Weather looks potentially *really* interesting Tuesday.

Looks (at the moment) like we will have a really interesting and potentially pretty active cold front sweep the country on Tuesday. looks like it could be an 'ana cold front' where warm air ahead of the front is lifted above the cold front. This can create really good convection - pretty clouds - squally storms - and possibly tornadoes

Will update as we draw closer.

The sea here has turned completely white, it is so churned up and my poor car felt like it was going to be blown off the road as I drove along the clifftop road this afternoon [nervous emoticon]

spicyorange · 29/11/2011 14:29

Im in north east and its really blowing a gale clouds have just started coming over dark.

OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 14:30

thank you for the warning for people GO - your area has had really very heavy rain (as you well know!!)

It is blowing a gale here so not looking forward to the drive over the bridge to get the kids from school.

openerofjars · 29/11/2011 14:32

Dark, raining and very gusty. Just off to take the hanging baskets down before they smash the indow (slight exaggeration, but the wind chimes definitely need looking after).

I was a Meadowhall at 11 and could see this wall of black cloud coming our way. It was pretty spectacular.

OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 14:39

It sounds very impressive as it passes over people. Although flash flooding is probably going to be less of an issue for many further east, the winds could still be very very strong and damaging in places. IOW looking to be rather interesting. If anyone feels like a rather dangerous walk then it should be rather spectacular along the hampshire and sussex coasts in an hour or two. (not that I'm recommending that of course.....)

I'm also interested in how this fares as it passes over the east of the pennines. I've no real feel for what will happen.

I need to go get the DC's, and I don't want to. It's horrible out there.

ObviouslyOblivious · 29/11/2011 14:40

Am out with dogs now, big gusts of wind, menacing sky.

GloriaSmud · 29/11/2011 14:41

Had to go out and cover the patio table again and it's really horrible out; the wind seems to go in really strong gusts. Off to do the school run in 20 minutes and then I've got to hang around for an hour, while DDs 2 and 3 are doing after school clubs. DD1 and I'll be sitting in the car wanting to be hoooooome!

Knownothingknowitall · 29/11/2011 14:50

I'm in Shanklin I.O.W.

Tis certainly very blustery ATM, wonder if I could convince the kids to come look at the sea with me?!

fishie · 29/11/2011 14:57

am loving flying the puppy like a kite. whole office now enlightened re graupel and I am a bit worried re collecting a couple of Beavers at 7pm. Should I anchor them to something?

openerofjars · 29/11/2011 14:59

Ooh, hailstones here!

blackeyedsanta · 29/11/2011 14:59

wish me luck....

Lexilicious · 29/11/2011 15:01

I've just remembered I have a potentially wind-susceptible plastic greenhouse thingy in my garden. Wondering about leaving work early to avoid dangerous wet roads and get back in time for nursery pick-up without rushing.

Am looking at the Traffic England (highways agency) website here, hope this works! which shows the difference in wind speeds across the country. I doubt it's the most reliable consolidated weather station view, but it's probably reasonably up to the minute.

Knownothingknowitall · 29/11/2011 15:09

just started raining here.

thetasigmamum · 29/11/2011 15:13

Sun's come out now. Just in time to set, really.

RoyalWelsh · 29/11/2011 15:26

The sun has been out here for a couple of hours now, and the wind died down a bit. It is definitely picking up again though, and it seems to be trying to spit a bit.

lostinwales · 29/11/2011 15:26

Blue skies here now! The clouds are scudding along at quite a pace but are patchy and there are hardly any gusts anymore. When I went out this morning I had to park in the street not the car park as the river had overflowed into it Shock I imagine it will be much worse tomorrow with all the rain we've had since.

Thank you so much for all the bird sympathy, I'm going to check some of the weather station reports out as if the temperatures fell quite low quickly that could have killed the birds, they can do very cold temps but only if they have a gradual time to adjust, sudden drops can be fatal. I've swaddled the survivors cages in fleece and given them lots of love, but as they are birds they don't appear very grateful. Off to do the school run and then give sympathy chocolate to the birds owners who will most probably demand to see the bodies as they are grubby little boys Smile

MotherPanda · 29/11/2011 15:26

Oxfordshire - very dark, chucking it down - really very very very heavy rain, i can hear it on my roof. feeling very snug on my sofa, Don't think it's safe for driving right now, so hope everyone is careful.

OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 15:30

I'm just on the edge of it now here in my spot of CS England. I'm a bit worried that it will be too dark to really appreciate it.

Latest met office radar is pretty. 'White' is torrential rain.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 15:40

Anyone near stockport? press are reporting damage from a possible tornado.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadkitten · 29/11/2011 15:41

(but be aware, its not a confirmed tornado and evidence needs to now be gathered to say whether it was or wasnt)

OP posts:
mankyscotslass · 29/11/2011 15:42

The rain has stopped here, and the temp has dropped.

Still grey and windy.

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 29/11/2011 15:47

Well, that was bracing. And a bit wet. Not cold, though.
