Was King Charles wrong to take a rose from Charles Spencer's bouquet?

Charles Spencer says as Diana's coffin was lowered into the ground, several people there dropped flowers on the coffin. King Charles took a rose from Charles Spencers bouquet and dropped it on Diana's coffin.

This struck me as it shows a very casual disregard for other people's feelings. This was Charles Spencers flowers, but without a thought, king Charles took mine of the flowers. And remember relationships were extremely strained between the two men.

Sometimes I think the smallest incidents like this can reveal someone's true character. It's like someone being rude to a waiter. The king just acts like no one else matters except what he wants.

What next? ….they actually had Diana’s real funeral 3 days previously….this was just a spectacle for the masses!

That's brilliant! 😂😂😂😂

OneLilacHedgehog are you really Cat Jarman? You keep starting threads about this?

Spencer is a liar, a serial adulterer and a thoroughly despicable human. He was at his sister’s funeral (whom he hadn’t spoken to in two years) with his mistress. The man is indefensible.

But the royals did not pay for the funeral. It was not a state funeral. The British government paid.
The royals only paid for the costs within Westminster abbey. That was flowers, royal family transport costs, their staff salaries who were involved e.g. sorting out royal family members clothes and details of funeral they were involved in.
The Spencers family and her estate paid for the private family service, her burial costs and the memorial.

So the royal family paid for very little.

How much?
let’s have actual figures of how much each of them paid!
im not going to take vague ramblings about what you consider very little at face value!

Because it was decided that it should be a state funeral. The public feeling at the time was against it being treated as a private matter (the Queen’s first instinct).

It was a state funeral and the government and Royal Household bore the vast majority of the costs (about £3m)

As for Frances Shand-Kidd viewing her daughter’s body. Preventing that was no doubt a felt to be a kindness, she was terribly injured and an open coffin was probably not appropriate.

It's not up to the king to decide if Diana's mother should view her daughter's body. And no Diana's body was not terribly injured. The damage was internally.

Frances Shand Kidd did not seem to have much contact with Diana when she was alive.

They were not speaking at the time of her death. I believe she was also estranged from her brother.

So why didn't Mrs Shand Kydd challenge this, if the law was on her side?

How on earth do you know that Diana's face wasnt terribly injured?

Honestly, this all screams he said, she said over moments that should be personal, private memories, not details spat out in public point scoring 🙄

You first? But you won't.

The taxpayer paid an estimated £7.2 million.

Charles Spencer paid for the private family internment service and the building of a memorial. The internment service was attended by family, her son's and the king. Estimated cost several hundred thousand pounds.
The Spencers paid for the construction, landscaping and security measures around Diana's grave including a temporary bridge for pallbearers. Estimated cost estimated several million.

The royal family paid for their own wreaths, their own staff costs.

so I’m afraid you are the one who has to prove their claims….surely someone familiar with law would be aware of that!

There was an inquest and the fact Diana's face has only a few minor cuts was made public. The damage was internal.

First responders confirmed Diana's face was okay after the crash. This doctor thought she would live because he was unable at that point to see the internal trauma.

The question has to be then why didn’t Charles Spencer advocate, or in fact demand that his mother be allowed to view his sister’s body?

I have no idea why the king refused to let Diana's mother see her daughter's body. Pettiness? Meanness? No idea.

They take sides with whoever gives them the clicks. They've been critical of KC and Camilla enough. Plus they get stories from the Sussexes.
They don't care.

Does nobody realise how embalming alters a person’s physical appearance? , I don’t wish to go into details because it is not pleasant and would upset people!

It's horrible. I very much regret seeing my parents like this.

Maybe he didn't? So many lies have been told. It's difficult to work out the truth.

Does nobody realise millions of us have seen our families and friends bodies after being embalmed? My mother looked healthier than she did before she died. They made a good job of her.

The issue with viewing is if it takes place several weeks after embalming or if a poor job has been done. Diana was buried five 24 hour days after her body was flown back. Her mother could have viewed her daughter's body 48 hours after her death.

And I assume Diana's body would have been properly embalmed, rather than a sub standard job done.

Yes it is normally. It was a masterstroke of Charles Spencer selling the serialisation rights to the DM.
The DM normally takes the royals side to ensure continued access to stories. But the viewing figures it will get from serialising this book trumps that pact with the royals.
A very smart move.
