Metmonkey are forecasting this for next week. We'll see ~ probably a bit early to say for certain whether this will happen or whether it'll just be cold and frosty.

It would be good Meglet!

NL - I'm sorry, I can't assure you. At the moment it is still too early to say exactly when and where the snow will fall. I would say be prepared. Can you go the day before possibly?

gFS seems to show the really cold weather delayed until Friday now. It also shows that it actually stays dry for many, for much of the time in central England. As I said yesterday, it will be short term synoptics that are really important towards the end of the week.

NorthernLurker · 22/11/2010 08:14

No - mil isn't arriving from SCOTLAND to look after dcs till Friday night. Oh bugger Sad

sherby · 22/11/2010 09:46

Is it weird that as soon as I have checked metoffice I come straight on here to see what OYBBK is saying Grin

petunia · 22/11/2010 10:14

OYBBK Smile I just like comparing the weather websites and seeing if they 'agree'. I also like watching as the other sites forecast something (as metmonkey did this time) and then seeing if the metoffice comes up with the same thing, perhaps a few days later.

Our 5 day chart on the bbc is now saying sleet for us for Thursday. I think that I'm just going to get the odd snow flurry over the next few days; nothing substantial. Oh well, it is only November; there's still Winter to come!

Oh no, NL - just what you don't need (did you sort out an outfit yet?)

petunia · 22/11/2010 11:56

Metoffice advisories are out for later in the week.

Hmm very Scotland and oop North on those maps.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 12:38

catinthehat - those are the 'pretty darn certain' areas. I expect that the risk will be extended down the ne later in the week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 12:45

Looks very interesting this lunchtime. :) Don't lose hope those of you who are further south - particularly on the eastern side. As I've said further up the thread, short term synoptics are going to come into play at the end of the week and things could develop pretty quickly.

lucykate · 22/11/2010 12:46

we've got snow forecast for later this week. dh is off to hong kong on friday with work for a week, lucky git!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 12:47

In fact the met office are echoing that in their forecast:

UK Outlook for Saturday 27 Nov 2010 to Monday 6 Dec 2010:

The first weekend will see snow showers anywhere in the UK, but most showers or longer periods of snow will be across eastern areas, with maybe southern areas being affected too. Risk of some significant accumulations, especially on hills. Also clearer spells, more in the west, with widespread frosts. All areas very cold. Continuing windy in places; risk of gales in the northeast. The first part of next week sees further snow showers in the east, with drier and brighter conditions to the west, and still very cold, but perhaps turning less cold in the south later. For the rest of the period it will stay cold with further wintry showers. The south and southwest may be milder at times but with some spells of rain, sleet, or possibly snow.

Sad was clutching at straws

sherby · 22/11/2010 13:36

I love the difference between the websites

Metmonkey - snow

Netweather - some snow

Metoffice - no snow but maybe some sleet

BBC - sunny skies with some cloud

We are Colchester btw and would LOVE some snow

Grin
OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 13:45

sorry cat - I tend to not think sometimes.

Colchester=reasonable chance by end of weekend

sherby · 22/11/2010 14:01

wooooo hoooo

liamsdaddy · 22/11/2010 14:17

If the snow hits Colchester hopefully it stays there and doesn't venture any further down the A12 or decides to meander itself along the coast (which often is the case with Southend and Basildon getting hit harder by snow then some inland areas).

Although, normally I would love some snow - I'm planning of driving from this side of London to the other around the M25 on Saturday and if I put it off it will be the new year (which will be a nuisance as it means posting all the presents).

catinthehat2 · 22/11/2010 16:23

don't worry OYBBK! I used Sad becasue there isn't an emoticon for whinging snow-hater

Grin
catinthehat2 · 22/11/2010 16:24

(whinging snow-hater would be me BTW)

seeker · 22/11/2010 16:27

Hmm. Probably not a good idea for us to drive from Kent to Bradford in a 9 year old Fiat Punto on Saturday........

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 16:51

Grin cat!

seeker - don't cancel yet (unless you need an excuse!!) things may still change.

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 22/11/2010 18:59

East midlands weather has just been on and predicted snow for us on Thursday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 20:06

Thanks MrsCadillac :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2010 20:08

Very first hints by one of the models of the possibility of some decent snowfall into central southern England on Friday into the evening. (This is where I have to start containing my excitment - takes deep calming breathes)

Borisismyhousespider · 22/11/2010 21:37

Well that's cracking, especially when I'm moving house next monday Hmm

cupofteaplease · 22/11/2010 22:09

I'm in Northants and would LOVE some snow on Wednesday evening! Could really do with a snow day on Thursday! Grin
