And the drought goes on.

I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

see environment agency report

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

It was a big tease :( Dry as a dry thing.

GloriaSmud · 05/05/2011 19:41

Nope, nothing here either! It seems to have brightened up a bit.

Think it is still raining a bit. I can see drips of rain outside on a chair. It is most odd Grin

NotaMopsa · 05/05/2011 19:55

a two minute drizzle north leeds

HarrietJones · 05/05/2011 20:08

Thundery feel here(Cumbria) rain lasted about 15 minutes very lightly

albania · 05/05/2011 20:28

Finally stopped raining- Manchester

albania · 05/05/2011 20:36

Might have spoken too soon!

Meglet · 05/05/2011 20:50

Rain forecast for north Hampshire on Saturday, but it's light rain (and was originally heavy rain a day or so ago). Could easily end up with a drizzle or nothing at all at this rate.

No slugs Grin. But a very dusty looking veg patch. Sunflowers are not looking happy.

Keep taking bowls of old washing up water down the garden to water the plants.

GloriaSmud · 05/05/2011 21:09

Meglet ~ I wish the sunflowers seeds I planted a few weeks ago would come up. The only sunflower plants I've got have self~seeded from the bird feed mix I've given them! I don't know whether to move them or leave them, and risk having 6 foot sunflowers right at the front of my flower beds!

chillistars · 05/05/2011 21:22

Still no rain in middle England, it looked likely earlier as there were huge thunder clouds and it got very hot and humid. There were a few drops as if a small tap needed a new washer and that was it, all over within 2 minutes!

Forgot to water the garden tonight, will have to get up early to do it.

Long may the sunshine last!

bilblio · 05/05/2011 21:51

Still raining in this bit of Manchester. It smells lovely!
No thunder yet though and my headache is easing so we might not get any after all.

NotaMopsa · 05/05/2011 21:54

why does it smell so lovely?

bilblio · 05/05/2011 22:28

Because summer rain usually does smell lovely.... or am I just odd?

Mirage · 05/05/2011 22:31

I love that smell.Aveda used to do a shampoo and conditioner that smelt of hot earth with rain on it,but discontinued it.

We had about 6 spots of rain here today.I just know that it will thunder and lightening on Saturday now-the dds are going to be riding a new pony to see if it is suitable,so I can guarantee storms and torrential rain!

NotaMopsa · 05/05/2011 22:52

no i worded that badly! It smells so lovely - i wonder why? Smile

bilblio · 05/05/2011 22:59

Ahh. I don't know. Maybe all the rain mixing with the pollen and making the plants smell stronger...

Actually now I think about it this may be right, because my hayfever tends to get really bad when the rain starts, and I've always put it done to the rain washing all the pollen back down suddenly.

HarrietJones · 06/05/2011 08:36

raining here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 12:33

I think we should get our turn for some rain tonight. Could be quite a noisy old night for some - quite possible that storms will develop and if not today then maybe tomorrow....

Dry and very humid here at the moment.

Al0uiseG · 06/05/2011 18:08

Hot and humid here, the lawn thinks it's July and has turned a fetching shade of yellow. On the upside nothing no weeds are growing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2011 18:18

possible storm discussion

I tried to chisel weeds out of my border today. Should have got them while I could1

Luckily Bracknell, where the fires are, got some rain last night/this morning so I hope it's helped, though the firemen say it needs to rain heavily for a week to put out the peat fire that's burning under the surface.

brambleschooks · 07/05/2011 08:46

Thunder and heavy rain in cheshire and across into n Wales, where ds is camping overnight in a tent on a mountain for his d of e. Sigh.

But my fireman friend is happy and I'm relieved that the wildfires are getting a dousing.
