Was King Charles wrong to take a rose from Charles Spencer's bouquet?

Charles Spencer says as Diana's coffin was lowered into the ground, several people there dropped flowers on the coffin. King Charles took a rose from Charles Spencers bouquet and dropped it on Diana's coffin.

This struck me as it shows a very casual disregard for other people's feelings. This was Charles Spencers flowers, but without a thought, king Charles took mine of the flowers. And remember relationships were extremely strained between the two men.

Sometimes I think the smallest incidents like this can reveal someone's true character. It's like someone being rude to a waiter. The king just acts like no one else matters except what he wants.

The royals wanted Diana's funeral to be a private one and said so publicly. It was the public reaction that changed that. Diana's funeral was not a state funeral.

The Spencers wanted the public funeral. But Diana's mother wanted to see Diana's body and the king refused permission for this. Permission he had no legal rights to give or deny.

You do know a mother privately viewing her daughter's body is very different from an open coffin at a funeral? I am not sure why you are muddling the two.

Edited

What a load of old shite - it was KC3 who pushed for a big funeral with full honours. The Spencers wanted a small one.

I’ve just seen an American interview with Larry King where Charles Spencer said it had all been cordial complimenting Charles I guess there is no money thirty years later in that story 🤔

No thanks!

chirrupybird · Today 12:24

I assume there were many bouquets of flowers there, Charles may have though it was his one. I don't think it is the first thing you would be thinking about when saying your final goodbyes to the mother of your children. Oh am I sure I took the flower from the right bouquet I must check, oh dear that one's from the Spencer's where did they put mine......

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · Today 12:26

If only Meghan had been about she could have calligraphied a ‘hands off’ sign for Charles Spencer’s bouquet.

But I’m sure it you asked Harry, he’ll tell you Meghan was there and made a beautiful sign but William rippled it up and Catherine threw it in the bin and that’s his memory and that’s good enough for him.

You’re the one making the claim, you could at least provide a link to one of these sources. Unless it’s a reddit forum like your thread about William and Catherine taking a photo with a member of the public?

I’ve googled and not found anything other than gossip on forums. All I can find is that Frances expressed upset that she hadn’t been asked to accompany Charles and Diana’s sisters to Paris to oversee repatriation of the body. That’s not the same thing. Do you have anything concrete that comes from a credible source?

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 12:30

According to the Earl, Buckingham Palace and Charles's office completely took over the funeral arrangements. He noted that the Spencer family was simply expected to "fall into line," writing that in the eyes of the Palace, "Diana remained theirs... even in death"

I do. I genuinely wish I hadn't seen my Mum like that. I was young at the time, and it took me ages to get over it.
When I became responsible for the arrangements for two Aunts, I said no.

Can you link to one?

You’ve made it sound as though Frances asked Charles if she could see the body, Charles flatly refused, and that was terrible for Frances. If she’s spoken out about that it should be clear, no? Yet it’s not coming up on Google. All that’s coming up is that she expressed sorrow she didn’t get to see the body. Nothing about that being personally thwarted by Charles.

gishgalloping · Today 12:38

Here’s an interview where Diana’s mother says she didn’t get to see either of her deceased children. Crucially, however, she makes no mention of Charles. She says she wasn’t invited to go to Paris but, again, doesn’t mention Charles. Diana’s sisters did go to Paris with Charles so presumably they could have her invited her if they thought it was appropriate?

I was thinking - who on earth has started this incredibly petty thread when there are about 5 others running at the moment about Spencer’s allegations?

Then I noticed. 🤣🤣. The same OP who abandoned another thread when called out for deliberately twisting the truth to make a nasty point.

Pathetic.

Does nobody realise millions of us have seen our families and friends bodies after being embalmed? My mother looked healthier than she did before she died. They made a good job of her.

The issue with viewing is if it takes place several weeks after embalming or if a poor job has been done. Diana was buried five 24 hour days after her body was flown back. Her mother could have viewed her daughter's body 48 hours after her death.

And I assume Diana's body would have been properly embalmed, rather than a sub standard job done.

Really? , I happen to know and have watched the full process, I have personal experience of this process and if it would not upset most people here would give you a full rundown of what happens to the body!
but to keep it pc ….I will be vague….diana was in a car crash….she then had an autopsy ( I’m assuming you know what happens during this process) ….due to the heat ( which hastens decomposition) she was apparently embalmed….this involves removing all body fluids and replacing them …..the cavities will be padded because the body starts to collapse….the face also becomes sunken and needs padding….achieving a natural look and original shape is often difficult….any wounds stop bleeding but won’t heal ….the results can often end up looking like a waxwork.
you naturally assume the worst of Charles…because reasons ….however has it actually occurred to you that after Charles and Diana’s sister’s viewed her ( and contemporary accounts say they were all shaken afterwards) , they were actually doing a kindness? And that her mother could have actually insisted and her wishes would have been honoured!

I know what happens during embalming. Diana's mother was not asking to see the embalming process. She wanted to see her daughter's body.

I have personally viewed seven bodies of loved ones after embalming. They all looked the same as when alive or actually healthier than before death. My grandmother in particular looked like she looked before she became ill.

It's actually traditional in my birth family to have viewings of the deceased in a chapel in the hour before the funeral. A fact my husband finds strange. So I have perhaps seen more embalmed bodies of loved ones than most members of the public.

My family always use the co-op and they always embalm the bodies well. I am assuming Diana's embalming would have been done well.

None of these back up your narrative that Charles cruelly prevented Frances from seeing the body despite Frances wanting to.

The NYPost goes furthest of the three towards it, but references the late Queen, not Charles. So where are you getting Charles as the villain from? In any case, NYPost is generally not held to be a credible source, as it is sensationalist with form for publishing falsehoods.

First link says she wasn't asked...not that Charles forbade it ...
Second link again says she wasn't asked....

Third link is a weird article mentioning in passing that she "wasn't allowed" alongside something about her son John dying.

Seems like she just wasn't asked....
