Yes, Raoul Pugh. Died at 23, Royal Marines. Poet. I can’t find his actual poetry though. And I’m not subscribed to the New York Times and don’t intend to, so can’t access an article on him. (I’ve used up my quota of free NYT articles researching various things).

Now I know how to reverse search an image!

I wonder if he was Irish - but I was 'right' in that I thought he didn't have long to live {but assumed TB there}. Will look into him online, if poss.

You’re welcome. You did better than me. I didn’t like his picture, thought it was creepy, but maybe I misinterpreted my uneasy feelings. He is a tragic figure but not a bad guy as far as I know.

Pugh is a Welsh name so the Welsh nationality would make sense.

I did too. ‘Killer’ was what I thought. I too read and watch a lot of mystery/crime type stuff. I guess we’re naturally wary and suspicious!

The author of these three long poems was a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines who was accidentally killed in 1944 at the age of twenty-two.

King Sobieski is a dramatic poem, in blank verse and other measures, about the Polish saviour of Vienna and Europe from the Turks.

In Dr Faustus the ancient necromancer reappears in the Europe of 1936 onwards, and once again is doomed beyond redemption by his own spiritual falsity.

The Masque of Norbury Park was the only one completed of a projected series of masques after the manner of Ben Jonson, whom Raoul Pugh held in special veneration.
