I'll pop a link in the old one so you know where to find safe haven. I have tried to clear out some space by getting rid of the ohp and vcr trolley and gin is hidden behind the sick sand bucket.

Mental health-Sad. I’m on a FB group which has had a fair number of people saying their school got THE call today. That would really really tip me over the edge-I actually feel sick just thinking about it.

Does anyone know if it’s random and could be to any school or just schools that are overdue an Ofsted?

JanuaryChill · 01/02/2021 19:45

Our local primary seems to have got one actually. Did Ofsted say from 1 Feb maybe??

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/02/2021 19:48

Oh God appuskidu I have no idea how we would fare with an Ofsted right now. They can come to any of my lessons and/or look at any of the videos I'm producing and sending out, I can't do any better than I'm doing so they can come and see it if they like. Not sure SLT would cope with it though, they look incredibly stressed and broken in briefings. They seem to be shielding us staff from a lot of parental requests/complaints/negativity, but it's getting to them, along with all the governmental gubbins they've had to deal with this year. I really think Ofsted would tip at least one of them over the edge.

noblegiraffe · 01/02/2021 19:48

Could you, hypothetically of course, kick an Ofsted inspector from your live lesson?

Terribly sorry, you seem to be having technical difficulties, oh dear gone again.

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/02/2021 19:53

@MsAwesomeDragon I think in Teams you can hover over the name and it shows either the email address or real name if part of your organisation if they do that again if it helps! It’s how some of our students got caught out at another school,... we have since locked our teams down good and proper! I don’t think they can change names or come in without being signed in now... it’s saved a lot of grief!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/02/2021 20:02

I'm currently browsing holiday cottages for late August on the principle that
a - things with the vaccine should have improved a lot by then, a cottage holiday is self contained and if we were able to release restrictions enough to holiday in the uk last year without a vaccine, we should be able to do it this year.
but mostly
b - because bloody Mark Drakeford was quoted in a newspaper as wanting schools to be in a position to invite some learners back from the school holidays early!

No clue as to who will be staffing this but I aim to be busy!

TheHoneyBadger · 01/02/2021 20:03

I have google meet link for each of my google classrooms. You have to be a member of the classroom to get in. I do recorded lessons then sit in the google meet during the lesson time available to help anyone who joins.

Don't think you can crash the meet and it wouldn't be very rewarding if you could as it'll either be silence or me and one other student discussing the work.

Ofsted would be a total piss take imo but I wouldn't change anything.

We've just had some kids work out that they can get invited to teams and then appear as guests. But it says (guest) which gives it away.
I do wonder why they expend so much energy on arsing around.

Anyone else seen this? twitter.com/globalhlthtwit/status/1356161671643992064?s=19

RandomGrammarPun · 01/02/2021 21:10

Are our kids a bit more switched on then? They were doing all of that and more on the first week of January but the Head was called into the classroom virtually or actually each time to keep the naughty kids "behind." They got bollocked, then got a phone call home. It's all stopped now and they're actually learning

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 01/02/2021 21:11

It is talking about that main study that everyone quoted to justify closing schools - researching temporary closures results in years of life lost.
Anyway, apparently they got their maths wrong, had to redo it, and now it doesn't show that...

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 01/02/2021 21:12

Oops justify NOT closing schools!

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 01/02/2021 21:14

And in other news - my school had loads more actually IN school than in previous week's (secondary). I'm guessing but it looks like every student that was not engaging with the remote work has been strong armed in!

RandomGrammarPun · 01/02/2021 21:16

Yeah. We can't take a single extra student in our provision. We've run out of computers.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 01/02/2021 21:29

We've had lots more in this week. Parents were fed up with the phonecalls so sending them in.

Interesting.

I presume no MS press will report this?!

MrsHamlet · 01/02/2021 21:43

That is interesting!

noblegiraffe · 01/02/2021 21:48

Ecosse was always peddling that line weren't they? That we were dramatically reducing kids' life expectancy by keeping them off school?

It did sound bollocks at the time.

JanuaryChill · 01/02/2021 21:48

I'm a bit lost... I vaguely remember a paper which said that closing schools actually prolongs the pandemic therefore more die. Is that the one?

Have had a major setback with DB's funeral arrangements today, feeling quite hurt and angry. Too complicated to explain.

I think Ecosse was on about the research on how many years of schooling equated to life expectancy - and that does seem to correlate, but it is more to do with all the underlying issues about why someone doesn't stay in education. This.was more about wholesale closures of school due to long running strikes, and after the flooding in New Orleans.

I think I can just about understand that one.... Will anyone else?

Oh to be a fly on the wall at SAGE meetings.

JanuaryChill · 01/02/2021 21:55

Oh yeah I saw on another thread that there's a thought that Surrey schools won't be able to return as early as 8 March (if anyone does) because of the SA variant which may be in circulation there.

Sorry to hear you've had set backs January. It can be really hard to arrange funerals at the best of times! The paper you are thinking of compared the scenario of closing schools versus no closing schools if there is no vaccine - so the herd immunity approach - better to get as many young ones infected as quickly nas possible.
noblegiraffe · 01/02/2021 22:00

Sorry, Jan that things aren't going smoothly. Hope it gets sorted soon. Flowers
