I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

I have to work...is severe wind a good enough excuse not to go in? Wink

GobbySadcaseFucker · 24/10/2013 08:15

Argh. Supposed to be driving to Wales on Monday.

digerd · 24/10/2013 08:56

What happened to our summer warmth? Last night went down to 4 degrees and is still only 5 despite the sun shiningConfused
Worse still, my heating will not go offAngry.
It did turn out sunny after 9am yesterday but was much cooler and fresher than the equatorial feel of the day before. Even more Confused at our recent weather.
At least it is a clear blue skySmile
Hmm wondering what to wear this morning for dog walk. Surely it will warm up by 10am?

SpookyTeacakes · 24/10/2013 09:09

Met office app says max of 15 today...

digerd · 24/10/2013 09:48

When I lived in Northern Germany, not far from the north sea, the westerlies were strong but never came in stormy gusts. The wind was at a constant speed. Wonder why we have these ferocious gusts that cause damage?

Makinglists · 24/10/2013 11:32

We'll our local paper is reporting that Monday's storm will be the worse in decades (Plymouth herald) not being known for its reliable reporting I will be keeping an eye on OYWWW posts! But am getting a bit concerned!!!

shallweshop · 24/10/2013 11:35

Oh bugger - off to Center Parcs Longleat on Monday.

HesterShaw · 24/10/2013 11:44

From what I've seen, I'm not sure if it will be the worst in decades. A bit draughty perhaps, but certainly not the 90mph we had the other winter. Interestingly this didn't even make it onto the news because we're not in the south east of England.

Could be wrong of course....

HesterShaw · 24/10/2013 11:51

Or maybe I'm wrong after all ShockShockShock

saintlyjimjams · 24/10/2013 12:25

Oh if the herald is getting excited I won't bother worrying - they're always wrong Grin

Makinglists · 24/10/2013 12:43

Yep if the herald are reporting a storm it will prob be fine and sunny. That said will be watching posts and met office with interest I love dramatic weather!

PeppermintScreams · 24/10/2013 12:45

We'll be staying by Pagham harbour then.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 24/10/2013 12:58

The express were also screaming about 90mph winds the other day which means nothing will happen Grin

going to look at the latest models now.

OP posts:
HesterShaw · 24/10/2013 12:59

Oh the Express. That well known meteorological source of wisdom, common sense and science.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 24/10/2013 13:05

oh dear.

amber warning already from the met office.

If you look at the matrix here you can see that there is pretty high uncertainty but if it does develop as it could the impact would be high.

Looking at 80mph+ gusts worse case scenario.

Which is enough to cause substantial disruption. Where I am all the leaves are still on the trees.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! My boat!

ouryve · 24/10/2013 13:15

Glad to be up North, for once. We just get wet, this time.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 24/10/2013 13:15

Models are still all over the place. I'm not surprised, its a really complex situation, with the storm not even developing until Sunday night. I don't think we will really know what is going to happen until Sunday!

What can we expect in Bournemouth Kitten ?

nomorecrumbs · 24/10/2013 13:27

Really digerd? I thought Autumn was late this year. Most trees are nearly all green still here in London.

saintlyjimjams · 24/10/2013 13:37

Okay I am slightly worried about my dodgy roof now...

Clutterbugsmum · 24/10/2013 13:54

What about Torquay. We are taking the children down there for a few days. Monday to Friday, we staying a holiday park.

saintlyjimjams · 24/10/2013 14:15

Torbay is included in the severe weather warning. But who knows, it might miss this bit of Devon out completely.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 24/10/2013 14:38

as jimjams says, we have no real idea at the moment where will be hit worst if it even develops. However, currently I'd say the balance of models probably hint at the south coast being worst hit.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 24/10/2013 14:40

if it goes south into France then flooding could be somewhat of an issue I think and we would start to see rain warnings for the event.
