Could we ask MN for no more teacher bashing threads do you think?

It's hard enough without being told we're "twiddling thumbs"
I'm really, honestly trying so hard right now. And I'm sure thousands more are as well.
I don't want to make excuses or feel sad for myself or start championing us, but can we just have a break please?
MN is full of arguments against us, angry justifications of opinions from both sides.
I understand why people are frustrated, but could we ask MN for people to take a break, please Sad

@Yellowshirt three that I know of no longer have marking days. I love that you don't answer any questions and change your focus with every post grabbing on to any bit of anything!

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/04/2020 02:07

@Tw1nset which board?

Tw1nset · 12/04/2020 02:07
  • @Tw1nset which board*

Eduqas

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 02:07

Agreed, Purplesky. I'm genuinely asking about the holidays and they're ignoring me!

It's all very well saying something is wrong and should be changed, but to have no ideas as to how...!

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:08

Hats off to anyone who takes on exam marking. Summer term is so manic you deserve every last penny!

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 02:10

Ah, Jimmy, I'm sad we may not have that summer term full of sports days and awards assemblies and all the chaos that goes with the end of the year!

Yellowshirt · 12/04/2020 02:10

@Tw1nset I'm not saying for one minute teachers don't work extremely hard.
I absolutely respect what you do and I couldn't drag my 14 year old daughter towards her exams like you have.

You don't sound like you respect what we do @yellowshirt .
For some reason you seem to have some kind of bitter ill thought through agenda that wants to make teaching as hard as possible. I don't expect you to care about me personally but if teachers are overworked children lose out.

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:13

sally yes me too. I’m devastated for my class and for our year 6 cohort. It was heartbreaking to see the penny drop for them in the last week of school.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/04/2020 02:14

@JimmyGrimble I enjoy the exam marking despite the fact I have no life for a few weeks. I am a single mum and without it would not be able to take my son on holiday - the £750 gives us a break. I also think it makes me a much better teacher as I understand more and can see what kids need to do. I also love the stats at the end to see how accurate I was!

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:15

yellowshirt have a read through your posts on this thread. Respectfully, they don’t make it sound as if you do respect what we do at all.

Tw1nset · 12/04/2020 02:15

My summer marking pays for our summer holiday and I am not ashamed to say that is my primary motivation. It does enhance our teaching but it also enhances my holiday.

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:18

Absolutely purplesky I’m the only wage earner for my family so have to budget really carefully for extras. I’ve done bits of bar work in the past for holidays. It must be a great feeling when it’s all done! Good for you!

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:19

And you, tw1nset ... people forget that not all teachers are living high on the hog!

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 02:20

I also love the stats at the end to see how accurate I was!

Ooh, you get stats? I love a good spreadsheet or line graph! That'd be my favourite bit!

Yellowshirt · 12/04/2020 02:22

@Tw1nset so your overworked?
Why because I don't agree with teachers holidays do I have an agenda? I don't at all. I understand the pressure and crap you deal with everyday and also someone mentioned Ofsted earlier.
Every job in the world has some pressure though

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 02:25

@Yellowshirt

Because you haven't given a good reason why teachers should have 13 weeks' unpaid holiday? Therefore your posts are just moaning we have "too much" without stopping to think of the reasons we're not paid 13 weeks of the year?

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 02:26

Why we shouldn't, I mean.

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:32

yellowshirt what do you do? Tell us about the pressures in your profession. I’m genuinely interested. tw1nset said that she works harder for a limited time so she can see the benefit for her family. Is that wrong? She didn’t say that she is ‘overworked’ and she certainly wasn’t moaning about it!

Tw1nset · 12/04/2020 02:36

As a rule I don't think I am overworked but I am fortunate that my school is generally sensible and I have enough experience to have shortcuts and not be constantly reinventing the wheel.

You also didn't just mention holidays.

I don't really have a problem with OFSTED, I am a fan of the new framework. I don't really deal with crap everyday either.

roundtable · 12/04/2020 02:50

Well this was a horrible read when I woke up from not being able to sleep.

It would never occur to me to judge a whole profession by a few people.

If you have an issue with what your child's school is providing - take it up with the school. Please don't generalise it's hurtful and it's been constant on this site recently.

So much hate and spite at a time when we should be supporting each other the best we can. It's really sad.

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 02:52

Just did a little search ... yellowshirt’s ex wife is a teacher... the penny drops!

Yellowshirt · 12/04/2020 02:58

@JimmyGrimble so now you should understand I do respect teachers.

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 03:04

Jimmy, thanks for searching, interesting! It now makes sense why they have an axe to grind about our holidays, pay and pensions and aren't really responding to anyone's questions or prepared to engage in a debate.

Yellowshirt · 12/04/2020 03:16

@SallyLovesCheese I've not avoided anything or any debates.
Of course teachers holidays could change. Even kids get bored and fed up during the summer holidays because of the length of time off.
