Well, that's as maybe; the point is that the poster never clarified the context nor explained her point, in spite of being asked to. She/he/they could easily have explained what they meant in the context of the thread. It wasn't really about being pro or anti anything.
Just a non sequitur.

I agree.

I would make a cluedo (or "clue", I believe, for our over t' pondies)

Not a murder version, too gory, just a social-media-death version

It was Meghan, in the white van, with Insta

But there's nothing about it that says Christmas! Though of course it's sold as a "Holiday" calendar. So why bother putting Christmas decorations on the house, or a huge Christmas tree in front of it. 🤷‍♀️

(A lot of big beautiful house type Advent calendars will have a huge red bow or wreath hanging from every window for instance. Something I've seen in real life passing through an affluent village. Did look lovely but wow - it certainly sends a certain message!)

Honestly, I do not live an aspirational lifestyle.

But if I saw a house with huge red bows on every window, I wouldn’t think posh, but footballers’ wives.

On the same-ish sort of note, I looked up the Compartes advent calendars. Which are hideous, and look like the things that Temu keeps trying to sell me. I assume that the chocolate is better.

"Parliament" isn't one person.
So it "not having a clue" makes no sense whatsoever.

Maybe a parliament of owls instead 🦉 🦉 🦉

Gifts & Homeware – Tiptree

I'm late to the advent calendar talk, but as there seem to be some jam fans on here I was going to link to my favorite Tiptree (Wilkingsons) advent calendar, last year in a festive Big Red London bus.

But they don't seem to have one on their website this year 😰They do have a remarkably nice looking liqueure advent though. £70 for 24 days of tipple! I'll take that over the jammy chocolate.

Found one,

That advent calendar illustration of their home is awful, like a cheap jigsaw from The Works. It’s surely an AI creation with a Thomas Kinkade prompt. For that price they should be using (and paying!) a human illustrator.

The vertical lines of the advent calendar's windows at the top seem to sit on the roof like a series of TV and radio masts. Really crap, cheap design.

This random post came up in my X feed. Not someone I follow so I have no opinion on whether it’s real or not. The eBay listing certainly is there but that doesn’t prove anything.

One X poster is suggesting M has inscribed the book in order to put it on E-bay and that it wasn't a present for Eug.

Wot ever. It's a bargain at £19,999.99.

So just to change the subject back from constitutional issues to WTF HAM are doing back in the UK, I've been doing a bit of research about their finances.

Of course everything online is speculation, because no-one knows exactly how much they're worth, but this is what I've dug up (all figures are estimations)

  • Wealth - $60 million (I don't think this includes the house in Montecito which is estimated as being worth about $30 million now)
  • Annual outgoings - anything from $6-20 million (of which $2-3 million is security). But if we go with the lowest figure, that only gives them approx. 10 years of living costs on their current cash wealth.
  • Legal damages bill (to be shared between the claimants) in the ANL case - up to £34.5 million, but this still tbd. The claimants have insurance up to about £16 million, but not beyond that figure. So who will pick up that tab? Elton John has said he's not going to be stuck with it all and Harry was the driving force behind the action in the first place so ...
  • Future earnings/wealth growth potential - Harry still CIO at BetterUp ($1m pa), public speaking and appearances, As Ever (is this making any money?), inheritance of personal wealth from Charles on his passing. Anything beyond that, like Meghan's kickbacks from designers is small change.

Anything I've missed? Things don't look too rosy for them though if these figures are even half right and this very sudden move back to the UK only makes sense when you follow the $$$$.

They did say that but Eden's use of 'courtiers' suggests BuckingHAM Palace wants to do something. People may expect something because Charles hasn't said he won't do anything.

Cynical me wonders if fundraisers needing to fix a few roof tiles are thinking of a thirty year anniversary exhibition of dresses etc at somewhere like KP.

AlexandraCarrington · Yesterday 10:59

Do they own that outright, or is there a mortgage on it?
The upkeep and property taxes must cost them a fair whack. Presumably there are still caretakers/grounds staff even when they aren't living there.

Their security costs are going to increase as the Hamlets grow up and want to do things independently. I wonder at what stage one or both of them will rebel and say they don't want to be followed around by a goon in a badly fitting suit.

Edited

If they purchase a house in the Cotswolds that will take a huge whack of savings and they seem to want somewhere with huge grounds

They now have school fees for both children and I think their security has been rumoured to cost 5 million a year?

I presume they also have quite a few staff to help with all the different aspects of their lives

They also have a house in Portugal which must eat into their annual outgoings

So I would imagine their annual outgoings are at the higher end of that figure.

I don't understand, you think that Charles Spencer has to mend a leaking roof? The wedding dress belongs to William, Spencer can't hawk it round as an earner anymore.

OMG this would be so brilliant. A bit niche to be sure, I'm not sure how much interest or ability to understand the jokes is out there in the wild. If only someone could manufacture a few sets we could have a Christmas meet up at a posh pub in the Cotswolds to play the game and have a few 🍷

There could be one hotel that is a bit smaller because it only has very small rooms and rent is half the others. Maybe a Chance card - swap one hotel for the half price one with small rooms.

I think this is a wonderful idea and I can throughly recommend The Wild Rabbit at Kingham and The Bull at Charlbury. I’m sure there are a few vanity games manufacturers. I’ll look into it. Everyone needs a hobby.

cheezncrackers · Yesterday 11:03

Anyway, the point I was trying to make (above) is that if you follow the money, you see that in a few years' time HAM aren't going to be able to afford to pay their security bill any more - it will literally bankrupt them. So them moving back here, even temporarily, in order to put pressure on RAVEC to reinstate their security, is not just because Harry is feeling nostalgic about the UK, it's because their very financial survival depends on them getting that security reinstated. And the ANL ruling going against Harry and Co earlier this year only makes that issue more pressing ...
