Just that really.

If you are spiritual, do you get anything coming through from this photo?
Any thoughts, feelings or vibes?

I sense a femininity that goes further than being gay.

Autumnismyfavouritetime · 16/08/2023 11:31

I see that similar melancholic look in this young man’s eye when I also look at photos of my grandad who was of a similar age at that time. That sad, resigned look of any poor young soul who has been dragged into a war they didn’t start or wish to finish or have any part in even more so if you are a sensitive person like this young man obviously was. Luckily for my grandad, he came back from war, sadly this beautiful man didn’t and that fear shows in his eyes. Nothing spiritual or soo about it, just sadness and the realities of life.

woo

VariantHela · 16/08/2023 12:04

Not claiming to be spiritual, but I'm getting a feeling of strong romantic love, with a deep deep sadness. Maybe a love not reciprocated, or didn't get the chance to say how he felt

Pugh is a Welsh surname, it is the anglicisation of Ap Huw (son of Huw).
He looks very Welsh to me, he actually looks a lot like a relative of mine.
When I saw the picture the thing I kept thinking of was music.

Interesting. Yes music, makes sense. My husband and his father who is where the Welsh heritage is from, both very musical. Thanks for the info. My fil could speak Welsh, amazing language.

KittensandPerverts · 16/08/2023 15:48

There's a picture of me looking very similar. I'd love to hear it being psychoanalysed here before explaining that it was taken on the last day of my holidays and I wasn't haunted by an unforbidden love or holding in a dark secret...just holding in the runs.

He feels bit more serious and a bit scary/angry

He likes corduroy trousers and hated Wednesdays in October. Once enjoyed a really lovely steak pie. Will never accept anyone questioning the King.

Just a b&w photo of some dude from eons ago.

GettingStuffed · 16/08/2023 20:35

I feel like he's looking through me

Firstworldprobs · 16/08/2023 20:45

In the closet gay man.

The whole "spiritual" woo stuff is so annoying. It's a black and white photograph of a good looking young man. Anyone with a smidgen of imagination can create a backstory for him.

I agree.

BarelyLiterate · 16/08/2023 21:56

Er, it looks very much like an old photo of a handsome young man. What am I supposed to be missing? 🤷🏻‍♀️

HalloumiLuvver · 16/08/2023 22:11

He has sad but kind eyes. Looks like an artistic sort.

Now off to read the thread and find out he's probably the chap who murdered OP's great granny or some such.

HalloumiLuvver · 16/08/2023 22:20

Seagullchippy · 16/08/2023 10:54

He was gay and was a killer, then: so quite a few guessed right!

Where does anything above say he was a killer?

Not the first time I've noticed your interpretation of threads on MN is a bit ... off.

The things that sprung into my mind when I saw this were determination and resolve. Someone has wronged him and he's determined not to let it happen again. No idea if this is true but it's what I thought of immediately.

Hawkins009 · 17/08/2023 10:41

Military or espionage

sjpkgp1 · 18/08/2023 23:15

@TiredDonut had a look up (via ancestry, find a war grave etc.) after looking at photo. Lots of info on him, he was born on 11 July 1921 to John and Martha (Liverpool) thanks to earlier poster for finding it, and in the 1939 census he was registered as "literary student", he had a one older brother (same name as dad) and a sister called Bunny who was 11 years older than him (born 1910). His dad died in 1940 before just before he went to war. He served in the Royal Marines from 1942 when he was 21 years old. His mum died in 1958 (aged 70) in Liverpool, and his brother a year later, aged 50 in Flintshire. I hope this helps. xx

Great thread btw, I'm not at all woo, but a love a bit of a "detective / guessing" thread @CurlewKate this man served in the first world war and survived despite all odds, although he had trouble after with his health. I'm going to hedge my bets and say before he went to war he worked in transport (railways, possibly post office or in government capacity) He had at least one son. I'm probably miles off, but it is good fun the guessing....

Huge sadness and unfulfilled potential

Lost chances

Amybelle88 · 28/08/2023 21:59

Utter sadness.

seafronty · 30/08/2023 05:50

This thread is hilarious.

seafronty · 30/08/2023 05:54

It is remarkable that everyone said sadness while looking at a picture of a sad looking person. Everyone looks like this in old photos. People didn't pout, add stupid stickers or the word cute to their faces, or anything. They took one serious photo and that was it.

Hopinghonestly · 30/08/2023 05:57

Just War and an office with loads of paper in America.
Charlie comes to mind?
