I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

see environment agency report

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

The rain we have had in Hampshire over the last week or two has only filled my water butt up a couple of times. And each time it was a pretty slow trickle of water.

Veg patch is surviving but I don't think it will be a bumper crop. Sunflowers are, frankly, buggered - I think they must be a very thirsty plant Sad. Might get them to 3ft if I'm lucky.

I keep going out there with the washing up bowl too Grin. I had toyed with the idea of using the dc's bath water but would have to do it by bucket as the water-saving gadgets won't work on my interior pipes.

Food (british fruit veg and wheat) prices are going to go through the roof at this rate aren't they? Cold winter and dry spring.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2011 09:24

You are right Meglet - it is potentially disastrous this year for a lot of British farming.

This north/south split is really sharp this year FN isnt it! A lot of people must be wondering why on earth we are a bit concerned down here. It is very nice to not have to think about raincoats and stuff.

Looking lovely and warm for the rest of the week Grin

Will it rain in the South and east next week.....? Some models suggest it may. We shall see.

Sweltering here in the Midlands. Car temp guage is saying it's 25/26C Shock

mankyscotslass · 03/06/2011 16:32

I just checked out temp gauge, it is 31 degrees! Shock

I think I will have to move it as in the afternoon it's in direct sunlight!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/06/2011 20:15

i think you do need to mive it Grin if you have a thermometer in the sun pretty much what your measuring is the thermometers capacity to store energy!

Down here I had a max of 24.1C but I do see that up in the Midlands/North West it did reach 25.6C :) Not bad! Next week will be a bit of a shock.

mankyscotslass · 03/06/2011 21:08

I'll move it tomorrow, I've been trying to figure out where to put it, in the winter it was on the play house, but the kids use that now so no go!

It was VERY warm here today though! DD's Honesty plant is looking a bit sad!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/06/2011 22:41

It took me ages to sort out my thermometer!
its a bit of a shame the warmth won't last - this up and down business makes it very hard to get used to.

I had some hopes for this week for some real rain for the south. Looks like we will get some tomorrow but overall the models aren't in agreement and it is possible that we will have another largely dry week.

Manky Grin
DH and my brother have gone to this place today. They usually fly some of the very early planes late afternoon/early evening but it's a bit gusty and I'm not sure the wind will have died down enough. Might be an early hometime for them both!

mankyscotslass · 05/06/2011 23:35

I got a lot little wet.

But it was worth it!

FellatioNelson · 06/06/2011 07:42

Yay! Properly raining this morning. I might go and stand in it.

mankyscotslass · 06/06/2011 08:34

Clear sunny morning here!

bigTillyMint · 06/06/2011 08:36

It has been raining in London since lunchtime yesterday. Good for the garden, at least Smile

Al0uiseG · 06/06/2011 08:38

Proper rain in north essex for the first time since March!

Summer is declared closed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2011 09:03

21mm since the rain started yesterday. Thats proper rain!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2011 09:04

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 06/06/2011 10:09

No rain here (Leicester) Grin
Could you all splash some over my way?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2011 14:18

I can spare you 3mm if that helps any?

So in one day we had 21mm, prior to that we only had 32mm in 3 months!
I can practically hear the plants growing Grin
