Metmonkey are forecasting this for next week. We'll see ~ probably a bit early to say for certain whether this will happen or whether it'll just be cold and frosty.

OP posts:

Yes Noah - almost certainly you will be seeing snow showers by tomorrow morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 16:53

CM - still unsure as to how far it will penetrate - diff models showing different things.

sherby · 24/11/2010 17:05

Well our sledges just arrived so bring on the snow Grin

MummyBerryJuice · 24/11/2010 17:31

Yeah. DH got home Smile

mankyscotslass · 24/11/2010 17:34

I think buying the snow shovels worked. Not a sniff of the white stuff here!

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/11/2010 17:38

Thank you :)

What are the chances of journey from York to Hull on Saturday being ok?

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/11/2010 17:39

Hooray for mr mummyberryjuice :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 18:00

Manky - you werent expected to get any today!

Noah, not really sure - depends on your mode of transport really! Sleigh - no problems at all. Roads - depends on your council!

Ok I have to be honest everyone, I'm finding it quite hard to keep up, the models are saying different things, the uk is quite big, there are lots of exciting things weather wise for several days to come, I'm rather busy over the next few days with real life and I'm a huge novice at this stuff. I absolutely love giving forecasts, it gives me a chance to indulge my hobby and to learn but if I don't get round to being able to help out its not cos I don't like you and please don't pelt me with snowballs if I get it all wrong!!!

something to get southern snow lovers excited about

mankyscotslass · 24/11/2010 18:04

OYBBK, I am laughing at Metcheck at the moment....looking at my post code we should have blizzards early next week!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 18:05

GFS is giving us blizzards too next week - in fact it has a very 'Stephen King' look to the blizzards it is going for!

mankyscotslass · 24/11/2010 18:19

ooooh Storm of the Centruty....all we need is the spook stranget turning up and taking one us us as his price!

mankyscotslass · 24/11/2010 18:22

spooky stranger even. Hmm

Does it really look bad next week then?

catinthehat2 · 24/11/2010 18:36

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT GERMAN MAP ABOUT??

please tell me it's not snow depth in cm

ShockShockShock

CherryMonster · 24/11/2010 18:44

ok, so i have checked 4 different weather sites for predictions for my location.

netweather says snow friday saturday and sunday,
metcheck says snow monday tuesday and wednesday,
met office says no
and bbc weather says snow tomorrow lunchtime.

wtf?????????

mankyscotslass · 24/11/2010 18:46

Well I know it's snowing in Germany, my Neice just sent me a message on FB, she is proper fed up!

SleepingLion · 24/11/2010 18:48

cherrymonster - I am in the same situation. Am liking metcheck because it has no snow for us until next Tuesday. Google says I am getting snow tomorrow Hmm

But why do they all say different things?

SleepingLion · 24/11/2010 18:51

I don't like netweather - snow from tonight, apparently.

seeker · 24/11/2010 18:56

We call Netweather "ChickEn Lickin Eorecast' HENNY PENNY The Sky is Falling!!!!!!!!!

SleepingLion · 24/11/2010 19:22
Grin
OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 20:42

cat - yes - that is what gfs are predicitng for next tuesday - its gorn mad I tell you.

CM and SL - noone actually knows the specifics, snow forecasting is very difficult in this country but forecasting sites are never going to put 'havent got a clue - this is our best guess' on their websites - so they do the best they can with the particular model they use.

Also remember, the rest of the year we are quite happy with knowing we may or may not get showers, but when it comes to snow, those showers really make a difference and we all really want to know to much more detail than we usually have.

I think it is still true that the metcheck postcode weather forecaster is fully automated so there is no human filtering the nonsense that computer models can show sometimes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 20:44

(sorry that map is thursday - not tuesday. durr!)

mychatnickname · 24/11/2010 22:00

Thursday as in tomorrow??

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/11/2010 22:14

Is now snowing in York. Well, four miles east of it

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2010 22:16

thursday next week mychat!
yay noah (little earlier than I thought)

Hassled · 24/11/2010 22:19

As long as the Manchester-Norwich flight lands tomorrow evening I'm not fussed - but that plane needs to land.

We've had a bit of snow this evening - nothing too dramatic (Norfolk).
