You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I’d love to go to Dollywood - especially now! Feels like I’ve got a patch of sunburn on the top of my arm and I’m shattered, but it’s Friday and my day off so I think tiredness is more likely that than vaccine.

PumpkinPie2016 · 16/04/2021 08:07

Thanks staff

Checking in!

Good news about your vaccine @CarrieBlue I don't know anyone else who has had moderna yet.

Back to school on Monday for me - starting to feel quite anxious about it Sad which is unusual for me. Trying to make sure I get enough info into my Y11s and Y13s before their final papers. Not exactly looking forward to all the marking either.

Also have appraisal mid way reviews coming up so need to collate all of my evidence in one place.

MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 08:15

Let's add Dollywood to our road trip. We can go walking into the Great Smoky Mountains and stay in Pigeon Forge.

I'm supposed to meet my dad and aunt for a walk today. I think it's going to be a walk to a cafe!

ChloeDecker · 16/04/2021 08:53

Thanks Staff!

Great news on the jabs Carrie and echt Grin
Hopefully get mine soon.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 08:53

So you can walk then Mrs H? Good. What’s Pigeon Forge?

MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 08:56

I can hobble... my huge grazed knee and swollen ankle are on different legs so it's quite amusing.
Pigeon Forge is the Vegas of Tennessee. It's gaudy to say the least.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/04/2021 09:02

Reserving spot

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/04/2021 09:12

We're certainly getting around on our road trip, aren't we? I wholeheartedly approve of adding Dollywood to the itinerary, and Pigeon Forge sounds interesting (I like gaudy, I'm a simple soul)

Interviewedundercaution · 16/04/2021 09:13

Isn't this the 46th, not 56th thread?

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 09:26

I’m not so keen on gaudy..... Think I’m still recovering from a holiday my ex dragged me on 20 years ago staying at La Playa des Americas, Tenerife. (Oh if only I’d seen the signs back then!)

Mistressinthetulips · 16/04/2021 09:27

Found you, I was wondering if I had killed the last thread with my CBeebies talk.

motherrunner · 16/04/2021 09:57

Forgot to say, love the title @StaffRepFeistyClub. This half term will be “fun”.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 10:57

To be fair, I could probably cope with gaudy (and accept the cultural enrichment experience!) in the company of supportive friends... just not a manipulative boundary-pushing ba like him!

Beachhuts90 · 16/04/2021 11:14

Thanks for the new thread!

DanglingMod · 16/04/2021 11:15

Thanks for the new thread, Staff.

Signing back in with a name reversion.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 11:17

Incorrect number of asterisks there.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 11:19

Going “old skool” (🤮 - that phrase) Dangling?

Appuskidu · 16/04/2021 11:20

Thank you for the new thread! Hope those of you who’ve been off this week have had a relaxing one.

noblegiraffe · 16/04/2021 11:28

Investigation shows that Pigeon Forge has a Titanic museum with a faithful replica of the grand staircase, therefore it counts as a historical and educational trip (and we can pretend to be Kate Winslet).

I'm not sure what a Titanic museum is doing in Tennessee.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/04/2021 11:41

Can you just let me sleep in on Pigeon Forge day? I'll hang at the hotel and have a late breakfast and early liquid lunch.

I'm now 'that teacher' who calls in sick after a parent's evening. I'm remembering someone mentioning one and paranoid school will think I'm off ill because it was parent's evening. Woke up early hours with an explosive stomach. Trying to write cover between dashes to the bathroom is hard work!

Definitely one of the downsides of teaching that you can't just be ill, you have to be ill, up at the crack of dawn to text the right numbers and then able to write cover for all of your lessons and email it in in time for them to be able to sort it before registration. Good deterrent for taking the day off.

Loving the thread title.

cornercupboard · 16/04/2021 12:30

I've had the disappearing juice issue twice, Jan, both for DC's tests as well. It's bizarre, isn't it.
Taking DH for his 2nd Pfizer this afternoon. Whoop!

chocolateisavegetable · 16/04/2021 13:08

Congratulations Carrie

Thanks Staff and ... tag, you're it ...

borntobequiet · 16/04/2021 13:28

I'm not sure what a Titanic museum is doing in Tennessee.

I think it’s in Notes From a Big Country Bill Bryson describes random “attractions” across the USA, particularly in the Midwest, the idea being to bring visitors to places where they might not otherwise venture. I think one was a giant pig (but I may have made that up). A Titanic museum seems entirely sensible in the light of this.
I was skimming the thread BTW and thought - Pigeon Forge Day, hadn’t heard of that...

StaffRepFeistyClub · 16/04/2021 13:33

@Interviewedundercaution

Isn't this the 46th, not 56th thread?
Nope I got the number wrong time 🙄
