Don't we know it-a very close family member is undergoing an opertaion any minute now which she may not pull through and no-one can get there to be with her as she was transferred into London in the night :-(

A few weeks ago she was fine.

Fucking snow-i am allowed to swear surely, just today.

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 13:35

Kkey21. I hope it goes well.

Thank you so much Manky. It was much easier getting back. the gritters had been through.

I'm so sorry Kkey - I hope they do ok.

lou33 · 18/12/2010 13:41

My bf is out there working in all this atrocious weather, he is what people describe as the 4th emergency service

i echo mankys post, please dont go out unless you really really have to

he says the roads are appalling, and their recovery vehicles are getting stuck trying to get to broken down vehicles

so much so they have had to cancel anyone wanting a homestart, as their drivers cant get down many side roads, and we have had 6 inches of snow in 3 hours

i am meant to be doing last min xmas shopping, but it just isnt worth the risk, the kids can have the rest of their gifts when the snow melts, and it will be an extended xmas

kkey , i hope things turn out well

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 18/12/2010 13:42

blimey - they've changed that warning since this morning.

We now have snow here - only a little way nort of Bedfordshire (which is coloured red) so I hope we don't get it that bad as well here

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 18/12/2010 13:43

oh flip - I've just realised. ExH has gone elsewhere with the boys this morning (not sure whether to Northampton or to Bedford......) as opposed to the next street where he lives. the weather was ok here when he left. I hope he doesn't get stuck somewhere with them Xmas Shock!

Igglystuffedfullofturkey · 18/12/2010 13:48

Loads of snow here in south London. Luckily DH went out this morning before it started to get food in. It's stopped now and the sun is breaking through.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 14:01

Reports of some big problems on the M25.

GypsyMoth · 18/12/2010 14:05

Well it's snowing here in Bedford baroquin.....and settling!

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 18/12/2010 14:07

we've had a bit of snow, and it has settled (just a thin covering) - it's stopped now - but the clouds look full and heavy - I think we'll get more.

I'm hoping he's just popped along the A45 to his sister........

Littlefish · 18/12/2010 14:09

We were supposed to be going to the theatre about 70 miles away. We're not going. Sad. We saved up for ages for the tickets and can't get a refund as the performance is going ahead.

Never mind. At least we're safe and warm at home. We've got about 6-8 inches of snow I reckon.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 14:12

Littlefish - thats rubbish :( do you have any insurance you can claim on?

FlightoftheCrimbleTree · 18/12/2010 14:13

We hadn't any this morning, now it's four inches thick - took about 2 hours.

We were going to go to Argos! That's not going to happen, can't get the car out.

How minor though, I'm sorry for those who are in genuine difficulty. It must be awful Sad

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 14:14

I think this must be very distressing for many people. I always try to remember that when I get over excited about weather.

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 14:26

Glad you got home ok OYSSK. It looks really bad on the news.

We are out getting bits and bobs for stocking filler. Some of the side roads here are bad, and we only got about an inch of snow over night and its been clear all day.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 14:30

I read the motorway near Manchester stopped over night?
It is bad. Cleared out of area now - dh has to do all of his Christmas shopping (ie my present) in our poxy town centre on foot - talk about pushing his luck!

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 14:43

It may have been! We have just gone. Up to Eastlands to get the boys some City things, and the snow is deeper there than with us.

Bump for anyone travelling today

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 16:52

Thank you for bumping Manky :)

lou33 · 18/12/2010 18:12

my bf says the m25 is littered with abandoned cars, and the snow ploughs are out on it

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 19:46

what a mess!

RockinRobinBird · 18/12/2010 19:57

Our two big Christmas parties this weekend have been cancelled, I have hardly any presents bought. It is going to be an odd, extended Christmas this year. Nothing we can do except embrace it. As long as everyone is safe and good wishes to all who have to go out.

mankyscotslass · 18/12/2010 20:13

Lou, I used to work for them too, in Service Delivery before they shut our office. Weather like this always makes me grateful I no longer work for them, and sorry for the poor blokes on the road!

OP posts:
lou33 · 18/12/2010 20:23

he doesnt work for that specific company, but one of them iyswim

and yes it really makes me wonder why people do non emergency journeys in weather like this, when when yesterday he worked from 6.30 am - 9pm and today from 8-5, for example

(his usual hours over these two days would be 6.30 - 5.30 and 8-2)

i took my oldest to work this morning before the snow started , it is a ten min journey each way , and by the time i got back it was a blizzard

she was meant to finish at 12.30, but i couldnt go get her, so in the end my bf saved the day with a works vehicle 4 x 4 and went to get her for me after he finished work
