Weather looks potentially *really* interesting Tuesday.

Looks (at the moment) like we will have a really interesting and potentially pretty active cold front sweep the country on Tuesday. looks like it could be an 'ana cold front' where warm air ahead of the front is lifted above the cold front. This can create really good convection - pretty clouds - squally storms - and possibly tornadoes

Will update as we draw closer.

pirate Are you on the south coast? There are big gusts of wind in Exeter but nothing consistent. Sky skate grey. Bit of spitty rain.

piratecat · 29/11/2011 08:40

i thought that about the clouds!! the sky is all (or was) pinks and peaches. I'm an artist dontcha know!

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 08:40

Afternoons we are driving towards Dorset tonight - school concert (they pick their days. Last year it was one of the big snow days, we had to turn back at about Sidmouth, it just wasn't safe).

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 08:42

pirate :( I want the pretty pink sky :(

Wish I was down in Sennen. Bet the sky is great there. If you can see out the windows (in high wind weather you get the rain and the sea slamming against the windows, it's brilliant, like being at sea, but you get reduced visibility).

openerofjars · 29/11/2011 08:44

Sheffield, dunno, still under the duvet.Grin

Let's see: fast moving grey cloud with blue sky and actual sunshine peeping through! Looks a bit breezy.

lostinwales · 29/11/2011 09:23

What's 'easily lifts up emptied recycling bins and propels them down the street' on the Beaufort scale OYBBK? I felt like I was in a donkey kong game dodging them flying about on the way back from school! So that's a 'very windy' from west Wales then Grin

lostinwales · 29/11/2011 09:32

And now it's pouring, ugh.

virgiltracey · 29/11/2011 09:36

Nothing here (East Midlands). Very still and calm in fact - which is good since I am surounded by 150 foot trees and its not a great place to be in hgh winds!

AlmaMartyr · 29/11/2011 09:57

Raining in Okey now, horizontally :) Very windy out there, knocking over road work fences.

BiscuitNibbler · 29/11/2011 10:01

Just popping in to say thank you OYBBK. Smile

Read your post Sunday evening and it spurred me on to finally getting someone in to remove the trees that died last winter.

They took them down yesterday, and they were very brittle and wobbly. Looking at the gale blowing outside now I'm very glad I read your post, otherwise I think they would have come down today and caused some damage.

midnightexpress · 29/11/2011 10:03

Good morning from wild and windy Glasgow.

Not as windy as it was on Saturday night, and not as wet as it was earlier this mornong, so hopefully it'll pass through before long. I think the forecast said it would be drier this afternoon here.

GloriaSmud · 29/11/2011 10:32

Bit blustery here in Leicester. We're having a few bright spells at the moment but it was very dark around 9.30 time. I went out in the garden to put the cover back over our patio table, and our PIR light came on ~ it was that dark!

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 10:35

Much more blustery in Isca, the wind is howling a bit but still not really raining, and still intermittent. Picking up, though.

YULEingFanjo · 29/11/2011 10:39

I bought a sledge, sods law says it will not snow!

whysolate · 29/11/2011 10:46

I've been looking for you OYBBK!

There have been a few weather threads recently, people needed you!

She's here!

Grin
Lexilicious · 29/11/2011 10:48

Chilterns ridge-top correspondent checking in here!

Dark this morning from the thick cloud cover, way past sunrise. Very windy - helpfully, I have a very large wind sock right outside my office window which is holding at roughly a 45 degree angle. Half an hour ago we had some squally heavy rain. Two layers of clouds passing over quite fast, but blue sky visible in the breaks. The lower cloud level may actually just be the effect of air rising up the hillside.

Will be leaving work at 4 to go home on the M40 so may be too early to see the real weather pass through.

blackeyedsanta · 29/11/2011 11:00

w mids (again)

8.20 light fine rain, dark enough to stop the lights going off resulting in toddler tantrums, got slightly heavier, but still patchy (windscreen wipers on full, then intermittent, then full ) breezy mild

11.00am grey clouds, more uniform than this morening with darler lighter whispy bits blowing across the mass of grey. light rain. still breezy

mankyscotslass · 29/11/2011 11:05

Bright and a bit breezy here this morning OYBBK. Was very mild on the school run.

It's still bright now, but there are some clouds beginning to build from the west (ish). They aren't very dark, but they do seem to be a fairly solid mass.

Hoping for no wet play! (please)

I think maybe the west country will avoid the worst of it? Because things seem worse upcountry already?

blackeyedsanta · 29/11/2011 11:21

off to collect ds do more weather observations now.

RoyalWelsh · 29/11/2011 11:34

Oooh can I join in?

North Wales here and it has been so windy that I have been sending the dog out for toilet breaks on her own. Last night the wind also moved the freestanding shed about two foot sideways and we stuck ten sandbags and five paving slabs in there yesterday to try and stop it.

It's been raining since about nine o clock this morning and it is very nearly horizontal - it certainly buffeted my poor little car about Sad

Is it likely to get much worse? I'm terrified of the wind...

RoyalWelsh · 29/11/2011 11:44

Oh good grief it has just got a lot worse - I can barely see out of the office window the rain is so thick and the wind isn't even coming from jhust the one direction anymore - or at least that's what it looks like.

This is going to sound strange, but you know how there are 'white horses' on waves when it is windy? That is sort of what the rain is doing here at the moment - sidewayssidewayssideways hit the pavement turn into little white 'waves.'

lostinwales · 29/11/2011 12:02

Oh man, we've had a wild hour or two here, the sidepass door has been ripped off next door and two of our birds have died. Sad Don't know what's going on, one was a finch and they are pretty easy to scare but the other was DS2's budgie, must have been something pretty big to do that. DH on his way to check it's not carbon monoxide being blown back from the boiler but the alarms haven't gone off. Poor Snowflake, he was beautiful Sad

RoyalWelsh · 29/11/2011 12:11

Lostinwales that's horrible Sad
