You know we say certain people read these threads. ...
I've just been listening to a round up of PR fails discussed by Kinsey Schofield and Charlotte G string while doing my ironing.
Nothing that hasn't been discussed here, but amusing to have all the worst ones in one place.

Continuing my thoughts about the £20k book and its potential provenance. I wonder whether it came from a clear out of Frogmore - boxes left by Eugenie when they moved out (I’m presuming they no longer live there?) were then stored at Royal Lodge and then cleared out from there when it was vacated. Books may well have been sold on to the book trade - serious book retailers would then have passed on unsuitable stock or non-valuable signed books to a company specialising in this sort of thing as a job lot.

If they purchase a house in the Cotswolds that will take a huge whack of savings and they seem to want somewhere with huge grounds

They now have school fees for both children and I think their security has been rumoured to cost 5 million a year?

I presume they also have quite a few staff to help with all the different aspects of their lives

They also have a house in Portugal which must eat into their annual outgoings

So I would imagine their annual outgoings are at the higher end of that figure.

They don't need to pay for the house in the Cotswolds or wherever it is from savings. They can get a mortgage and keep their own money invested, which will very likey get them a better return than whatever they will have to pay on the mortgage interest repayments.

It's not a great look, whichever way it happened, I guess (if it's authentic). It just says, 'unwanted tat got rid of in a clear-out'.

I can't remember either if Eugenie lives at Frogmore or KP or not. I think Charles pays her rent on a crown estate / grace-and-favour place in London, for when she's not at the Portugal development with Mr Tequila.

I agree jeff, but if the Queen wanted to be escorted into Philip's memorial service, what was wrong with Charles, Anne or Edward doing it?

Remembering she also responded to the Epstein revelations by splashing Andrew with yet another decoration (GCVO I think), it perhaps wasn't the wisest choice

Oh I agree puzzled , It wasn’t a good look but it is one of the few decisions that I can’t really be fussed about 🤷‍♀️ , maybe as another poster mentioned that he wasn’t supposed to escort her all the way, maybe she needed him to , maybe he took the liberty 🤷‍♀️

A couple of things I disagree with there!

The 'rumoured 5 million' refers to round the clock high level security. Given the amateurish look of their security doods, batting away random passersby just going about their day on the streets of New York, I doubt they're paying that much.

I presume they also have quite a few staff to help with all the different aspects of their lives

Again, given the shambolic nature of their lives, I doubt they have much by way of 'staff'. Housekeepers and nannies, yes, but that's pretty standard for even 'ordinary' wealthy people.

They also have a house in Portugal which must eat into their annual outgoings

No evidence that they own a house in Portugal.

Surely they will need to pay a hefty deposit?

And I thought the house is Montecito was bought with a mortgage and they still have a substantial amount to pay on it?

When you consider the amount of work people in the UK need to do to acquire a mortgage for a small flat/terraced house, I find it hard to see how H&M can fund a mortgage on a large Cotswold estate when they already have 2 other properties, multiple business failures, substantial court costs to pay and an extravagant lifestyle. But, to be fair, I have no experience of that type of life having come from a working class background

I am pro-Royal Family and not a fan of Harry and Meghan. But just for general interest: according to this writer and researcher, the saying ‘The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb’ first appeared publicly in the 1990s, whereas the saying ’Blood is thicker than water’ is in a collection of proverbs published in 1737 (and Walter Scott quoted it in 1815).

www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/blood-is-thicker-than-water.html

Thanks Elm, that is interesting. I wondered why I had never heard the brand new one before. It's lovely (and helpful) when people quote their sources, especially if telling someone else they are wrong. We all get to learn something instead of just watching a spat.

Indeed! Although the issue wasn't really the usage, it was the post which inexplicably used it, no context. So 🤷🏼
I think @MrsDanversGlidesAgainwas just wondering what on earth they meant.

It's been widely reported that H&M bought a £6.3 million house in Portugal in 2023 and magazines like Hello & Tatler have been reporting on the renovation of it

I used to work in the secondhand online book trade.
If the book on eBay is genuine, I guess the seller is using the listing to help promote their eBay shop.
It is vastly overpriced, at most it’s worth around £200-£500 and the best way of selling a ‘unique’ inscribed book would be at a specialised book auction or to contacts in the trade. One of the best ways of assessing the price of an unusual book is to imagine who the attracted buyers will be, and how deep their pockets are. Objectively there will be very little interest by serious buyers, it will not attract signed book collectors who go for items that will increase in value, or have literary connections. The bottom has fallen out of royal memorabilia over the past couple of decades - only if it had an association with someone like QEII or KC or a key point in history such as the 1930s abdication you can imagine it selling for a few thousand, but two current minor members of the RF no way.

The seller has no other books listed over £100, so it’s very odd indeed.

Not 'reported'. Just rumoured.

All the 'articles' about their alleged home are glorified advertorials for the resort Jack Brooksbanks is shilling for. Also, if they've 'owned' this home for 3 years, isn't it odd that they didn't get around to visiting it until a few months ago?

I remember reading somewhere about Kate Middleton (as she was then known) trying to rent a flat in St Andrew’s and the landlord wanting referees and guarantors. And they said “He’s Prince William. He isn’t going to default on the rent!” So royalty still do have to jump through the hoops sometimes like the rest of us.

Yes, I think it's just an ad for Brooksbank's venture.

I'm not going to argue with you

I was just trying to make a point that I believe their annual expenditure is at the higher end of the spectrum that was quoted

If you disagree, that's fine . . . .

I don't understand, you think that Charles Spencer has to mend a leaking roof? The wedding dress belongs to William, Spencer can't hawk it round as an earner anymore.

I was thinking more about the royal palaces tbh. It’s a bit whimsical, but I was trying to understand if the suggestion that [some] staff are on aboard with a 30th anniversary event was anything more than tabloid speculation. I personally think it’s bollocks, but the Royal Collection or a similar trust could lean into an anniversary exhibition to raise money. It would need KC and William not to oppose it, but they wouldn’t necessarily need to be involved.

AutumnCrowSaysWTAF · Yesterday 12:57

I think they employ a lot of expensive staff and agencies and don't listen to them, and also that their security firm (who are very pally with Harry, apparently) are milking him for every dollar they can get out of him.

Well, in all honesty I think that would be very unlikely, for all sorts of reasons.

Royal Collection is already showing an exhibition of some of the late queen's clothes and very popular it is too. IIRC it was due to end this month and has been extended to at least February next year. I doubt they'd want to do two similar exhibitions that close together (even if they wanted to do an exhibition of Diana's clothes).

Didn't Diana sell most of her outfits at a charity auction a few months before she died?
