It is STILL snowing here. HAve now had cup of tea AND coffee Grin so no excuse any more. Salopettes on shortly. We've had to cancel a playdate though: neighbour just took an hour to drive a ten minute journey because the gritters/snow clearing can't keep up. So not risking it carrying on and then not being able to pick up DS2 later on...

Snowmen here we come.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 18/12/2010 10:40

We got a brief graupel shower about an hour or so ago ... clear skies again now though. We are definitely getting off lightly this time round!

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 18/12/2010 11:00

No gritters here. And the good citizens of our village are busy compacting the snow with their various vehicles on sightseeing trips so we'll have fun tomorrow!

Ours is very fine snow, not briliant for snowmen. We are working on a snow penguin.

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 11:02

It's all grey and yuck here. No more snow. What we did have was a bugger to clear from the pavement for some reason.

TheUnmentioned · 18/12/2010 11:08

patienceplease FFS imagine not knowing what graupel is?! Philistines!

We were out last night at DH's work dinner on the other side of the estuary to our village right by the sea. We had a brief snow shower at 10.30 which made me twitch so we got a lift home, 1 mile in land and the roads were covered! We slid all over through town and nearly couldn't get up the hill to our village. Proper slippy stuff that graupel! If I look north from our upstairs windows I can see tonnes of snow falling about 5k away, quite glad we're over here!

lostinwales · 18/12/2010 12:16

WOW just went on the met office site and there's RED for London. 'Take action', I hope all you big city dwellers have got your zombie plans at the ready!

WilfShelf · 18/12/2010 12:20

bah. Snow is not snowmen snow. They had fun in the garden though, sledging down our very small slope

May go further afield for bigger slopes after lunch...

Red warnings for London look ominous. We are still in the snow forecast warning area...

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 13:03

don't go out if you are in the snowy area this unless you have to. We nearly got into a big pickle getting here. Thank goodness for snow socks. Got to get back sill. Please can someone start a thread pointing out the emergecy met office warnings. I'm on my phone. Hope to be posting properly soon

We've copped out for now - we're going to see what it's like tomorrow!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 13:42

Much easier getting back :) Gritters had been through. Was a bit hairy going!

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 18/12/2010 13:42

Back in again with frozen feet. With proper length boots on this time. It's deeper than I ever remember in the drifted bits - feels like we're somewhere very exotic.
Only a couple of inches on the roads though so it's getting clearer.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 13:54

I'm almost at a loss for words really this lunchtime. Those away from this snow band will be wondering what on earth we are making a fuss about but for those in it - it is a really nasty event. Heavy accumulations very quickly.

Have to give a hats off to our council who have clearly learned some lessons. Within an hour of it stopping snowing they had the main roads in our area clear. Well done them!

TheUnmentioned · 18/12/2010 13:57

in major huff, yet another snow thread is discussion of day!! mnhq clearly taking the piss now.

Bucharest · 18/12/2010 17:36

I made it home! (Stansted-Nottm) 30 min delay only because daft Italians on plane couldn't decide where to sit and kept shouting and blowing whistles. Chips were good.

My mother now thinks am complete loon as when she and her friends are on phone discussing whether their various travel plans should be curtailed I immediately say "Well, SnowyKitten says....."

No snow here since I arrived last night. Bliddy freeezing mucho though.

sarahfreck · 18/12/2010 19:43

A good 3 to 4 inches here and deeper in places. It snowed solidly for hours and hours last night. I spent some time this afternoon as part of a team trying to clear at least parts of the church car park to make things safer tomorrow. Really enjoyed it actually. It was good exercise too! Came home fairly encrusted with...salt from the salting/gritting part of the exercise. Outer clothing has been washed and walking boots rinsed of salt. Ive had my tea and I'm trying to convince myself I really do need to get on with the pile of stuff that needs doing!

Couldn't get to work this morning though. This might have been an issue as I'm self-employed so no work = no pay, however hopefully I've rearranged for Tuesday.

DO NOT tell me it will snow again for Tuesday morning! [Walks off with fingers in ears singing "la la la I can't hear you"]

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 23:05

Oh well done Bucharest!!! but a bit blush one day I will get it so badly wrong that.... well, as long as everyone remembers I get stuff wrong.

that salt can really burm sarahfreck - if it gets into your gloves very good effort though.

shan't tell you about tuesday then, Goodnight :)

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 23:05

oh see I can't even Blush properly now!

g'night.
