There were some absolutely vile threads on here.

Yes, and having deleted several threads which didn't suit about H&M - even saying no more would be allowed for a while IIRC - MNHQ allowed most of them to run

No wonder many of us kept well away from them ...

So just to change the subject back from constitutional issues to WTF HAM are doing back in the UK, I've been doing a bit of research about their finances.

Of course everything online is speculation, because no-one knows exactly how much they're worth, but this is what I've dug up (all figures are estimations)

  • Wealth - $60 million (I don't think this includes the house in Montecito which is estimated as being worth about $30 million now)
  • Annual outgoings - anything from $6-20 million (of which $2-3 million is security). But if we go with the lowest figure, that only gives them approx. 10 years of living costs on their current cash wealth.
  • Legal damages bill (to be shared between the claimants) in the ANL case - up to £34.5 million, but this still tbd. The claimants have insurance up to about £16 million, but not beyond that figure. So who will pick up that tab? Elton John has said he's not going to be stuck with it all and Harry was the driving force behind the action in the first place so ...
  • Future earnings/wealth growth potential - Harry still CIO at BetterUp ($1m pa), public speaking and appearances, As Ever (is this making any money?), inheritance of personal wealth from Charles on his passing. Anything beyond that, like Meghan's kickbacks from designers is small change.

Anything I've missed? Things don't look too rosy for them though if these figures are even half right and this very sudden move back to the UK only makes sense when you follow the $$$$.

Harry still CIO at BetterUp ($1m pa),

I don't believe that figure for a second.

Regarding the rest of your post, I do think the bulk of their wealth is Harry's inheritance and investments on that, as well as what's left over from the lucrative media deals they scored when they first went to California. Even if those were nowhere near as big as made out, they'll still have made quite a bit from them.

Looking forward, it's very hard to see where they can make serious money on any sustainable basis. Even if the Diana 'documentary' is a success, that's a one off. I doubt anyone is paying Harry big money to speak, especially after the teleprompter debacle, and as you say, Meghan's kickbacks and 'As Ever' are not big earners either.

this very sudden move back to the UK only makes sense when you follow the $$$$.

I kind of agree, but how is being in Britain going to improve their financial situation? At the very most they might get security paid but they are still left with all their other expenses and lack of income streams. If anything, being in Britain where they have to compete with actual working royals and where businesses are going to be even more cautious about getting involved with them, will make it harder for them to make serious money.

IcedPurple · Yesterday 11:05

cheezncrackers · Yesterday 11:03

Anyway, the point I was trying to make (above) is that if you follow the money, you see that in a few years' time HAM aren't going to be able to afford to pay their security bill any more - it will literally bankrupt them. So them moving back here, even temporarily, in order to put pressure on RAVEC to reinstate their security, is not just because Harry is feeling nostalgic about the UK, it's because their very financial survival depends on them getting that security reinstated. And the ANL ruling going against Harry and Co earlier this year only makes that issue more pressing ...

That, or they could accept reality. Which is that they're not actually that important and don't require round the clock high level security.

Yes, they were horrible, about the cancer, and awful accusations about William. Wise to give them a swerve.

I was particularly incensed that MNHQ allowed one related to rumours of marital infidelity to stand. Pure nasty gossip, with no evidence and definitely not in the spirit as MNHQ so often likes to say when deleting posts. I'm sure I'm not the only one who reported and complained about that thread but it was allowed to stand.

Then they're going to have to pay for it. Because RAVEC aren't going to give Harry what he thinks he deserves.

I remember one of those. Nasty gossip presented as "fact".

He’s a twat but …this once …it was his father and his mother needed support.

I agree jeff, but if the Queen wanted to be escorted into Philip's memorial service, what was wrong with Charles, Anne or Edward doing it?

Remembering she also responded to the Epstein revelations by splashing Andrew with yet another decoration (GCVO I think), it perhaps wasn't the wisest choice

Honestly, I do not live an aspirational lifestyle.

But if I saw a house with huge red bows on every window, I wouldn’t think posh, but footballers’ wives.

On the same-ish sort of note, I looked up the Compartes advent calendars. Which are hideous, and look like the things that Temu keeps trying to sell me. I assume that the chocolate is better.

This is obviously an American version, all I could find on google, but it was along these lines, from every window of a three story Cotswold stone lovey big house.

Of course hugely OTT for most of us. I have a twig circlet thing that I poke holly and ivy into every year and feel proud of my efforts. I’ve had it for at least 30 years so tell myself how frugal I am saving so much money on Christmas wreaths. Sometimes it feels a bit of a chore and one year I followed the lead of neighbours by simply tying a bunch of holly and ivy with a red ribbon and hanging that on the door.
Here’s last year’s one. lop sided Asever.

Or buy Daylesford burgers when they’re on special offer on Ocado?

Re the reasons for their return - I am imagining some crossed wires at the Highgrove visit in the summer..

Harry says: if only we lived here, we could see more of each other, wouldn’t that be nice
Charles thinks: fuck, no
Charles says: yes that would be lovely
Harry hears: if you come back everyone will apologise and you will immediately be part of the family again

Harry says: and RAVEC would have to think again, right?
Charles thinks: no way are this pair gonna get security
Charles says: I expect there would be another review, yes
Harry hears: if you come back you will get 24/7 armed security on the taxpayer

Harry says: looks like everyone’s pretty busy, huh, I guess that’s why nobody else has invited us over
Charles thinks: this man is seriously deluded
Charles says: yes there’s always something to be done
Harry hears: we can’t cope, we need you back as working royals

Harry says: and I’m really good at royal engagements aren’t I
Charles thinks: fuck, no
Charles says: yes dear boy, really really good
Harry hears: if you come back you will be working royals again

Harry says: every now and then we do talk about coming back
Charles thinks: fuck, no
Charles says: well there would have to be a lot of planning, lots to sort out, it’s a big move, probably best not to uproot the children, but you can always have a chat with the MiGs if you need any advice with your long-term plans
Harry hears: if you announce this in advance we will try to tell you what to do

The Sussexes depart
Camilla raises an eyebrow
Charles says: Harry never listens. Thank Christ they live in California.

Some eagle-eyed person (not me) has spotted that the information on the As Ever site omits the fact that the chocolates are made in a factory that handles nuts. So much for being good at detail.
