I think the rainfall situation is starting to get quite concerning. Down here we've had very little rainfall for the past two months and there is nothing substantial that I can see for the coming week (maybe next weekend?.....) It is the same across many central and south western areas too.

see environment agency report

In my own garden a lot of plants are showing signs of lack of water - some already losing leaves! We've had a number of fires locally too. I love this weather but its not how it should be!

Yep,I think mum will notice I didn't water the garden. Quite a few brown and dry plants including her favourite clematis. I guess I could tell her I was dessicating her slugs for her though, thanks for the inspiration BadKitten Grin

OYBBK ~ I haven't seen any sign of slugs and snails at all this year. I think my brood of fast developing tadpoles are going to be disappointed if they make it to being frogs; they're going to be a bit short of things to eat! I've noticed there aren't any greenfly on my roses either so that's a load of disappointed ladybirds as well!

DH says that the weather forecast that's just been on says we're not due for rain this weekend. Are the midlands going to miss out?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/05/2011 14:21

Gloria - you won't miss out I don't think but I'm unsure as to how much you will get.

the rain starts for some parts of western Wales, western Scotland and NW England tomorrow but the rain doesnt make it far across really, perhaps scattered showers elsewhere Then there looks to be some on friday evening (possibly) and then reasonablish rain moves across from the west on Saturday, probably reaching most parts by Sunday morning . After it seems quite a showery picture with scattered thunderstoms probably quite likely. Warm this weekend.

sticking my neck out utterly (and watching my head get chopped off as I don't have much to back this up) I personally guess think that it won't take too long for high pressure over Europe to dominate again.

Yes, after looking at the metoffice website, I think we'll get some rain over the weekend too, with some of it on the heavy side (Don't know where DH got the idea that we'd totally miss out on having some rain!)

Perhaps we should have a 'thunderstorm thread' over the weekend to see who ends up having the heavy rain/thunderstorms.

This sunny has been fantastic for me. We've been having our kitchen done for the past 3 weeks so the tumble dryer has been out of action. Thankfully sunshine and strong breezes has meant we still have clothes and the wash basket is only at the normal full level rather than overflowing. :o

The builders are planning on putting the appliances back in tomorrow... just in time for the rain that's forecast.

Mirage · 05/05/2011 08:20

Dull, cloudy and breezy in Leicestershire this morning.I'm going to tempt fate by leaving my washing out.

Every garden that I work in is like a dustbowl and my polytunnel watertank is half empty now.[does a raindance]

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2011 09:04

A mixed picture today really. Some rain for al over the next few days, but not enough to make a prolonged difference in the SE. It will really be the west, in particular the NW who see the most benefit from the rain.

It will feel different over the next few days, the low pressure to the west which is bringing rain comes over the western side for a bit. It will be warmer as we will have southerlies. But overall the picture isnt vastly different to recently. It still looks to me as if high pressure to the east will re-establish early next week pushing the low back out to the west. At the moment I would still see the next few days (perhaps longer for the west) as a reprieve rather than a pattern change.

Note that there could be some decent thunderstorms Saturday.

Also note that I could be utterly wrong on all the above Grin

It feels like it is going to rain here (Wales) today. Cloudy and dull with a sort of damp feel to the air. Still warm though, despite the wind, and I do wonder if it will thunder when the rain comes.

I just hope we get some rain, the ground in places has cracks in it now it so dry.

HarrietJones · 05/05/2011 09:59

Where's my rain? Still sun here!

mankyscotslass · 05/05/2011 10:43

cloudy here today. I am frantically trying to get another load of washing dried before it rains!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2011 11:08

mankyscotslass · 05/05/2011 13:37

Very humid here now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2011 13:38

For those experiencing rain today - what is it like? I can scarcely remember Grin

We've got cloud here in Leicester and it was almost chilly this morning. We've had the occasional sunny spell and it's warmed up a bit over the last few hours though.
Hope we're in line for some good downpours over the weekend.

HarrietJones · 05/05/2011 16:36

Spitting!!!!!!!!

bilblio · 05/05/2011 16:43

It's raining near Manchester!
Only lightly. My builders are quickly bringing all their tools in.

My head and neck are killing me. I'm expecting thunder.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 05/05/2011 16:44

We have lightning in South Derbyshire. And it's got very dark.

mankyscotslass · 05/05/2011 16:52

Raining in Manchester, fairly heavily.

DS1 is gutted, it means cricket coaching is off.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/05/2011 18:23

poor ds1 manky! there is a down side for sure.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 05/05/2011 18:48

Humid here with a lot of dark thundery~type cloud. I don't think the weather's gearing up for a thunder storm though; it doesn't have the right 'feel' to it. Maybe we'll just get a few big splots of rain instead!

mankyscotslass · 05/05/2011 19:04

Rain easing now, but very very humid.

I wish it would thunder, I have a headache!

LawrieMarlow · 05/05/2011 19:17

It is pouring with rain just outside York.
