Was King Charles wrong to take a rose from Charles Spencer's bouquet?

Charles Spencer says as Diana's coffin was lowered into the ground, several people there dropped flowers on the coffin. King Charles took a rose from Charles Spencers bouquet and dropped it on Diana's coffin.

This struck me as it shows a very casual disregard for other people's feelings. This was Charles Spencers flowers, but without a thought, king Charles took mine of the flowers. And remember relationships were extremely strained between the two men.

Sometimes I think the smallest incidents like this can reveal someone's true character. It's like someone being rude to a waiter. The king just acts like no one else matters except what he wants.

30 years later? Who cares?

I believe him on what Charles said.
I also believe Charles took a rose.
But cannot get upset over the latter.
It's actually quite nice.
It does show his entitlement, mind.
All the royalists and BP defenders on these threads though, won't hear a word against Charlie boy. When he was a crap husband and not a great dad.

Harry is definitely a Spencer. I remember all the rubbish about James Hewitt being his father but all Diana’s siblings are redheads. And they do seem a damaged and petty lot.

I wonder why this non event has never been mentioned before? I mean, if it did happen then surely Harry would have written all about it in one of his sleazy books?

I can understand Charles being at his ex-wife’s funeral but I’m not sure he should’ve been at her private burial at all, let alone centre stage and throwing a rose on her coffin.

I don't see it as disrespectful. I wouldn't care if someone did this at my loved ones funeral. The flowers are for my deceased loved one after all. I don't see a difference in having a flower thrown onto the coffin, or placed on the graveside to die

Would have been more disrespectful if, in the middle of the vicars speech, KC had nudged CS and asked him for a flower to throw on the coffin in one of those not so quiet whispers people try to do.

He was there with his children. They needed him

If this is the level of pettiness in the book and the most interesting accusations I can't imagine the sales will be high.

I imagine he was there to support William and Harry.

Genuinely pathetic to hold a grudge over this. Charles flew to Paris with Diana's sisters, identified her body, insisted that she be given a state funeral and Charles Spencer is moaning over a single flower? Ridiculous.

The monarchy should have been dismantled hundreds of years ago. Are they still valuable for tourism purposes and that why we're keeping them? I think we should open up land from the royal estate for extensive building. It's not right that one family should retain so much land and wealth and pay no tax, while our land for building is in such short supply and little estates with no amenities are being squeezed into the outskirts of towns. We should be building many new towns.

I agree with this...KC had a lot of involvement in the arrangements, for someone he had been separated from for 5 years.

Yes, they had children together but this was still his ex. I'm not surprised he didn't get absolutely everything perfect from everyone's point of view

I thought the book was about Diana. I haven't seen anything about Diana in any of these extracts, just King Charles.

Maybe he didn't realise there would be flowers thrown on the coffin, I can't imagine that's a common royal family thing. So he just lifted a nearby flower so he would have something to throw. Pulling one out of someone else's wreath isn't great look though.

But over-thinking a split second interaction in a moment of high emotion and grief doesn't really tell us anything worthwhile imo

Whatever anyone’s opinions, it’s clear that Charles Spencer has played a blinder with this memoir. It’s been all over the newspapers, the TV, social media, hundreds of posts on here, published globally…My book club has chosen it as our next read 😂.

If he wrote it to make lots of money, he’s certainly going to do that. Good luck to him, I say.

Just like with Spare though, I feel like the most sensational bits have already been published as headlines in the newspaper...I wouldn't feel the need to spend money on it now, as its probably quite dull now you know the main scandals!
