South of Oldham, just 2 or 3 junctions down the M60.

Nothing here yet. DH said he thought there were a few flakes when he took eldest Manky to cubs, but I've not seen any!

We are putting our house up for sale in January and are planning on moving to Delph or Uppermill so won't be far from you. Smile

OYSSK - At the moment we've decided we will do our drive to Cardiff (from SW London). We don't live far from the A3/M25/M4, and SIL doesn't live far from the M4 at her end (and it's downhill all the way, apparently, to her!).

What do you reckon is the best time for us to set off? We have about 2cm of settled snow here, which no doubt will freeze and go icy overnight, so I was thinking of setting off at around 10.30 ...

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 17/12/2010 20:33

hang on, let me have a look :)

SantaClausImWorthIt · 17/12/2010 20:34

Thank you - I really, really appreciate it. I so want to get there tomorrow!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 17/12/2010 20:36

that looks as good a time as any :) you'll get a chance to see how the traffic is building up on traffic england

SantaClausImWorthIt · 17/12/2010 20:44

Thank you Xmas Smile

SantaClausImWorthIt · 17/12/2010 20:48

Actually, traffic is the least of my concerns!

It will just be DS2 and me, and I'm going to pack a shovel, sleeping bags, snow boots, jackets and gloves, and make sure that I take more than enough food.

We'll also have 2 phones, 2 chargers (I have a charger thing we can plug into the cigarette lighter) and a radio (separate from the car radio). I think I'll take a torch as well.

sarahfreck · 17/12/2010 20:58

It is snowing here (Greater Manchester) now but only a dusting on the ground atm - but perhaps it has only recently started? I've had the curtains closed.
A really good weather watcher I am! Xmas Blush

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 17/12/2010 20:58

Still snowing/graupelling here.Coming down my chimbley and hissing Xmas Grin
I hope it doesn't turn to sleet - it doesn't feel that cold.

grumpykat25 · 17/12/2010 21:01

Living in Birmingham is rubbish for weather. Still cold, still not snowing, still CRAP! Where's my snow

patienceplease · 17/12/2010 21:26

Just wanted to say a big THANKYOU to OYBBK - for advice about when to travel - did my journey yesterday before the snow/ ice and I'm really glad I did as I think lots of areas along my route had snow today which I do not like driving in...
Herefordshire - about -2 and had graupel (I think) and a quick shower this evening - maybe 1cm.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 17/12/2010 21:34

I am so glad you go there safely Patience :) that has really made me smile Xmas Smile

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 17/12/2010 21:37

I guess Santa I meant that if you saw that the traffic was really slow or stopped using the traffic england motorway flow page then you would know that there could well be enough snow to stop you for perhaps a few hours. Could be quite a good indicator of problems?

TeuchnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 17/12/2010 21:39

Hallo all. After much graupelling and whooshy wind, we have been unceremoniously dumped on by loads of real snow (aaaahhhh) and then it has all frozen into funny humpy drifts which have totally recreated the landscape of the island!

I think the snow may be over for now...is all eerily quiet.

sarahfreck · 17/12/2010 21:42

Snowing very heavily here now. I wonder if I'll be able to get to work tomorrow morning!

WilfShelf · 17/12/2010 21:44

OMG, the warning for NI is RED! Eek. What kind of 'taking action' are people supposed to do in the circs?

patienceplease · 17/12/2010 21:48

OYBBK - especially pleased as I was travelling with DS (4) and DD (3) and am 35 weekd pg so really didn't want to get stuck!

paperclips28mm · 17/12/2010 21:50

To the people who have snow falling now, where are you?

We've got to decide whether to travel northwest from Swindon across to Milton Keynes and back again on Sunday. I can't work out if we'll even be able to tell by tomorrow morning whether it'll be OK or not. We'll have toddlers in the car and would rather avoid any snow stress at all really.
