You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

A face mask doesn’t protect you.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 11/05/2020 20:07

Maybe we get the DfE to explain the science behind it

If I had a partner with a good income or was near enough to retirement I would be leaving. Does it get reported how many teachers resign?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 11/05/2020 20:10

@TheHoneyBadger However we are expected to wear them shopping and on public transport. It may not protect me but I will be making a point.

I will have a number of facemasks that I will change into throughout the day.

I know it doesn't honey : but it is yet another huge contradiction. School staff must not wear masks unless they normally do, but shoppers should wear them, even though they never would...

FrippEnos · 11/05/2020 20:12

Piggywaspushed

I thought that was what the London buses had already done.

I know that the numbers of drivers dying is horrific, I read somewhere that it is also the largest percentage of people as well.

I'm waiting for this one to explode..

A face mask doesn’t protect you

But it protects others which is why it should be enforced in schools.

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 20:13

They did fripp. Too little too late...

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 11/05/2020 20:17

Me toooooooo.

Appuskidu · 11/05/2020 20:19

What now, then?

The NEU said earlier today that schools should not plan for reopening until they had more information and teachers should not reply saying they are available for further reopening, on union advice, but...

The guidance is now there. It’s going to be shit.

What now?!

HipTightOnions · 11/05/2020 20:20

(Can I join you please? I was on that horrible thread and need to take refuge!)

Have you noticed that the guidance for parents has a section called “latest scientific advice” - reassuring that children are unlikely to become very unwell - but both documents are silent about their role in transmission?

RigaBalsam · 11/05/2020 20:22

They don't know about transmission I got the impression Vallance didn't want to give June 1st as a date but I could be reading into that incorrectly.

SallyLovesCheese · 11/05/2020 20:26

I'm feeling really upset now.

How come? How come all these things are important for everyone except when it comes to schools? How come the science behind viral load is being ignored?

I'm getting scared. If I end up in hospital (let alone anything worse) my DH suffers with terrible anxiety so he'll have to find somewhere to stay with our DC. Which will probably be my elderly parents, so we'd be risking their lives too. I can't quit, I work and DH is a SAHD.

I can't quite believe they're saying "Do this and this, but not if you work in a school".

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 20:27

I've reported the pay thread too, but the irony is that I will probably be deleted for my furious rant before the thread is.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 20:28

So, I can wear a face mask to protect the children (as long as it doesn't scare them) but they don't have to wear them to protect me?
Great.

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 20:28

We need our own soothing emoji.

How about Bear for a cuddle.

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 20:30

What speaks volumes hips is they are silent on why they are so plainly unkeen to send children over 12 back...

The unions need to ask about this in middle school areas.

Sureitwillbegrand · 11/05/2020 20:33

Reported pay thread. Question has been answered so shut it down now. I have always been the quiet one in the corner but I am getting fed up of this.

Cyberworrier · 11/05/2020 20:41

Not sure if this has already been posted here, the NEU advice to members...
Will people follow their advice? Will SLT be following their guidance? Arg brain melting. I have handed in notice, not coming back in September. Only part time and have always combined teaching with other stuff.
