I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

see environment agency report

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

Well if fight and determination to get out of the place help, she will be out soon. Grin

Thanks OYBBK.

Al0uiseG · 15/05/2011 15:08

Oh your poor Mum "scotslass". :(

Still dry as a nuns chuff down here :o ominous grey clouds have been lurking for 48 hours but not a trickle has appeared.

mankyscotslass · 15/05/2011 16:00

Well I think we had more of your rain here today then. And it's settled now to steady rain.

And thanks for the good wishes for mum. Smile

Collegemum38 · 15/05/2011 16:05

Here in South Wales we had a deluge 2 nights last week. My fushias were swimming in their tubs.

First rain in while though.

FellatioNelson · 15/05/2011 16:20

I cannot believe how dry it's been (Essex, which I believe is the driest county in the UK anyway.) It spat for about 6 minutes today and then gave up, but it's definitely much much colder today. I'm loving the sunshine but my lawn looks in a sorry old state.

GloriaSmud · 15/05/2011 17:50

We've actually had rain today here in Leicester! Even though I know it was needed, I'm going to moan about it though! The recent forecasts I saw were for it to be sunny for most of today, with it clouding over with the possibility of rain around the middle of the afternoon. So out went the washing early this morning, only for it to to come back in when it clouded over and started raining from 10ish. I wasn't impressed!

Spotted this on the BBC about Severn Trent giving a warning about low reservoir levels.

GloriaSmud · 15/05/2011 17:53

Manky ~ just spotted your post about your Mum; hope she's up and about soon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/05/2011 19:30

Down in the south and south east I just cant see any rain this week really. Maybe a little something for EA mid week but nothing decent.
Cold here too. I have a cardi and a jacket on and am about to leap into the bath to warm up. I guess I'm not doing my bit Wink

Sorry to hear about your Mum Manky.
Determination is key with old people getting better so I'm so she'll be home soon. :)

I think we've had everyone's share of rain here in Manchester for the past week. It's been positively miserable! Constant drizzle mixed with torrential bouncing rain and hail.
I'm currently sat with a jumper on, wrapped in a blanket and the heating has been on all day. It's like February/March.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/05/2011 08:39

don't worry biblio, after tomorrow (probably drizzly and a bit miserable) it looks to be an improving picture for you through the week. In fact apart from perhaps western Scotland (and may be a bit further in) after tonight and some drizzle for some tomorrow it looks pretty dry right through the week and generally warming up.

Nearly out of water butt water again. Whilst I love it being dry the watering is taking forever atm!

mankyscotslass · 16/05/2011 10:20

You can have some of our water here! Rain again so far this morning, though not very heavy, just persistant.

It had better dry up for lunch time.

Rain at lunchtime = wet play = me watching 2 classes with 30 kids each on my own!

Al0uiseG · 16/05/2011 10:29

It's raining! Hooray, :o can't believe that it's making me happy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2011 08:57

We had about 5 drops today. Not enough to register anything in my rain gauge - I guess they missed!

Although its not looking so dry for many once we get into the weekend, particularly in the north and west (as usual!) Down here in the south still no sign of rain. Some of my large shrubs are showing some real sign of distress now. I was watching a news article last night and it is going beyond funny. At a farm (near Poole?) the wheat was half the height it should have been. Bit of a problem really.

I do wonder how it's going to affect the harvest I've lost lots of things in the garden due to 2 severe winters and now this drought is finishing everything off...except for the Palm trees obviously!

We have lots of rapeseed fields round here and they have reached full height and gone to seed already. It's very peculiar.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2011 17:37

Shock We have rain!!! Real rain and the perfect sort for gardens - fine but heavy. Amazing!!!!!! It came to make me look silly I'm sure!

OP posts:
mankyscotslass · 18/05/2011 17:40

We have sunshine. Grin

We did have persistant rain earlier, but it's lovely now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2011 17:43

Well that was nice. A whole 0.5mm Grin

OP posts:
mankyscotslass · 20/05/2011 21:49

How is your rain gauge doing now OYBBK?

We have had occasional heavy down pours over the last few days. Always in time for the school run. Grin

No wet play though, thank goodness.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/05/2011 07:20

Nothing else1 Perhaps some in the am tomorrow but other than that not a lot really shows even with the potential storm possib;y crossing the north of the UK on Monday (see warning thread)

Funny how rain times itself with school runs!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 19:41

weather is a funny old thing. The storm that has produced so much damage for many in Scotland and northern England has not even given us enough rain down here to register a trace. I've watched a squall line move south - by the time it got here almost nothing!
Nothing showing in the forecasts down here in the foreseeable future either. Incredible!

OP posts:
mankyscotslass · 23/05/2011 20:09

It is incredible!

It's a lovely evening here, if a little windy, but there is no sign of the rain and high winds from earlier.

But I do think the weather in the last year or so has been out of the ordinary.

The snow, the drought and the tornadoes in America. Plus a more active than normal Hurricane season predicted...

FellatioNelson · 23/05/2011 20:51

We've had an incredibly windy day here in Essex, and it finally rained for about an hour this evening, but only light drizzle. And now we've just had the most unbelievable setting sun sending rays out beneath moody black clouds, that has lit up the fields and the trees so they look luminous and bright green/gold. Really gorgeous.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/05/2011 22:25

just another 1.5mm over the past day. About 40mm in total since the end of Feb. No rain in sight down here. Another doom and gloom report on the news just now.
I've taken to watering with bath water (which made my garden smell all lovely and soapy the other day) One of my evergreens is now covered in museli following a watering from the washing up bowl Hmm

So hows it going from others in the parched south and east?

OP posts:
FellatioNelson · 31/05/2011 22:29

We've had a couple of short sharp showers over the last few days, but the sun just comes straight back out again! My lawn is in a horrendous state.

My DH has just been in Lancs Sat, Sun, Mon and he said it rained most of the time.

FellatioNelson · 31/05/2011 22:30

I'm on the Essex/Suffolk border BTW.
