word, too many Hunstanton holidays have immunised me to wind.. other counties may describe it as "pretty blustery and cold")

ethelb · 27/10/2013 10:59

Just went outside to empty bucket of washing up water (from operation tidy up before the storm)over flower bed. My skirts were up around head within an instant Blush.

Its wild out there in SW London!

QuintsHollow · 27/10/2013 11:09

DH has finally decided that the storm is not just in the teacup, he is bringing his motorbike to safety.

Definitely windy in South West London now!

BMW6 · 27/10/2013 11:10

Getting v windy here in sunny Southampton.

Herisson · 27/10/2013 11:17

Oh my god. That has terrified me! How would I be able to tell.

V V windy in SW London. I've just taken our garden umbrella out of its base and laid it down on its side as it was wobbling rather alarmingly.

WildEyedAndScaryFucker · 27/10/2013 11:17

Very blowy here in SE Wales and has been over night. BBC weather forecast for today and tomorrow is no longer as bad as it was yesterday so I'm a little less worried about the huge tree right outside our house.

Met Office update only shows yellow rain warning for Wales and South West England for today.

kiriwAnyFuckerwa · 27/10/2013 11:19

Herisson - sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Why would the house be full of gas if he lit the gas using a match and turned it off again afterwards.

You've got me worried now!

Herisson · 27/10/2013 11:21

I don't know, it was CatAmongThePigeons whose DH did it. Maybe electricity is needed to turn the gas off? I am also worried!

kiriwAnyFuckerwa · 27/10/2013 11:21

Ignore me - just realised you were quoting cat and she's included that in her post. I don't think my range does that - actually I know it doesn't because I've used matches to light it in the past occasionally.

Amber warnings for Monday in quite a few areas

fairimum · 27/10/2013 11:29

What sort of time are we looking at this hitting Berkshire/Hampshire area? can't find much to suggest 'when' this will be? thanks :)

digerd · 27/10/2013 11:39

S.Herts
Wind abated now - not sure it knows what it wants to do.
I'm just roasting 2 poulets in my electric oven which I can eat cold.
How's cold pizza? I normally like only hot food but when needs must and all that.

ethelb · 27/10/2013 11:41

@fairmum info seems quite lacking on that tbh. It looks like between 1 and 3am. I suppose the forcasters are covering their backs by not being too specific!

simpson · 27/10/2013 11:44

Wind picking up now (W London) and I can hear bins rattling as they are blown about but it is still very sunny.

Raddy · 27/10/2013 11:45

We're in Herts, it's quite windy here but nothing major. We have lots of old fruit trees, I hope they'll be ok.

musicposy · 27/10/2013 11:45

fairy, was quite bright and breezy this morning but it's clouding over now. TravelinColour we don't quite have rain yet but we are a little north of Chichester and I suspect it's on its way. It's getting windier. and I can hear it with closed windows now.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I have to pick DD1 up at 2pm from her job in a well known fast food restaurant much maligned on here Wink on the outskirts of Chichester and from there I think we will head straight up to collect DD2 from Wimbledon so we can get her early if need be.

I'm contemplating whether to leave the dogs here as they will get scared if it gets very windy. But safer for us all (dogs too) without them to worry about, I think.

Have a good day, kitten!
