Could we ask MN for no more teacher bashing threads do you think?

It's hard enough without being told we're "twiddling thumbs"
I'm really, honestly trying so hard right now. And I'm sure thousands more are as well.
I don't want to make excuses or feel sad for myself or start championing us, but can we just have a break please?
MN is full of arguments against us, angry justifications of opinions from both sides.
I understand why people are frustrated, but could we ask MN for people to take a break, please Sad

I think criticism where deserved is fine. Does seem some teachers are enjoying a nice long holiday on full pay. Sorry.

crosser62 · 11/04/2020 21:25

I agree, think you are all bloody fantastic.

If it helps, I’m a critical care nurse and have been called pathetic and ripped limb from limb on a thread recently for enjoying a day off! So there’s no one safe from bashing at the moment.

I think you are doing amazing Flowers

Puppybum · 11/04/2020 21:26

I'm not going to say anything nasty about teachers, they are going through some stressful stuff right now. But the teachers I went to school with were all nasty wicked bastards

Mrstwiddle · 11/04/2020 21:26

Honestly, they’re ridiculous. I wouldn’t even engage with people who are either clueless, envious or just plain stupid. ignore them!

OhioOhioOhio · 11/04/2020 21:29

It always amazes me why there aren't so many more applicants for teacher training, seeings as its such an easy option.

FrippEnos · 11/04/2020 21:31

And that is it right there.

noblegiraffe · 11/04/2020 21:34

1st reply suggests this is doomed.

Useruseruserusee · 11/04/2020 21:34

Apart from anything else, does Viviennemary actually think anyone is enjoying themselves right now? No matter what their job is?

Tonyaster · 11/04/2020 21:37

The teachers on that thread seem perfectly able to stick up for themselves. I think there is one dissenting poster who is being systematically ripped apart.

managedmis · 11/04/2020 21:39

OK - if you're exempt, I am too

Viviennemary · 11/04/2020 21:42

No. I apologise,. Not many people are enjoying this. But I was annoyed when I think of nurses and doctors risking their lives. And I've not contributed to any teacher bashing threads. But I have read here that some schools are making an effort to set work and some have just a link to a few websites.

FrippEnos · 11/04/2020 21:46

Viviennemary

But once again we are into 'that is all teachers do'

Teachers will have been, rewriting work for the purpose of home ed.
Rewriting SoW for next year.
Sorting out tracking, PPG, SEND, so they can fully differentiate work when they go back.
Sorting out what and how they should be sorting out year 11 marks.
Working on a rota in school. (you know giving up holiday time).

etc.
etc.
etc.

pinkrocker · 11/04/2020 22:00

Do you think MN could potentially intervene, that's what I was asking. Perhaps it's because I am a teacher myself, these threads are what stand out for me in the active conversation thread.
I have been on MN for 15 years I think, and adore lots of things, the threads about pregnancy, the hilarious MN classic threads, style and beauty etc. It's just right now I feel we're being publicly vilified and it's upsetting.

I'm a teacher and these threads, particularly the CV-related ones, have tapped a rich vein of hostility and stupidness. Over the years I've found the ones that annoy are the ones titled "teachers", when the fuck-witted/goady OP is referring to one teacher.

I don't think MNHQ needs to step in, teachers quite capable of taking on these types.

I'm waiting for the outpouring that will be occasioned by this:

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/11/call-for-schools-to-open-in-the-summer-after-lockdown

echt · 11/04/2020 22:20

"are" Grrrr.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 11/04/2020 22:23

Teachers are doing what their school leaders have instructed them to do. It is not the teacher deciding how to set work or what to do to support students. Teachers have not asked for this situation and believe me, I would rather be in schoolAngry

echt · 11/04/2020 22:29

This.

I'm in Australia and don't even start on-line teaching proper until next week and already I'd rather be in the building.

Whichroomtovisit · 11/04/2020 22:34

Can I ask, without angering anyone...
What are teachers doing at the moment? Maybe people would be more understanding if they understood it.
In my case (primary child so teacher of 25) we were given twinkle worksheets on the last day and no contact since, should I be expecting contact after Easter? Are teachers planning to move to online learning in general? Is this it and we are on our own now?
Only 5 KEy worker kids in actual school in our case so I know he’s not there...
I’m not stating teachers, I respect them a lot more after this homeschooling attempt but I keep hearing people say how busy they are and I don’t know with what/what to expect...

echt · 11/04/2020 22:38

There you go, Whichroomtovisit, you have an issue with your child's provision but turn into what are teachers doing?

It's simple. Ask your child's school if nothing turns up on day 1.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/04/2020 22:42

I wonder whether furlough on 80% pay might be better.

Then we can legitimately do nothing.

I'm sick of being told I'm doing nothing when that's so far from the truth.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/04/2020 22:43

What are teachers doing at the moment?

There's no one answer to this question as it varies from school to school. The best thing to do, rather than to ask on here, is to email your DC's school and ask them directly what they have put in place to support their students. Then you will know what to expect.

ScorpionQueen · 11/04/2020 22:46

Does seem some teachers are enjoying a nice long holiday on full pay. Sorry.
Fucksake.
Yeah, because teachers aren't effected by what's going on at all. They're just reaping the benefits. Hmm

QuaffthisKindNepenthe · 11/04/2020 22:47

It's Saturday night. Easter weekend. My youngest's teacher has been uploading stuff to ClassDojoand ActiveLearn all evening and just emailed through corrections to their written homework

woodlands01 · 11/04/2020 22:48

Teacher here too. Spend my day in front of computer trying to help and chase up students remotely. Horrendous. I will not be engaging with any sort of teaching through Skype/zoom and thankfully my school agree and do not promote this. I do tutor one-to-one through Skype. Don't give a shit about teacher bashing threads. Do it, try it if it's so easy. That's from some-one whose worked in industry before. I've a job for life here - Maths teacher. Do I care what you think? No chance, I do my best, my students do well. Full stop.

Mistressiggi · 11/04/2020 22:49

Even before all this, I've reported threads to HQ and asked for a break from the wide-eyed, "this is not a teacher bashing thread" type of goady shit that rolls round every time there is a holiday. They will delete the odd post but not threads. I've even flounced over this, but it clearly didn't last! Massively disheartening.
