Metmonkey are forecasting this for next week. We'll see ~ probably a bit early to say for certain whether this will happen or whether it'll just be cold and frosty.

Me too, well not far anyway, can not wait!

onimolap · 20/11/2010 13:36

Met Office is talking about possibility of sleet and snow reaching even low lying areas, across the country. But that is in their slightly longer range forecast, which is couched in language to reflect lack of certainty from this far ahead. But, I suppose, a definite maybe.

cryhavoc · 20/11/2010 13:42

Alouiseg, I love the idea of a weather predicting dog!

Hope we get some. I LOVE it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 13:54

That is a pretty good summary onimolap. Whislt there will be exceptions this week, I fear that many of you may be disappointed. Cold sleet, and a raw feel for most I think.... but as I say the models just arent settled enough for any organisation to be predicting things with any certainty.

Next Monday though..... though it is off in fantasy land gfs looks very interesting for a good majority :)

Remember it is only November and this is a jolly good start to what I think may well be another long cold winter. If it is any indication, I bought extra coal today and stocked up on cat litter....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 17:22

brrrr - some stupid cold charts for november by gfs. For instance on saturday midday it has temps of -1C for southern uk then saturday night widespread -6 to -8C with a -11C for the highlands.

KittyFoyle · 20/11/2010 17:26

We have had loads of wood delivered. Need some new slipper socks. Get ready for snuggling. That's interesting about the Finnish dog. Alouiseg I know of a Norwegian dog who predicts the weather.

catinthehat2 · 20/11/2010 21:02

Pleeeease , no settling snow, I can't stand the stuff....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 22:14

catinthehat - unless you are far sw then that is quite possibly a forlorn hope this winter.

onadietcokebreak · 20/11/2010 22:18

Oybbk- does that mean we will miss it in cornwall?

Lilyloo · 20/11/2010 22:22

How can snow have come back so quickly i still haven't erased the memory of too much white stuff earlier this year.
I don't feel lucky we always get snow when it is forecast and lots of it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 22:24

For the time being onadiet, but November is so early to be talking about generalised snow and the winter in general, so don't rule it out for later.

Out of interest, what is your experience of snow in Cornwall in the past?

onadietcokebreak · 20/11/2010 22:32

Last year was awful- stuck in my estate. The snow itself wasn't too bad just the infrastructure couldn't cope.

Few years ago when friends got stuck on moors was a bit unexpected- happened very quickly. Again poor roads etc

The snow we get isn't deep- not like it used to me like where I'm originally from - however no one is prepared.

Praying for no snow. I'm an hour away by car from ds. Biggest fear is not being able to get to him when stranded by snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2010 22:36

perhaps I should withdraw my sw statement then!!!
will think melty thoughts on school days for you

MsSparkle · 20/11/2010 22:45

No it can't snow! Not until after the 3rd of Dec!

InkyStamp · 20/11/2010 22:57

OYBBK - can you clear something up for me? Where the F is Hertdordshire? I mean, I know where it is, obviously! But where is it classed? East Anglia? I always get confused! It seems to depend on what website you are looking at (and by that I mean for jobs it can be in several different areas, then another altogether when looking at weather and then a third or fourth one when searching for something else! ) So, when you talk about weather (and I intend to stalk you this winter as I love weather but have no knowledge of it!) would you include Herts in your 'East' forecasts?

In my defence we only JUST moved here! Blush

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/11/2010 22:59

dreading snow and ice here., got to drive 70 miles a day and having just dont some very graphic crash investigation stuff at work i am not a fan of bad weather for driving in.

no snow here purlease!

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/11/2010 23:07

I don't want it to snow next weekend between York and Hull please :)

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/11/2010 23:07

Actually it can on Sunday. Just Saturday needs to be possible to go between the two with four boys and one girl and two grownups please.

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/11/2010 23:09

And I am travelling from York to London a week on Monday.

Can the snow hold off until the second week in December please, when I will be back where I live and the birthday party will be done?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2010 09:01

Inky - the met office consider you to be in the East of England but you are in a bit of an awkward spot Grin I wouldnt classify you as east Anglia - more central England. I would classify you also as East as well and I suppose sometimes you might scrape in to a SE forecast.

ok, off to look at the latest :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2010 09:23

ok - for a start - its still looking very cold. By the weekend, maximums even in the south of 1 or 2C

I can't give any real details as the different computer models still seem to be giving rather different results. Cold is a certainty. Snow for some is a certainty. Met office are talking about a risk of heavy snow, especially in the East.

Looking at one model - the GFS. Snow risk seems rather high this week from wednesday/thursday onwards, especially in the east. (feels a bit pale - completely love snow, just not until the weekend please) Friday's gfs looks exciting for most of us. Generally central parts seem the driest through the weekend - but not entirely dry.

mankyscotslass · 21/11/2010 09:39

I'm just grateful DH isn't working away from home as much now. Last winter he had to drive to and from Slough every week, and with the weather conditions I was really worried.

Now he can mostly work from home, with only an occasional trip down south, so I can relax a bit about it!

I'm pretty sure we had snow about this time last year, I remember him being down there and it snowing heavily here!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2010 12:11

dh is going be having to do a lot of driving this winter :(

SuePurblybiltByElves · 21/11/2010 12:15

Right, I have an outdoor activities session on Wednesday avo. I'm South west. Should I same myself the bother prepping for it and do indoor stuff instead?

Killermouse · 21/11/2010 12:17
