I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

see environment agency report

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

models seems to be showing rain moving in at the end of the week. Going to be a bit of a shock if it happens!

"You make me very hot, sweaty and icky. You make me feel sick. I can't take the children out as I am very grumpy sitting in the sun.
I hate it in my eyes and can't walk anywhere as I start to sweat like a pig on a spit."

Wear cooler clothes, get some sunglasses and sit in the shade. It is very sunny, but not hot where we are - about 16 degrees. There is a cold wind so it isn't sitting out weather anyway.

We had a thunderstorm and about 3 hours of very heavy rain on Easter Saturday. Parts of Sheffield were flooded, but other than that nothing for two months. According to our local weather forecaster we had a very wet February so the reservoirs aren't as bad as they might be, but I hope we don't get a repeat of 1995 where we had tankers of water being brought down to Yorkshire from Kielder. I also remember 1976 very well. It was hot, hot, hot.

We have not had rain for a month which in April is weird.

I have been watering the garden every two days. Some of the trees and shrubs took a real battering in the intense cold winter and I am on the edge of losing a few. The fig tree died and I dont want to lose any more. Vegetables are struggling to germinate even with heavy watering.

The lawn is light brown already and haven't mown for a month. The watering I am doing is bringing forth all the blossom and flowers but they dont last very long.

Another sunny day here, last day of the school holidays, so off to a park for a picnic.

Mil is fretting over her garden, it's her pride and joy, but the rainbut is empty and a loth of the plants are struggling.

Excuse the typos, cat walked in front of screen and over keyboard. Blush

Meglet · 02/05/2011 09:17

I have been really good and topped up the birds drinking water so they don't get thirsty Smile.

Ariesgirl · 02/05/2011 09:40

Last night. We had the most outrageous thunderstorm with torrential rain. The electric went off and everything.

But before that, nothing much for weeks apart from a shower on Good Friday. We're in West Cornwall.

Mirage · 02/05/2011 10:13

I'm in Leics to [waves at Colditz and lubeybooby].We have had 3 light showers in the past 2 months, only just enough to dampen the ground. We are relying on guineapig lawnmowers too.It was a very dry winter here, the local ponds, which never dry up have been very low indeed,as is the brook.I want wet nights and sunny hot days please.

misshospitalcorners · 02/05/2011 10:40

Oh thank goodness, I thought it was just me wanting rain.

We don't have a garden tap so I'm outside every evening or every other evening, watering the scrubs and flowers - with a watering can!
My poor poor plants; tap water just isn't as good as rain.

Please, pretty please?

LakeFlyPie · 02/05/2011 11:05

"tis certainly unusually dry and has been for last 7-8 weeks (here in Manchester) but don't worry, we're going for a weeks holiday in UK on friday so no doubt it'll rain loads as per law of British holidays Smile

LadyBeagleEyes · 02/05/2011 11:32

I live underneath that particular mountain Manky (outing myself). Very very scary but pretty awesome at the same time.
Fire looks under control but still very dry and windy so not relaxing quite yet. The grass/heath looks like a desolate wasteland but I'll never forget Saturday night with the hill on fire.

zisforzebra · 02/05/2011 11:33

We had a thunderstorm and about 20 minutes of fairly heavy rain on friday afternoon and probably a 10 minute shower the week before. The grass is looking quite brown and dry. I'd like mirage's suggestion of wet nights and hot, sunny days Grin

zisforzebra · 02/05/2011 11:34

It's really, really windy here today though so maybe that will blow some rain in later although the skies are clear blue at the moment.

LadyBeagleEyes · 02/05/2011 11:38

Sorry, not very good at links, can someone convert it for me?

Chil1234 · 02/05/2011 12:45

Hertfordshire annexe of the Sahara here. I planted up a 50ft border (at vast expense) in early March thinking it would be good timing, nice and damp through March/April, no need to stand there with a hosepipe I'm pretty sure it has rained exactly once in the 8 weeks since. Was very hopeful for the forecast 'thundery showers' on Friday but they must have missed me. Forecast for next few days is sunny, sunny, sunny... Normally, I wouldn't complain.

bilblio · 02/05/2011 12:54

colditz I grew up mainly referring to the sun as the "current bun" for fear it would disappear in a huff :o

Those fires look bad. I'm off up to Chorley today so I'll look out for it. We live across the road from a moor. It was on fire in 2003 for weeks. We were lucky that most of the time the wind was blowing the smoke away from homes, but some days it was terrible on the hottest day of the year we had to keep all the windows shut and stay inside.

The reservoirs that supply Manchester are very low already... I'm going to go and carefully water my veggies with the hosepipe while I still can.

starchilli · 02/05/2011 12:55

I did that course as well, several years ago though - good luck with it.

We've not had any rain worth speaking off for 6 weeks now at least. We had a tiny splash which didn't even cover the bottom of the bird bath, my son's rain gauge in the garden has not reached 1mm.

nometime · 02/05/2011 13:00

Here in Kent it's very dry. Last rain was the most amazing 20 minute downpour on Easter Saturday. We had everything, thunder, lightening and hail, but that's been it and I can't remember we had a proper bout of rain.

I love it and it's wonderful not to have to think about drying the washing (we've ditched the tumble dryer) but the garden is looking a bit bedraggled and the veg could do with some rain.

A light drizzle after dark would be great.

LadyBeagle ~ here's your link

LadyBeagleEyes · 02/05/2011 13:25

Thanks Gloria Smile

GloriaSmud · 02/05/2011 13:30

Another dry day here in Leicester

GloriaSmud · 02/05/2011 13:34

They're amazing pictures, LadyBeagle. Fire's a little too close to houses though in some!

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 02/05/2011 13:36
