I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

So, I'm practically on The Lizard - is it going to be bad for me later? It's windy at the moment but nothing out the ordinary!

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:25

Some of the media have gone so over the top that people have worried about it being like '87. That really was an exceptional storm!

Gwendoline :( very sensible but poor you.

I really hope that it won't be too nasty here in the CI as we tend to get power cuts at the faintest sniff of bad weather. Tempted to go and buy some thermos flasks as not sure I can cope with my 3 DCs, youngest of which is 13 weeks, without regular cups of tea! Not sure there's actually anywhere that sells flasks on a Sunday here though Confused

Guernsey police have been busy posting on their website / fbook page this morning, the forecast for here...

Further increasing Violent storm F11 for a time after midnight. Veering West by tomorrow Morning and decreasing Gale F8 to Severe Gale F9 with gusts to F11 at first. Outlook from 7am tomorrow until 7pm: Rain soon clearing to sharp showers with the risk of hail and thunder. Wind, Gale F8 to Severe Gale F9 with gusts to F11 at first soon decreasing to F6-7 by afternoon
It's going to be a noisy night.

Is there anywhere that sells camping gear waves?

OYWWW, DH is in Devon and wants to travel back to London this evening post 7pm. He thinks I'm being hysterical when I tell him that's a really, really bad idea and doesn't want to break his commitments there (just tea with his DSis at 5).

Is he right, and I overblowing this? Or, in your opinion, does he need to be heading back earlier...

casacastille · 27/10/2013 09:29

"Looks horrid for the CI and northern France."

Météo France has issued orange warnings (level 3 of 4) for gusts of up to 130km/h in the night round here.

Is there a good website for tracking its progress?

greenapples · 27/10/2013 09:30

Where are you Wavesandsmiles? We're up behind the airport, nice and high and already feeling quite exposed!Shock

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:33

Noway - is it about a 6 hour drive?? I'd aim for him to be getting back to London by about 1am/2am at the latest.

misshoohaa you should be fine. I live right by M27 in Hampshire and altho windy here it's not worse than yesterday when I did a 80 mile round trip on M27 and down to coast again.

DD had a lovely yellow tree but was planted much too near the fence .
I told her!
After a few years, her lovely neighbour asked her to get it trimmed but DD forgot and didn't have time.
She came to me upset that the neighbours had done it themselves, after a few years and the beautiful crown had been chopped in half.
I said "I told you so", kindly. They did ask you and you didn't do it, so they have the right to do it themselves. They disposed of the branches themselves.

They did not charge her.
I told her a tree should be planted in the middle of the lawn and not near the fence.

NoWayNoHow · 27/10/2013 09:34

No, it's only 3.5 hours, but its not the London weather I'm worried about - its the rain and wind moving from the West Country towards London. I'm worried that he's literally going to be driving with the storm.

ziggiestardust · 27/10/2013 09:35

Clear skies, sunny and blustery on the Lizard this morning; I believe we get it first.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 27/10/2013 09:35

Gusty in Cardiff now and it seeems to be gettting more so. We are in a bit of a wind tunnel here though.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:39

casacastille - at the moment that sounds about right unless the track goes more northerly again.

satellite for storm watching.

greenapples the airport area must be one of the worst places to be with this forecast! I'm in St. Peter Port so hoping it won't be too awful.... Trying to work out where I can get a flask or even a camping stove from on a Sunday and not having many ideas... I simply cannot get through night time baby wakings without several strong cups of tea Smile

waikikamookau · 27/10/2013 09:42

why are storms always at night?

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 09:43

I think its cos most storms happen autumn/winter when there is an awful lot of night!

The 2007 storm wasn't at night and caused quite a few deaths because people were out and about and on the roads.

Meglet · 27/10/2013 09:50

Envy at all of you on the Lizard. We've had our last 2 summer hols down in the village. Beautiful place.

musicposy · 27/10/2013 09:51

kitten I live in Chichester on the south coast and have to pick up DD from wimbledon in London at 6pm today. I can't not collect her as she stayed at a friends last night and has been dropped by them to a rehearsal in London today.
I have a tiny micra and the roads south of haslemere are nasty whichever way you go. I'm bricking it! Do I need to be worried? Should I go earlier and demand they let her go early (which won't go down well)?
Apologies for bad punctuation, on phone!

QuintsHollow · 27/10/2013 09:52
