Metmonkey are forecasting this for next week. We'll see ~ probably a bit early to say for certain whether this will happen or whether it'll just be cold and frosty.

So, how is Herts looking for snow ?? Anyone found me yet? Grin

On a more serious note thank you for letting me know that I am not the only one who cant work out where I am! I shall further more include myself in your East forecasts! :)

mankyscotslass · 22/11/2010 22:21

I finally got my snow shovels ordered! Lets hope they arrive before the snow.....not that I really think we will get any here.

Last year was the first in 10 years that I have seen snow like that!

Still, better safe than sorry, and there was no way I was going to attempt to clear snow with our garden spade again, it was a nightmare

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 10:27

The forecast (and remember things change!) for Friday looks very interesting this morning. It is going to be marginal and it could end up being a rain/sleet/wet snow situation for a good part of England and Wales including the SE.

In particular I think people should be aware that evening rush-hour could be nightmarish for some - the councils are going to have a real challenge to work out when to grit. Too early - and it gets washed away - too late and the snow starts laying while the traffic is slower and the gritters can't do anything.

So, if you have rain Friday, keep a really close eye on the temps and if you need to travel Friday evening be aware that the situation could possibly become rather horrid and standstillish. (rather like the week Monday before Christmas last year in fact)

mankyscotslass · 23/11/2010 10:39

It can snow now, our snow shovels arrived today!

Of course, that means that it won't snow for the next 10 years. Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 11:09

lol!! tis ever the way.

petunia · 23/11/2010 11:22

The weather advisories have been changed for Thursday. I'm covered as well by it but I still think it'll be the Peak District that gets it all ~ it always does in our area!

SIL is in Glossop, she was sick of the sight of snow last winter!
I can see the Peaks from the top of our road, but it's usally a whole world away in terms of weather!

moonmother · 23/11/2010 11:46

Met Office just updated website again , and yay I'm in there Grin

seeker · 23/11/2010 12:42

Advisories for the SE on Saturday!!!!!

noddyholder · 23/11/2010 12:49

I love snow! Have just bought dp and ds new wellies and the chimneys were repaired and swept last week.bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!

DaftApeth · 23/11/2010 14:13

Ooer, I might get to wear my wellies to the 'do' on Saturday night afterall Grin

It would save a lot of indecision about footwear Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 15:27

Just got back in - UK is split rather nicely in half by the advisories!

TequilaMockinBird · 23/11/2010 15:31

We had heavy sleet here at lunchtime (North East England. Didnt last long but sky is very grey!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 15:31

Funny though - the difference between 'severe' weather and 'disruptive' weather. As I said earlier, there is the potential for chaos rush hour friday evening for those in the SE (extending towards central southern England).

One of those situations that may well result in nothing or may result in headline stranded traffic with only small accumulations.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 17:04

Saturday looks somewhat rather snowy for most of us on the latest GFS model run. Fridays possible event is delayed until night time as well 9good news for commuters and travellers). Could change back by tomorrow - who knows? But have started a separate thread for Friday's possible chaos.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 18:40

thursdays risk map issued by met office.

mankyscotslass · 23/11/2010 18:50

hmm.

Looking at that map we may be in the higher risk area after all, it depends on how far over the Pennines it comes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 19:00

Its further over than I expected tbh.

duckyfuzz · 23/11/2010 19:23

Hmmm I'm meant to be meeting my mum in York on Fri, travelling from Durham, I think it may class as non essential!

ShirtyGerty · 23/11/2010 19:38

Snow forecast for 'almost anywhere over the weekend' by the BBC 2 mins ago.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 19:41

certainly one to keep an eye on duckyfuzz.

shirtygerty, that about sums it up!

Which means, if it happens here, there have only been 8 months without some snow this year here.

rosieposey · 23/11/2010 19:53

Ohhh iv'e been watching this thread for a few days now, can't tell you how excited i am! Ok to be fair the BBC website only showed 'snow showers' for Wiltshire but you never know!

I have a 21 month old DS who was born two years ago this Feb in the worst snow storm ever, i can remember looking out of the window in the labour suite and it was blizzard conditions and DH had to be dug out 3 times to get to the hospital. I was born in the Snow too which must be where i get the love from, can't wait to pass it on to DS Grin bring on the snow!

OYBBK you do a great job :) - where do you get all of your info from?

sherby · 23/11/2010 21:17

Shall we have a round of applause for OYBBK Smile

I bet netmums don't have their own weatherwoman Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2010 21:43

blush

don't forget Petunia who is always on the ball :)

rosie thats such a superb memory to have - very cool! (I bet it was a bit stressful at the time) I look at the models on wetterzentrale mostly looking at one the GFS - not because its the best but because it has the most data. Then because I'm still learning (hugely) I'll look at weather forums to see if I'm on the right track. For radar I use the met office. I do get things wrong! (just ask Msureenlove about the duff advice I gave her!!!!)
