You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

How do you go to the toilet?

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 20:04

noble, always the voice of reason!

Thanks to whoever posted the daily contact testing stuff, well, I’m not saying it’s made my evening but interesting to see how dire the guidance is.....

ArnottsUnderpass · 16/04/2021 20:04

Southport has a lawnmower museum 😁

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 20:05

I need to espouse billowing dungarees as I can fit into very few of my school clothes atm Confused

CallmeHendricks · 16/04/2021 20:14

I succumbed to the inevitable and have invested in the next size up. Tried to ignore it for as long as I could, but couldn't bear the discomfort every evening of tight waistbands.

Currently stressing about ddog. He had major surgery this week and is in a bit of a sorry state. Wine is helping (me, not him).

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/04/2021 20:26

@CallmeHendricks sorry to hear that. Hope he recovers quickly x

noblegiraffe · 16/04/2021 20:26

Hope your dog recovers quickly, Ange

And well done for investing in the economy with your new purchases. I supported a local retailer today by buying donuts.

Mistressinthetulips · 16/04/2021 20:29

I love the fabric of those dungarees but only if used for something else! I'd buy them, feel all floaty and nice and then one of the men (young or old) I live with would make a comment or laugh and I know they'd end up in the back of the wardrobe!
Have a very annoying tickly cough and feel pretty rough. Went along for a Covid test earlier so waiting for the results of that. I'm guessing not Covid but still means I've been able to pick up a virus somewhere! And I'm not even back at work

CallmeHendricks · 16/04/2021 20:35

He's wagging his tail now, and getting up to greet us when we come in, so that's good.
Have had to dig out the cone of shame, however, as he was scratching. Made dh take it off when he took him out for his prescribed 5 mins walk (for a dog who usually romps through 2 hours a day!) in case the other dogs laughed at him.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/04/2021 20:37

I got on the scales today, and my solid '1kg every 10 days' loss has stopped over the holidays. Provably be good to get back no some sort of order.

I've also done no work at all yet. Hoping the fear will kick in before 10pm Sunday night.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/04/2021 20:42

Thanks MsAD. It’s my first sick day this school year so should be ok Wink

Feeling lots better and stomach seems to have settled. Really want to go to the gym tomorrow so I hope it stays that way.

Hope ddog is ok callme.

I watched all 8 episodes of modern love on Amazon today. Really nice and sentimental and I cried at a couple. I don’t like collections of short stories in literature but it works for tv for me somehow. Maybe because you can build a character and form attachments quicker in film.

Tired but need to stay awake to see ds get in safe. 9.30pm at latest. Another rock and roll Friday night

motherrunner · 16/04/2021 20:50

Just read that Helen McRory has passed away read the tribute Damien Lewis wrote for her. What an amazing actress. I don’t usually get sentimental over celebrities but this has really touched me.

CallmeHendricks · 16/04/2021 20:57

The bbc news at 6 made mention of Helen McCrory, but the reporter clearly forgot who she was married to, as he said "her husband, the actor....... paid tribute to his wife...."

motherrunner · 16/04/2021 21:03

That’s embarrassing and also quite disrespectful.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/04/2021 21:10

On the anthropology front I’m reworking a unit of work for part of my appraisal targets and I get to do some stuff on Africa before the empire.

Currently it’s a bit like: here’s a list of kingdoms that we can whizz over and say see Africa wasn’t the uncivilised place people made out in the propaganda at the time.

I want to add in there African pre colonial literature and oral traditions and dance, music and art etc of different African peoples for them to see the richness of culture and teaching there was.

I want them to have a real picture of Africa as a place of diverse cultures and ways of life with a long rich history before we look at the slave trade.

It’s giving my anthropologist side some enjoyment.

Monkeytennis97 · 16/04/2021 21:10

Thanks Staff!

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 21:10

I hate reading short stories too Honey

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/04/2021 21:12

Are you going to refer to Black Panther honey? That’s what some kids will think of.

Beachhuts90 · 16/04/2021 21:12

Those dungarees are adorable. They're making me contemplate how many dinosaur outfits one person might need in her life.

You guys have been to some amazingly unique places in America! We never went on road trips when I was a kid growing up there but I'm not sure we would have stopped anyway.

HerdyGerdy · 16/04/2021 21:16

Checking in. Amazed that when discussing to the fanny museum, no-one was considering a trip to Iceland's penis museum!

Poor Helen McCrory - so young. I've only seen her in the HP films I think - never got round to watching Peaky Blinders.

MrsHamlet · 16/04/2021 22:45

I don't understand the practicality of jumpsuits but I want the flamingo one.

Where is the carrot museum?

Why is mr Hendricks wearing the cone of shame?

Would anyone fancy the state penitentiary at Angola, Louisiana? That was an interesting day trip.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/04/2021 23:36

@thehoneybadger - get them to listen to You're Dead to Me about the Asanti empire. Was cool. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p097d63q

TheHoneyBadger · 17/04/2021 07:10

No tv license rule so can’t listen. Thanks though. Maybe the school has a sign in.

Was hoping to lie in as I’ve not had much sleep this week but it’s not to be.

motherrunner · 17/04/2021 07:52

@TheHoneyBadger I think you can get that programme as a podcast so wouldn’t need a TV license.
