Weather looks potentially *really* interesting Tuesday.

Looks (at the moment) like we will have a really interesting and potentially pretty active cold front sweep the country on Tuesday. looks like it could be an 'ana cold front' where warm air ahead of the front is lifted above the cold front. This can create really good convection - pretty clouds - squally storms - and possibly tornadoes

Will update as we draw closer.

Just picked this up in active.

It is dark & shite here in hants and the 3yo has turned into a demon.Hmm

I do love a good squall, but not with the DC in tow. I wish I had a dog to walk.

notjustme · 29/11/2011 16:03

Windy here in Herts, buffetted about when walking the dogs at about 1pm, but no pretty clouds or rain here, just boring grey cloud cover at about 99% - maybe these spectacular weather will miss us?

thousandDenier · 29/11/2011 16:07

Astonishing skies over the W Country at the moment.

defined stripes of slate black cloud, then white cloud and then cornflower blue sky.

notjustme · 29/11/2011 16:09

It's going to be dark here soon, won't be able to see anything :(

OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 16:10

that sounds amazing thousandd!

I am as far west as you can get, pretty much. We've had a 65 mph gust this afternoon.

The roof's still on though. Phew.

laughalot · 29/11/2011 16:31

well at 3 20 it went pitch black and hammered it down to the point where I had to lay on the kitchen floor when we got in so my son could take my jeans off lol. It was mega windy aswell im in mansfield notts.

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/11/2011 16:32

It was gusty and squally here in the West Midlands this afternoon. Amazingly enough, it calmed down for the school run Shock. The sky at sunset was stunning - lots of really pretty clouds with bright blue sky striped with dark grey. It make me want to go and get the camera (which predictably enough, wasn't charged up Sad)

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 16:35

thousand this must be some alternative west country? Confused

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 16:36

Ariesgirl Are you in Sennen? I was wondering how it was down there. Hope all safe.

Pascha · 29/11/2011 16:38

Ooo its coming to get me in south Kent. Just got home half an hour ago and its howling outside. Waiting for the rain to come.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 29/11/2011 16:38

Devon back to still, blue skies Confused. Well, getting a bit dark but it was

Hulababy · 29/11/2011 16:43

Had an hour of very bad weather weather here in Sheffield earlier. A total downpour of heavy rain mixed with hail, almost horizontal due to the high winds. Very loud, sky was black. The Sky signal on TV was suffering as a result, crackling and flashing on and off.

It is still rainng now adn I can hear the wind swirling and blowing, but less than earlier.

Ariesgirl · 29/11/2011 16:44

I am near Sennen

Without wanting to sound wanky, we're quite used to it! I remember a 93 mph gust a couple of winters back which brought down the old wooden mast of a boat and took out three cars. That was the last time those owners left their cars on the quay, I'll bet.

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 16:51

Ariesgirl I remember something like that. I love a good storm when we are there - so long as we are safe inside! Not so great for the people outside though. Did the lifeboat have to go out?

Ariesgirl · 29/11/2011 16:56

Haven't heard yet!

Ariesgirl · 29/11/2011 16:59

(though wouldn't fancy this!)

I'm nearer Penlee to be honest.

Elliott · 29/11/2011 17:02

Newcastle again- squally rain here since about 3pm (but eased off for the school run :-) )
A bit wild and woolly but nothing out of the ordinary - does this mean we've missed out?!

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 17:03

I saw that earlier. The visibility is better than I expected though - you can practically see Cape Cornwall. I can think of plenty of days when you haven't even been able to see Gwenver!

I'm pining now. It'll be weeks before we are back there again.

pepperrabbit · 29/11/2011 17:09

School run wasn't too bad, but it absolutely walloped it down with rain at maybe 4.30. (NE Hampshire)
Just had to go rescue stuff in the garden as my folded rotary drier made a bid for freedom through my neighbours fence - oops!
Wind chimes were a bit over excited too...

OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 17:14

was rubbish here :(

Reporting in after an 'interesting' school run/hanging around for after school clubs. Picked up DD1 at 3.40, car temp guage said it was 11C. Sat in car, as it got darker and more squally, threw it down with rain, had a flash of lightning and rumble of thunder and by pick up time for DDs 2 and 3 (4.15pm), temp was down to 7C and it was noticeably colder. Don't want to look in the garden to see if there's anymore damage to the fence. Will tackle that one in the morning!

OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 17:21

Sounds like a plan Gloria!

Anyone from Darwen Lancashire about? would appreciate reports from there too please.

mankyscotslass · 29/11/2011 17:35

this is only a couple of miles from me. Shock

It did get very dark and windy about that time.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 29/11/2011 17:39

OYBBK did predict a tornado in Stockport. Heaton Moor isn't a million miles away.
