You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

So chez Feisty school we have a basket idea - made up from two in-school mock exams, three in-class tests, NEAs and final summer exams. I am a marking machine!

Thanks for the new thread Staff!

Vaccinated today - moderna!

ArnottsUnderpass · 15/04/2021 22:09

Hurrah for new thread. Maybe by the 60th thread I'll have been jabbed too 😁

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/04/2021 22:12

Thanks staff.

Just posted this in the Broom Cupboard:

NI to start asking close contacts to get a PCR within 48 hrs, continue isolating for 10 days whatever the result.

And the TES obviously heard R4’s BMJ interview this morning like me, re ventilation and the consequences of govt not emphasising its importance:

Woohoo Carrie get you, Moderna! Glitterball

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/04/2021 22:17

Ooh, Moderna! First I've heard of! Did you know you were getting it?

StaffRepFeistyClub · 15/04/2021 22:26

@CarrieBlue - well done

A colleagues wife was one of the first to get it here on Tuesday but wasn’t expecting it to still being used today necessarily, but it was. I think there was a different option for secind doses as all the ‘oldies’ were directed to a different queue. I’m quite glad it’s moderna because I was excited about the new mRNA technology used (geeky science teacher alert!) but a bit annoyed I can’t prove a point by having AZ! To be honest, I’d have taken any vaccine for anything - I feel much lighter already.

HarrietDVane · 15/04/2021 22:37

Thanks Staff!

Oooh, I haven't heard of anyone getting Moderna yet! Do you feel ok?

noblegiraffe · 15/04/2021 22:39

Thanks for the new thread, Staff

OooOoh fancy Carrie, you got the Dolly Parton vaccine!

Jan you should work for the TES, ahead of the journalists on that news!

CarrieBlue · 15/04/2021 22:41

I feel fine Harriet, a bit like the cat might have scratched my arms but nothing worse than that - yet!

I’d forgotten it was Dolly’s vaccine noble - that’s even more exciting than the mRNA!

HarrietDVane · 15/04/2021 22:56

I'm still trying to book a date around DH's work schedule and within sensible striking distance of home. DH is also wobbling over the AZ thing and it's not helping. He is normally the rational one too! Sad

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/04/2021 22:57

We beat the education press on these threads noble!

Anyone else had to discard a test because the liquid solution seems to somehow ‘disappear’ so there’s hardly anything to squeeze out of the plastic thing onto the test strip? Have had it happen twice to me now, can’t fathom it! I definitely squeezed the stuff into the tube, swirled swab as usual, closed lid. Then.... nothing really came out. Well, enough to turn the strip in the little well darker but not enough to start the redness going up, definitely not reaching the C line or even the T one.

ArnottsUnderpass · 15/04/2021 23:00

Yes!! I've had this. Had to borrow some "Covid juice" from the eldest's school kits.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/04/2021 23:10

So you added extra solution to yr tube Guy/Arnott? Not sure if that’s kosher? (Non-scientist, so what do I know!)

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/04/2021 23:21

But very good to know am not the only one

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/04/2021 23:37

Thanks for thread!

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/04/2021 01:23

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread.

I love that you're all geeky about your fancy moderna vaccine Carrie. That's just what we need, more enthusiasm about the science!!! And the fact it's Dolly's vaccine. I do love Dolly!! 🤩🌟

MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 04:15

I nearly went to Dollywood once... but it's eyewateringly expensive. I love Dolly.
I don't live knee pain, ankle pain and my mum snoring...

motherrunner · 16/04/2021 06:02

Thanks for the new thread @StaffRepFeistyClub.

@MrsHamlet Have you managed more sleep? How you feeling now?

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/04/2021 06:09

Hope everyone in pain feels better soon!

Exciting about moderna Carrie! I’ve got my second jab booked for Sunday afternoon... that will be 9 weeks between the two.

Am knackered due to sleeping on floor next to puppy! Obvs he is now still asleep and I’m sat next to him waiting for him to wake up. It’s like having a baby 🤣

echt · 16/04/2021 06:11

I had the first round of AZ last week. No side effects. I got it by virtue of immune suppression, so was up there with the 70+ year=olds and meat packers.

motherrunner · 16/04/2021 06:19

If anyone wants a good laugh there’s a thread in AIBU is response to the NHS eliminating the word ‘woman’ from its literature so surely the word ‘man’ needs to be replaced. The responses are hilarious!

DreamingofBrie · 16/04/2021 06:21

Thank you for the new thread.

First day back teaching for me today. Am prepped and I like the kids but feel very meh about it. My youngest dc is getting such negative feedback in his book for some subjects, he had another meltdown about it last night when I spoke to him. Wish I knew how to turn this around (I know it's going to take endless patience).

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 16/04/2021 07:09

Cheers staff
I'm going to a pub tonight without children. How many drinks til I'm on the floor?
