You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Aha! Think I need to get out more.

noblegiraffe · 16/04/2021 14:46

What were we just talking about the other day? Just reading a thread where parent after parent insists they don’t check their kid’s phone because they have a right to privacy. What can schools do to make it clear the sorts of things that they have to deal with as a result?

motherrunner · 16/04/2021 14:56

I think it was Lola who perfectly put it when she said parents wouldn’t let a stranger sit in their child’s room but would happily let them have unsupervised social media.

I read an interview with Nadia (Bake Off winner) who said at a certain time all the family out their phones in a basket so no phones in bedrooms etc. Thierry has to be a point where we ensure our children have down time and not feel the have to speak to their friend THIS INSTANT.

I can recommend Salem Sue (North Dakota - giant cow), the international vinegar museum (South Dakota), the funeral museum (Houston), the petroleum museum (Midland Texas), the ornamental metal museum (Memphis) and USS Batfish (Oklahoma). The original KFC is okay if you're going that way. I love funny museums.

Mums are awesome. Mind has bought me Lardy cake and Lego :)

Lardy cake 😬 Although it does take me bake to going into Firkins with my dad and he would buy a piece for himself and an egg custard for my brother and myself 🤤

the international vinegar museum

I’d gladly go 100 km out of my way for that!

Waves at everyone. Thanks staff

ChloeDecker · 16/04/2021 17:01

We have the National Fan Museum right here in Greenwich! It’s edge of your seat stuff.

MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 17:17

The funeral museum was arguably more interesting than NASA...

RigaBalsam · 16/04/2021 17:37

Oh and as per the title we called in tiggy. When den was on a wall we called on tiggy on high.
My ex husband used to call it tick and off ground tick.

Hope all is well with you all. I haven't posted in a while.

I genuinely read “I like fanny museums.”
MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 18:30

I've never been to a fanny museum Jan but if you find one to incorporate into the road trip, I'll happily go 🤣

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 18:32

Oh and can I just point out that someone on the thread about fantasies involving fictional characters (which is a bit of an eye opener - although I cannot agree with the OP’s taste AT ALL) has stated that lots of people would go for Cillian Murphy’s character in Peaky Blinders but not for Cillian. Wish there was a Like button on MN..... (ducks)

Love it!

I am so hoping that BoJo gets rid of that inadequate tosser in a sept reshuffle. The problem is that no other department wants as he is such a half wit

A funeral museum would be fascinating IMO. Good for your anthropology Honey!

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/04/2021 19:26

I'm now 'that teacher' who calls in sick after a parent's evening. I'm remembering someone mentioning one and paranoid school will think I'm off ill because it was parent's evening I think that was me who mentioned it. As long as you haven't done it for EVERY parents evening for at least a year, nobody will think anything of the timing. I would assume people would just hope you feel better soon, as this is a one off. Flowers

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/04/2021 19:31

@ChloeDecker

We have the National Fan Museum right here in Greenwich! It’s edge of your seat stuff.
We have a Pencil museum in Keswick. I think that's almost as interesting as your fan museum.

I've found a fanny museum. It's in Camden. www.vaginamuseum.co.uk/

MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 19:39

The pencil museum is pretty good! Can you organise a trip to the fanny museum please MrsAD. I can get on the bus at Forton or the train at Lancaster.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/04/2021 19:40

I offer you Barometer World which probably rates up there with the fan museum.

Just to brighten your weekend, here’s replacing isolating with LFTs making a reappearance.

Cracklefraggle · 16/04/2021 19:56

Ooh Jan I LOVE those! I reckon I can get away with them in secondary - animal prints for the quirky Biology teacher Grin

Going to probably spend a fortune there after a few more glasses Wine

Crazy week!
