Metmonkey are forecasting this for next week. We'll see ~ probably a bit early to say for certain whether this will happen or whether it'll just be cold and frosty.

OP posts:
mychatnickname · 24/11/2010 22:20

pah that's ages off isn't it.
I just hope we get some as I smugly bought a sledge right at the end of last winter so I'd have one ready next time it snowed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 22:27

Newcastle loooked amazing on bbc news just now - huge fat flakes.

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/11/2010 22:28

Am not sure where wellies are

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 22:36

it'll be sainsburys bags tied round your feet (witnessed a group of elderly walkers waddle into a pub with carrier bags on their feet the other week [grin)]

am off to bed - need sleep!

BelleDameSansMerci · 24/11/2010 22:40

OYBK - just wanted to say thanks. I check with you before the weather sites now!

CherryMonster · 24/11/2010 23:15

well according to the met office it should be snowing in cheltenham right now! just looked out the window and nothing Sad

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/11/2010 23:22

Have found my wellies and DD's wellies.

Has stopped snowing now

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2010 07:07

:) you are very welcome Belledame.

How is everyone this morning? I see there are a good number of showers off the NE and also over eastern Scotland and some potentially snowy showers over Cornwall and the far western tip of Wales. A rogue shower around London too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2010 07:12

Well looking at the warnings for today they broadly reflect where the showers are now. They are coming further south and more inland than was shown in the forecasts yesterday and also affecting more of the west coast.

A clear demonstration that much of snow forecasting is more of a 'now cast' and realsitically you can only highlight possibilities and probabilities.

winterpetunia · 25/11/2010 10:05

Morning all.
We've had a hard frost again ~ temp gauge on the car said it was -3 when I went to defrost it at 8am and that had risen to -1 40 minutes ago. It was quite cloudy so I was hoping that we'd get the odd snow flurry but now the sun's coming out so don't think that'll happen.

OYBBK ~ Seeing what you posted yesterday about weather forecasters not being able to say "we haven't a clue" when it came to snow, I thought the national forecast after the 10pm news last night, said just that! For the weekend, they said that snow showers could crop up anywhere and that really it was a case of 'nowcasting' and to listen to local radio for travel updates. It'll be interesting to see what happens, especially as metmonkey are still going for the 'heavy snow for all' theme.

CherryMonster · 25/11/2010 10:06

nothing here Sad

mankyscotslass · 25/11/2010 11:27

A flurry has made it over the Pennines, tiny flakes to show us what we are missing!

I'm now praying it gets no worse, as I have lunch duty to do, and heavier snow means wet play....

moonmother · 25/11/2010 12:09

Hi from a bitterly cold Bedfordshire.

Woke up to a tiny sprinkiling of snow on the cars and fence tops. Was cold, bright and frosty this morning, but has increasingly clouded over in the past hour.

Pressure's dropping and it's still on 1.5 here.

All ready for it here, however would like it to wait till tonight, Dp is in London with work this afternoon , and would like him home .

Grin
cheesesarnie · 25/11/2010 12:17

woke up to snow in north cornwall!

Twit · 25/11/2010 13:06

WHat about Herefordshire? Close to the Malverns? Will I need to stock up on longlife milk? Bread? Tinned goods? Will I be justified in moaning at dh for not getting some snow weather boots yet?
Where should I move to if i want snow more often? Grin.

It was bright and freezing here, lovely really. However at the moment it is clouding over...

BelleDameSansMerci · 25/11/2010 13:09

Nothing in or around Huddersfield/Holmfirth (yay) and I'm in Rotherham now and nothing here yet. My car was actually less frosted up this morning than it has been for most of the week.

I crossing my fingers (pointlessly) that it will avoid us until the weekend. I have a day off tomorrow and will be extremely miffed if snow stops haircut!

moonmother · 25/11/2010 13:25

Something I've noticed today-

The birds are going crazy for the birdfood, I've put out today. Not just at my birdfeeders but at neighbouring ones too.

It's a bit of a birdfeeding frenzy here today, wonder if they know there's bad weather on the way?

DanceInTheDark · 25/11/2010 13:31

WE have had approximately 15 flakes and the shelves in my local tesco express are empty of bread Hmm

My weather station temps don't tally with the really local 'proper' temps - it's showing a bit higher. But it has had a "high" of 3.4 so far today. ANd thats without the wind which we have off and on.
Are you on twitter OYBBK? If you use the hashtag #uksnow you help to update this site (i think it's already been linked)

Glitterknickaz · 25/11/2010 13:39

We've got all the cloud but none of it is falling here. Gutted.

In Horsham... from memory OYBK isn't that far away?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2010 13:41

I've not tried twitter yet - I could do now I have a phone that could manage it - will look into it :)

Maximum of 1.5C here. GFS had us at 3C max so it so far is overcooking the temps enough to make a difference.

Herefodshire - yeah you'll get some. As to whether to stock up? depends on whether you need the car to get in supplies.

BTW - if anyone genuinely needs rock salt our screwfix depot had big buckets for £20 (which I thought was jolly expensive)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2010 13:42

Glitter - not too far away. Wait until the weekend and beyond. our turn will come.

Glitterknickaz · 25/11/2010 13:46

Squeeeeeeeee Grin

onadietcokebreak · 25/11/2010 14:08

hope its not too bad up there- you always get it worse than us.

Woke up to snow and all thawed now. Local radio says it has just started again.

No one is laughing at my purchase of snow shovels and salt now!

FoundWanting · 25/11/2010 14:13

Just started snowing in Norwich. Lovely.

Twit · 25/11/2010 14:13

hmm, we don't very often get good snow here Sad. Last winter was great though. It has gone very dark though now so we'll see.
I never know which weather map to look at and end up looking at west midlands, wales and south west and making an un educated guess. Confused It doesn't help that Hereford isn't usually on the maps either.
Am in awe of the weather gurus here.Grin
