I'll pop a link in the old one so you know where to find safe haven. I have tried to clear out some space by getting rid of the ohp and vcr trolley and gin is hidden behind the sick sand bucket.

Gove is a close contact after his Porto trip to see the footy, is now helping trial the serial test instead of isolate model....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/06/2021 10:00

Is it bad that I hope that that trial fails by causing a Westminster outbreak, proving how stupid the whole idea. I don’t think anyone necessarily needs another reason to hate give though.

U.K. government removes Portugal from green list to protect us from the rising cases of Indian variant all our tourists took there is typical handling of covid 19 in the U.K. Who could possibly have foreseen that.

CarrieBlue · 04/06/2021 10:07

And no surprises here:

www.theguardian.com/education/2021/jun/03/india-covid-variant-spreading-in-englands-schools-and-colleges-data-shows

“ Prof Christina Pagel, director of University College London’s clinical operational research unit, said the figures were evidence that schools were now “a major source” of transmission, after the government last month dropped its requirement for secondary school pupils to wear masks in classrooms.”

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 10:10

Interesting that the papers are actually reporting it this time, when they refused to last time.

Course he is Hmm
JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 10:41

Yesnoble, is it simply that the govt’s stupidity in early Jan (“schools are safe”.... 24 hrs later “we need to close all schools”) has actually helped, because now the press won’t swallow “children don’t get it” etc?

Rafa, that thought re Gove spreading it (perhaps even Nepalese variant as that’s one of our stated reasons for limiting Portuguese travel) to all the Cabinet has crossed my mind....

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2021 10:45

When you say 'the papers' you ought to note it is The commieGuardian about which there is much sneering on MN, even on the data thread. The Times is not reporting it. Whole article on the PHE report yesterday and hospitalisations. Didn't mention schools.

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 10:52

I was thinking of the Daily Mail ‘epidemic of the young’ article yesterday too. Think of when the infection rates were highest by far in secondary kids and it was barely ever even mentioned. That they are even talking about kids is unusual.

ChloeDecker · 04/06/2021 10:53

It’s because the only thing papers seem to be most worried about is holidays and travel at the moment. Who cares about transmission rates in schools when they have already been conditioned to believe that it doesn’t exist?!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/06/2021 10:55

I thought Nepal were having problems with Delta.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 11:02

It’s a sub type of Delta which has a worrying bit or something....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/06/2021 11:07

Yes. Seems to be Delta with an additional mutation. Vietnam is also delta that has developed a mutation already seen in the Kent variant.

On the plus side, we’re all going to learn the Greek alphabet quite quickly. What comes after epsilon?

Maths teacher here waiting for the pi variant to confuse schoolchildren across the land. "I thought that was a number!"

So true @ChloeDecker. If I read one more quote from ‘devastated’ holidaymakers I’ll scream!
noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 11:26

I suspect we will see more about this epidemic of the young in the papers because vaccinating kids is going to be the next battleground.

Similar being Physics but miss you said alpha, beta and gamma were types of radiation.

Then theres the greek letters used in equations.

I am so delighted by this!!

motherrunner · 04/06/2021 11:55

Apparently Spain aims to vaccinate all 12+ years old before new academic year!

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 12:14

It is, as someone said earlier going to be interesting to watch Boris and Matt tie themselves in more knots as they attempt to justify their 18 mths of “Children don’t get it/ don’t transmit much (that we’re going to mention anyway)” whilst (presumably) persuading people to vaccinate their kids.....

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 12:15

Oh and little Gav

noblegiraffe · 04/06/2021 12:18

Jan U4T have had a petition up against vaccinating kids for a while now. I imagine they've been having secret meetings with the usual Tories as well to decide policy before it even makes the public domain.

They've certainly been working on public opinion on MN too.

There is already a comment on the vaccine thread that says ‘but they told us from the start kids aren’t a risk’.

@noblegiraffe has greater insight than all those over-paid twits at the DfE combined!
