And the drought goes on.

I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

see environment agency report

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

2007 was a wet summer i remember. We went on holiday to Shropshire at the end of June and it was dry about twice.

midnightexpress · 03/05/2011 09:30

Every blimmin summer is a wet summer here (Glasgow), so hey, I'm enjoying the sunshine while it lasts Grin

HarrietJones · 03/05/2011 10:08

We had a warm spring & soaking wet summer last year

mankyscotslass · 03/05/2011 10:09

Cracking the flags here again today, windy and was chilly on the way to school, but gorgeous now!

RustyBear · 03/05/2011 10:57

Re the Bracknell fire - some of the schools round Crowthorne are shut today and several roads are still closed - a couple of people at work live round the fire area and say it's very smokey still, but I don't think it's as bad as it was at the weekend. It has broken out again a couple of times after it was thought to be out though, so the fire crews are still there, making sure.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/05/2011 11:36

todays fire reports.
The models today are suggesting many of us getting some rain this weekend, more in the west than the east. Could be pretty thundery in nature with some heavy downpours. I don't think though that it is a sign of a general change in the state of affairs - more of a brief reprieve - that high pressure to our east controlling our weather is exceptionally persistent and I think that dry weather will dominate again early next week.

(remember if you are peeking in and don't know me - I am strictly an amateur forecaster and do get things wrong! plus the models may all change anyway and make me look silly.)

Our new trampoline arrived today & we will set it up this eve while DD is at ballet, ......so it will definitely rain in Wiltshire tomorrow Grin

gingercat12 · 03/05/2011 12:27

Am also in the North East, and we had no rain. We are having to water every evening now, and it is only May. We had to dig some plants out, as they have not survived the heavy frosts, and it was quite hard work.

It was the same last summer as well. We were watching all the flooding on the news while diligently watering the garden.

rowingboat · 03/05/2011 12:28

I think we had a reasonable rain shower about 2 weeks ago - I'm on the East coast of Scotland.
I seem to remember April/May being warm and dry for ages now and then as soon as we got halfway through June it started raining and didn't stop until October.
I'm treating this weather as if it is Summer because I'm being gloomy and expecting a soaking this Summer as usual. [puts on wellies and stands by]

belgina · 03/05/2011 12:45

Kent's definitely been dry since March. I remember starting to water the plants after I noticed some looking pretty sad and then realised it was because it hadn't rained in 3 weeks. It never occurred to me to water plants in March Hmm Anyhow, hasn't rained since. Still watering plants, especially veg and baby apple tree.

albania · 03/05/2011 15:26

It's been very windy here (Manchester) for about 4 days, it was howling yday night.
I'm watering the garden too - DH can't remember where he placed the watering can so I'm using a tropicana bottle. The neighbours are very Hmm
Thanks for the weather reports, OYBBK :) they're much appreciated

Zippylovesgeorge · 03/05/2011 16:19

I'm in Suffolk and we've not had any rain for a month now - even with us being one of the driest areas in the country this is unusual. Grass is now looking parched. Beginning to wonder if its worth doing tubs/hanging baskets this year as I will have to water every day and the cost is expensive.

HarrietJones · 03/05/2011 16:41

We are supposed to get rain on Thursday

Insomnia11 · 03/05/2011 16:52

No point worrying is there? It's not like we can make it rain. Does rain dance.

I thought this thread might be a euphemism. In which case the answer is er... "recently". :)

threestars · 03/05/2011 17:00

This thread has just reminded me that mum not only wanted me to feed her cat while she's on holiday, which I've been doing for the past week, but to water the plants too. Errmmm, whoops.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/05/2011 17:10

madwomanintheattic · 04/05/2011 05:32

it's still snowing here. la nina and all that, we must be getting it for you - the entire town is sandbagged waiting for the big thaw and the reservoirs are about to burst their banks. Grin

giraffesCantDanceWiOotBuckie · 04/05/2011 07:06

Supposed to be heavy rain here tomorrow. After days and days of sunshine. Was a bit cloudier yesterday and chilly in morning.

Am going to be confused if I suddenly have to stop carrying sun cream around!

whomovedmychocolate · 04/05/2011 07:50

Tis definitely going to rain here today, it smells like rain and everything.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/05/2011 09:27

It does look like most of us will see rain this weekend . Could potentially be quite thundery and heavy and the met office is going for hail for Yorks and parts of eastern Scotland. Very welcome, except if I was being picky it would be quite nice for many people for it not to be at the weekend but maybe Monday.....

We had rain Good Friday.

thederkinsdame · 04/05/2011 10:10

Well, it's glorious here, and can't remember the last spot of rain, but our house is always cool, so I am sitting here in a jumper!

WentworthMillerMad · 04/05/2011 11:56

can't remember the last rain we had in Glasgow - normally one of the wettest cities in th UK. Garden bone dry - rain forecast for tomorrow pm. Never thought I would say much needed!
