I'm keeping a pretty close eye on developments for Monday. some of the models (in particular gfs) are showing a deep low developing over England, with the majority of the gfs runs taking the worst of the wind over the south.

Massive if. But if the weather were to pan out as those models are suggesting it would be a damaging storm, especially given the trees still being in leaf. I'd keep an eye on the met office early warnings page and if they start warning about it then it would be a good weekend to tidy the garden before you lose your stuff Wink

I'll update as things become clearer.

Well, I think I've prepared all I can really without taking special measures. Not going into work tomorrow as I've a pre arranged day off; and DH is working from home. He will move the BBQ, chimnea and pot plants into shed later.

Purchased cheese, wine, toilet roll, bread, matches and oodles of candles yesterday and stopped to top up the car as I was passing anyway and we were on a quarter tank.

Got a fry up for Monday night that can be done on the gas hob.

Washing all done and dry in case we can't use washer and dryer for a bit.

That's all you can do really, isn't it?

Musicposy I would monitor the weather and leave early if needed. I'm not too far from there and at the moment its blue skies and breezy but obviously you've got to get back as well.

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 10:04

Right off to Tesco - not going to do a weekly shop as usual but will ensure we have enough foodstuffs that don't need cooking etc - just in case!

Pretty sure we won't lose power as its fairly good here and remained during 87'. But we are in the storms path so best be prepared so I'm eating food and not my words Halloween Grin

IShallWearMidnight · 27/10/2013 10:04

DH is at the hospital for a sleep study tonight - I'm hoping they're well sound proofed Wink.

I'm planning a couple of loads of washing this evening so I can hang them out tomorrow morning - all the forecasts seem to be saying that it will be windy but sunny here tomorrow. So assuming the wendy house stays where it it, I'll be able to hook up the washing line as normal Grin. Dh off to the tip with random stuff which has been lying around outside for years a while, will move garden furniture etc later, plenty of wine in the house and we've found a torch with batteries. Kindle on charging, think I'm all set Smile

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 10:07

musicposy, if you are back this evening you should be fine :)

there probably will be one or two trees down today. Its blowy enough to take out weak trees.

Does a gas cooker work without electricity to ignite it? Never had one, always electricConfused.
My gas boiler is ignited by electricity. So totally bereft of all home comforts in a power cut, apart from my battery operated lamps for light.

Oh no!. Suddenly got gustier here, but sun still shining.

edam · 27/10/2013 10:09

You can light a gas cooker with a lighter, or a taper, or a match if you like living dangerously. Grin

fairy1303 · 27/10/2013 10:10

See, I'm in Portsmouth and it is not too windy here - yet. Dropped DC1 to my mums in west sussex last night though and they are right on the beach and it was VERY blustery - She is having a sleepover in a caravan in a coastal south town on Monday night - do you think I should let her go or am I being OTT?

HesterShaw · 27/10/2013 10:10

I agree Lizard-dwellers - it's very windy but nothing out of the ordinary so far. In fact it's a lovely day. DH and his chums have gone surfing.

Something quite noisy came through in the night though. I had to shut the window and everything.

Junebugjr · 27/10/2013 10:15

Swansea near the coast - windy and rainy here, very dark and gloomy too. We live right out in the open semi rural area, so it always seems windier where we are, than where my mother lives 3 miles away in a built up area.

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/10/2013 10:16

Interesting website here that shows the weather warnings for the whole of Europe.

Junebugjr · 27/10/2013 10:16

Amazing waves this morning too. DH and Dd1 have gone surfing too!

MaryZombie · 27/10/2013 10:16

Has it swung south and missed most of Ireland?

It's windy here alright, but the forecast has changed so it's looking calmer and dry tomorrow. Very strange.

NothingMoreScaryThanAHairy · 27/10/2013 10:16

Wind appears to be picking up a bit now in Plymouth.

Debate wheteher to go and see MIl inCornwall (nightmare to get too with loads of tree lined roads).

Hmmmm (she's off to America for the winter next week so feel we relly ought too...)

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 27/10/2013 10:16

We've been upped in Jersey to Storm Force 10

So hubby and i just inspected the garden and moved everything we can to one corner. Checked the fence panels and are now hoping for the best!

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 10:19

maryz - unsure at the moment. Possibly!

music, how is chichester at the moment? we are heading that way to pick up DD later this eve.

VirtuousVamp · 27/10/2013 10:22

Ok. The day had arrived!! What time about is the onslaught starting? Will we get back home in time this evening assuming our flight can land in Southampton about 9-10pm?

Been wet, but now sunny and very blustery here in continental Europe.

Trying to think what might need moving indoors from garden when/if we do get back in the dark this evening.

It is amazing our natural world isn't it?!Grin

Pan · 27/10/2013 10:23

Maybe now HQ will review their suspensions policy.....Smile

HerdyHerdwick · 27/10/2013 10:23

It's interesting that the Met Office doesn't seem to have done much updating this morning, perhaps indicative that they're still not sure.

It's blustery and wet here in rural Cheshire, not a pleasant day but certainly nothing remarkable for this time of year.

ChippingInNeedsANYFUCKER · 27/10/2013 10:25

Pan??????????

OhYouWickedWickedWitch · 27/10/2013 10:26

I'm heading out for a few hours. The warnings will update in about an hour. I'm going to start a new thread in case this one fills up while I'm gone. I'm going to change back to my usual name though. This one doesnt feel comfy!

HesterShaw · 27/10/2013 10:26

Verdict so far: "no worse than normal".

Next weekend looks pretty shitty too. I'm flying to America through it I hate flying even in calm weather. I always feel sick and get a numb bum within a couple of hours.

Pan · 27/10/2013 10:27

God isn't pleased, Chipping! (look at your username)

ChippingInNeedsANYFUCKER · 27/10/2013 10:27

Pan - penny just dropped. Sleep deprivation is a bastard!! Grin You might be right!!
